Feral Druid Tanks

There are going to be many Feral Druid Tanks in Classic tanking all raid tiers.

Good news for players who want to be Feral Tanks.

haha, nope.

Giant sack of hitpoints, that presses 2 buttons. Dungeons sure, raiding no. Warriors will dominate as they did before. You may see a really talented Feral Off Tank once in awhile, but no.

I feel like I’ve been here before…

well, I fully plan on being a Feral Druid who will be both PVP’d and also plan on raiding with my guild in PVE, once I find a guild with people who I like. I enjoy the challenge of being the underdog and fully intend on doing my best to be one of the best Feral Bearcats (as opposed to Catbears) on my server.

That all said, I do also plan to have a warrior alt that will eventually become a main tank and once that happens, my druid will probably mostly be for PVP.

I used to stealth into Stormwind or Ironforge just to sneak around in dark corners where I’d gank unsuspecting pvp flagged victims before disappearing again and moving to a new vantage point where I could watch people running around trying to find that pesky druid that just ganked them.

I think you could get one per raid, yeah. That’s about it though. They can tank some bosses in raids… it was done in Vanilla, so I’ll give a pass to the private server people who managed, since they could do it way back when, not a MT though.

Druids are handy offtanks, but bring your DPS and healing sets with you, because your role will constantly change from boss to boss. Generally you will DPS most trash, heal on most boss encounters, you’ll off tank adds on bosses like major domo. On Patchwerk due to massive armor and HP you may get used as a “Hateful Strike Sponge”. A well geared Druid tank can reach up to around 14k armor and 7k health unbuffed (AQ40 gear, enchants) and can buff a bit higher with consumables and raid buffs.

So yeah, a Druid tank is useful, i would be shocked to see more than 1 in a raid. You also have to consider it will be unlikely early on. Some of your pre-raid bis is in PvP items which were better on stat allocation that most other leather (Druid tank wise). The blue gear is great, and the epic gear r13 will set you up till AQ40 items. The trick is getting the gear though…

Other than a staff, you’ll find little to no upgrades in Naxx. You’re basically running for maybe 3 items and to support your guildies.

Back in naxx my guild used a bear offtank for patchwerk, he was dodging hateful stike frequently enough our other offtank was never getting hit with hateful strike

I think it depends a bit on pummelers being “fixed” or not. They’ll likely be viable in most scenarios but not ideal. It’d be well worth getting a decent healing set too…

Yeah, I mentioned that in my post. Bear tanks are good hateful strike sponges. They can get away with absorbing it better too, due to the high buffed armor and HP that bears can amass.

How many MCPs you gonna farm per raid?

they can be used as an offtank or as a dungeon tank if you trust your group to only hit the mob your hitting, other wise nope.

Druids can tank about 3 mobs efficiently as long as there’s a kill order. If someone is spamming DPS on mob 3 instead of 1, the problem isn’t the Druid.

Druid OTs, love them.

Definitely! Druids bring a ton of value to a raid. They are the best off tank, make great big damage sponges, clean up messes before healers get eaten, and can always throw on a gear swap and spam rejuv!

Love your friendly neighborhood bear tank!

Bring that kind of attitude, and you’ll easily find a spot in my raid

Many? Nah. Some? Yes. Guilds that are smart will have one. One bear tank is good.
