I am sure there will be some “get gud” replies but I’ve been playing since 2007 and have played Feral before. I don’t remember it ever being so hard to survive. I’m dying at 49-50 in Ardenweald, a lot. It was also pretty bad and 40-50 BFA. It got a little easier with level 50 talents but not a whole lot better. It’s the only class I have had this issue with. Is this a common experience?
Threads of fate? are you only pulling 1 group at a time? what ilvl are you at 50?
Fate. Pulling one group. Two mobs in the group is fine. Three is death. ILevel was like 60 at 49, 65 at 50. But all my leveling toons were like that at first and this class is the only one with issues.
Try guardian talent. its actually meta for pvp these days, off spec talent works there. Should work in pve too.
gonna assume not a necrolord. That green bubble helps a fair bit.
I also didn’t like kitty druid till I lego’d the convoke for a fae druid. 1min cd made it feel much better. other druid is necro. Not saying run these if not them but there are reasons they are meta.
I went Necrolord for the bubble and it helped some but not enough to make it as easy as the other classes. Oh well.
I can’t speak for all these other alts of yours, but suffice to say, it isn’t relative to getting feral dead a lot.
Catch-up gear at the end of BfA was ilvl 100… even some crafted greens are an improvement.
I personally don’t understand taking balance as your finity choice… it seems a push to both melee and range, if your playing the stealthy cat, when are you ever at range.
If I was you, I’d cheese… take guardian with feral as your finity… override your gear preference to feral… more crit, less vers… move in feral, start fights in feral, and if the oh mercy me need arises shift into bear…
At least until you have gear to support feral… it’s almost always a gear dependent spec.
They locked the down a bit.
you can wear like 1 maybe 2 crafter at 50 lol. add 1 piece every 2 levels that I recall.
I did enough plate chars 50 to 60 recently I just upgraded looms to skip this bit. case of one fresh 50 (no bfa time so that crap 50 max) I just trudged through the 50 to hit 51 and it turns on.
I am not really sure why it needs that 51 either.
After every 5 point finisher you can press regrowth and it be instant with no cost. Could help out a lot. Also could just bear until you have some loot, i did that with my dk until i could get some 100 iLevel stuff.
Make sure to use Regrowth procs when you get them, as well as Frenzied Regeneration in Bear Form. Barkskin is a fair cooldown on a 1 minute timer. If you need to wait a few seconds to make sure cooldowns will be available for you then wait for a few seconds - you can go into fights with mobs in open world feeling a little more confident that way.
After inspecting your druid I can tell it’s not you doing anything wrong; it’s a simple matter of just low ilvl gear. You’ll get the gear in no time while questing. Perhaps take it a little slower with pulling mobs (don’t bite more than you can chew rn) until the gear picks up is my personal advice.
Turn on Warmode, Leader of the Pack is a big safety net and so is Strength of the Wild.
Survivabilty I’ve found to be quite high. Biggest problem is sustained AoE but probably not at issue within casual level content. I have regrow binded to a quick key because of the amount of procs you get on it.
Guardian is the spec for world content.
65 iLvl is really low for 50.
Think most of my toons came in at 120+
BfA quest gear at level 50 is ilvl 57. That’s what newly leveled characters have access to. And BfA world quests don’t give upgrades to characters with such low ilvls.
120 is BfA heroic+ gear. The only option is to buy crafted gear on the AH, which will get a player to ilvl 85. If that gear is available at all. On some realms there is none, on others it is outrageously overpriced.
If you started at the beginning of SL when it first came out, then yeah, all the toons were 100+. If you are leveling a new toon now, when you hit level 48 and start SL, if your iLevel is higher than 55, you’re hacking something.
Anyway: Things improved quickly once I got to level 51 and now it’s very survivable. The Regrowth proc starts hitting and I haven’t died in a while.
I’m not gonna say ‘get good’, your I level is a thing in Shadowlands.
Not saying it should be, but it is.
I find that feral druids can be really difficult to kill if they want to be. In fact I only really play resto on my druid but whenever I think about how much more survivability my resto druid (with or without guardian affinity) has than my mistweaver it makes me want to unsubscribe
^
This is why feral druid’s survivability is really great in my eyes.
Yes, it’s very bad for preditors to survive. It is now based on convent and gear focus. I found out that the best combo for me is focusing on high crits/versatility and blue babies. That or go bear or healing.
#showtooltip Regrowth

You are using this macro or something similar, right? If you’re not, it basically lets you cast regrowth only while Predatory Swiftness is up and prevents you from shifting out of cat form when it isn’t active. Make a habit of using it after every finishing move even if you don’t need the heal. Of course go with Restoration Affinity when solo so you can Wild Growth, Regrowth, Rejuv and Swiftmend when in a jam or pickle, hmm jam on pickles.
I been using this since it was healing touch and had an alternate version that healed the tank back when we had Dream of Cenarius talent that healed you as well as your target and 20% extra on top. I miss that talent.
