Feral + Convoke question

Convoke has a chance to use Tigers Fury, and my question is this: if it’s off of cool down and available, will it put it on its 30 second recharge timer?

I know i could check this out myself in a few hours but I’m at work with a couple hours to kill and I’m bored and curious.

I’ve always used TF prior to Convoke so that it benefits from 15% damage throughout its channel, but if it’ll cast it in the channel, and not put on it on CD you could in all reality have TF up for 45 seconds out of 60 following a convoke, essentially gaining a free TF (and since Convoke fills up your energy bar more or less, we’ll count that towards one of the free TF refill perks)

I will have to try it out in game to be 100% sure, but I dont believe it incurs the cd when convoke uses it.

I normally open and have berserk and TF rolling, then use convoke in the last 4 or so seconds of zerk.

Normally at the end of covoke I’m sitting on a fresh TF buff and sometimes berserk as well, which gives that extra time you’re asking about.

Kinda how I do mine, but I fire mine off towards the beginning.

Get Bloodtalons going, drop a Rip, TF + Berserk into a Convoke.

No

Booya! Thank you!

same applies to FullMoon or feral frenzy.

yeah it doesn’t use any of your cooldowns, mana, rage, or energy.
You do gain the benefits of most of the abilities though.

Example - Using abilities will still generate combo points or rage, proc your talents, etc.

All in all it’s pretty great.

Tical beat me to it. Was gonna say it’s like feral frenzy. It’s all 100% free stuff.

So Griz has the right idea, yeah? We TF before the Convoke?

Ok, that’s amazing.

Not entirely. Not any more at least. Convoke can/will cast TF

So you can TF - wait 15 seconds for TF to fall off, Convoke (get a free TF), and at the end of the second TF, the 30 recharge time from the first TF has now reset, so you can TF again for a solid (mostly), 45 second TF buff.

TF + Berserk - Convoke last 4-5 seconds of Berserk (same time TF falls off), get free TF, recast TF

I should include that I run pred.
So normally in that cycle, at least one target has died and gives TF a reset.
But the end of convoke on average leaves me with 75% or so of the TF it used to do with as I please. Give or take a bit for at what point convoke uses TF.

If I am going into a longer single target fight (m+ boss etc) I space out my usage of zerk, tf, and convoke.

I try to go in with 4-5 cp, stealth rake, rip, shred to 5cp, zerk, bite, tf, shred, bite, shred, bite etc… use the last 5cp in zerk to give a full fresh rip, convoke and pray to rngesus for bites, then maintain rip and rake until I can bite freely or TF is back up.

Using Apex pred procs in there to smooth out energy loss of course.

Might not be the best mathematically, but I haven’t been left behind on damage with it.

I think it’s a good idea. Convoke has lot of front-loaded damage and tigers fury helps make it better.

I believe Convoke attempts to apply buffs/debuff that doesn’t exist. Try applying all bleeds and use tigers fury (and maybe berserk if you want convoke’s shreds to hit hard).

The more bites Convoke gets, the better.

This. This is why you don’t want to cast TF before Convoke. It’ll do it for you and the effect will cover, I’d say, roughly 85% of the abilities used during its channel.

So you can start with TF + Berserk.
TF falls off with 5 seconds left on Berserk
Cast Convoke with 4-5 seconds left on Berserk and it refreshes TF for free
TF wears off just as your original TF cooldown finishes
Recast TF

45 seconds of continuous TF in 2 cool downs

I guess it would depend on your situation and talent setup. Longer fights would leave you energy starved for sure. But I understand you’re trying to maximize Tiger’s fury uptime by the overlapping/timing of certain abilites.

If a fight lasts only a few seconds, my thought process is I’d rather get a damaging ability instead of using one of the 16 random spells on Tiger’s fury.

My goal is to squeeze in as many bites into Convoke as possible, which usually averages to around 6-10k dps burst. Depending on RNG of course.

I dont see it as an issue because I’m running the Predator talent. I’ll have another tiger’s fury after they’re dead. Everything dies so fast with Convoke :D.

I totally agree with you for raid type fights though.

Damn. I can’t wait to try this in pvp.

Grizzle, question I have always had about Feral convoke. Should you convoke with combo points so you get a bite sooner or does it matter? I usually convoke with zero combo points but want to make sure I am not missing out on bites.

Thanks,

Convoke will refill your combo points from 0, 98% of the time. (I’ve had it only give me 4 before, but it’s so rare as to not be worth worrying about, especially because it will refill your energy if you use it when it will cast TF for you as well.)

So properly used, it refills CPs, Energy, and either leaves you with, or sets you up easily for, a BT proc.
