Feral Druid 11.1 Feedback and Retrospective

Blizzard we still exist you seem to have forgot.

Meanwhile I’m sitting here thinking this is the best design of Feral since I started playing in WoD.

Feral is really fun but by design it doesn’t do relevant damage. It can’t do burst cleave so it’s never going to be great in raid as all we can do is sit on the boss and do ST. It’s fine in keys but boomkin exists so we’re realistically never going to have a meta slot.

The damage is relevant

Its not designed to. There’s specs designed specifically for that. Feral is decent sustained AoE with a heavy focus on funneling to priority targets. 4pc kinda emphasizes that

Lean into your strengths. And yes yes other specs can do it better blah blah blah. Theres 20sumthin dps specs and only a handful of niche encounter types. Not everyone can be #1 at something.

If you’re worried about meta slots, re-roll. A very large portion of the player base does it on a very regular schedule

I honestly can’t say that’s a problem I’ve had. Granted my guild is a casual AOTC guild, but I’m one of the top damage players in my raid group. If I PuG a night due to missing a guild raid night, same story. I’m always near the top of the list.

Obviously I’d never turn down buffs, but if the problem is just tuning then I don’t think it needs something as melodramatic as what this thread implies. Feral is a fine class and tuning fluctuates from patch to patch. I won’t raise a stink over that unless it’s a truly egregious example. And this season is not an egregious example.

As it pertains to mythic raid it’s a pretty egregious example, if you look at WCL feral is near the bottom of every boss.

You should probably understand what it is youre trying to reference before referencing it

You should probably go outside with your amount of time spent of the forums I’m genuinely worried about you.

:man_shrugging: If Feral needs tuning, it’ll be tuned. Selfish as it may be, I don’t care very much about tuning in content I don’t do. Tuning is a fickle beast so if I got upset enough to make a thread every time I was dissatisfied with I’d be making a new thread every other week.

Right, my point is I don’t believe this is a tuning issue. Sustained ST is not a relevant damage profile for raiding an overwhelming majority of the time so when that’s our strength it becomes difficult to reason why you’d take a feral druid as your MOTW slot in a raid comp.

Are we a sustained damage spec though? I mean, any moreso than any other spec? There’s a fairly dramatic burst in our damage every two minutes when Berserk and Convoke happen. It’s not like Feral is a spec without burst. If you want it to burst harder then I’d suggest that is indeed a tuning issue on the part of Berserk or one of its associated talents.

I wouldn’t call it dramatic, we pale in comparison to actual burst classes like unholy, dev evoker, etc. Both of those classes who’s burst CDs for single target also do tons of relevant cleave/AOE while ours are really only useful for single target. Our AOE requires stacked targets that live for a long time - a niche/profile that doesn’t exist and isn’t relevant in any form of content

So your opinion is having no opinion thanks for contributing king

No. My opinion is that this is the best designed version of Feral since I starting playing in WoD and if the concern is just one of tuning that it doesn’t merit the hullabaloo of a thread like this.

I agree the design feels very good is it perfect? No, tuning is valid criticism of the spec just because it doesn’t affect you doesn’t mean its not affecting other peoples experiences, If you raid in a mythic hall of fame guild where everyone is a top performer its hard to justify your place in the raid team if your spec has certain shortcomings that means it does less damage than someone else who can perform at similar levels on a better tuned spec, you will get replaced for the sake of the raid, That is just how it is how it will always be, so yes people are affected by ferals tuning despite what grizzle says, he thinks that all change is bad for whatever reason. So voicing an opinion on thinking the tuning is bad shouldn’t be a crazy take.

You’re right of course, and like I said I won’t turn down buffs if Blizz is in a mood to give them. I won’t lie and say I care when I don’t. I mostly only made that post because I was already here and involved with the conversation.

The part of the conversation where I have a stronger opinion is the part about our damage profile. I don’t think that it’s bad. Despite what it may seem, I’m not against change, but I am resistant to it. I’m always skeptical of calls to change especially when they use justification that runs counter to my personal experience. I’m not trying to stop the discussion, but to draw out more nuanced reasoning.

I’ve had my mind changed on these forums before. But snark tends not to do it. Grizzle is frequently churlish, but on the substance I tend to agree with him more often than I don’t.

Stacked targets, yes.
Live a long time, no.

Our AoE isnt coming from mass Rips (although the background damage does help). Our AoE comes from the cleave from our bites and the talents associated with it.

More targets, more bites, more AoE

Lol ive advocated for Feral changes many a times. My only pushback is the whole “feral is bad because we’re not meta”.

If this is the case, then youd better start replacing everyone in your guild who routinely outperform. And that happens to be over half the DPS in your guild (and every decent Ferals guild by extension)

Its really strange to see people talk about how bad Feral is, and how theyre a liability, while theyre averaging the top 25% in their guild, yet no one wants to talk about the liability that is their under performing teammates.

Feral bad. Me feral. Me #3 on 99% of pulls. Ele shaman good. Ele shaman consistently 40% parse.

The reality of the matter is not everyone plays at the same skill level. Not even in HoFs. A well played Feral is an assest to their raid team. Youre better off improving under performers than replacing a good performing Feral because someone doesnt understand how to interpret a rankings list off of WCL

This is the key takeaway. Your group isn’t bringing the average amalgamation of all things Feral, they’re bringing Reshyk. Or they’re bringing Grizzle. Or Catsavage.

A good player is worth bringing - even to a mythic raid - no matter what class they play.
