They are but from my experience guys who are better performing, are higher in the meta, know their class, high dps, they are super nice and helpful without being condescending. Guys who struggle are the ones who are going to puff out their chest and pretend they know what they are doing, will tell you how to play your class as a way to make up for their own poor performance. It’s an ego thing. I’ve never experienced this with other women players, this is exclusively a guy player thing.
In my raid team, there’s three women in the raid and we are top dps, there’s lot of talk about how we need to be ‘unseated’ and there’s just always that casual sexism that “oh no, the women can’t beat us, let’s try and out do them” it’s exhausting. It’s not malicious or anything, and I really enjoy playing and the friendships I’ve made with these guildmates, it’s just they may not even realize they are doing it at all.
Calling us “females” is just weird. I mean, think about how weird calling men “males” sounds. It’s the same thing. Just weird.
“female” and “male” are fine whenever they’re used as adjectives as in “female/male players”, “female/male blood elves”, but sound weird and somewhat degrading when used as nouns (except for maybe in the results of a scientific study)
On the matter of the post: haven’t really gotten any blatant harassment that I can ascribe to them knowing I’m a woman. The only thing I do ascribe to that sometimes is that many men seem to feel the need to prove they know my spec or class or talents or rotation or BiS everything and lecture me about it without me having asked. Only ascribe it to that because I haven’t really seen them do the same thing when the other person is a man as well. It’s not horrible, just annoying - but what can I do other than saying “I’m aware, thanks” whenever I get lectured.
PS: actually, there was one instance of blatant sexual harassment, but we kicked him.
yup.
My wife made the mistake of answering the “are you a real girl” question, lol.
I told her never admit it.
And yeah…it got creepy.
I had to have her ignore the two jokers before it got bad enough to maybe report them and get them banned.
yeah…well when a player innocently admits…'yeah, Im a girl" and two players who she was playing alongside just fine suddenly start offering her 50,000 gold to ‘perform’ certain unmentioned acts…yeah…creepy.
I agree that’s wrong and creepy. At the same time I have seen women in game act in a way to get that kind of reaction in a way. I’ve seen women overemphasize the fact they are female, I’ve seen women flirt with guys and then go surprised pikachu face when the guys flirted back or be offended and slander the guy when he didn’t flirt back (one of them started threatening the guy about telling people in real life lies about how he was into minors to destroy his life etc. It was pretty bad) . I like to try and look at all sides of it and my conclusion is pretty much always the same: Some people are horrible people and don’t know boundaries nor have they manners. And honestly, sometimes I think we just see more and hear more about creepy behavior from guys cause people talk about it more and because there’s still more male players in the game.
It’s definitely not a one-sided thing where only men do it or only women are victims of it.
You dont join pug discords when needed? For keys and raids etc…? Why are you blaming her for some creep acting like that? Jesus,do something about the obvious internal misogyny you have before you pass it on to your daughter.
Half of the people I play with are women. Not once have I ever heard any unsolicited comment of any sort.
You probably just playing with idiots. Don’t assume we are all idiots, just how I don’t assume you are all like to drive mini coopers.
On top of that, I’ve seen women specifically use their gender to their advantage. Not only players I have played with but also Almost. Every. Single. Female. Streamer. On. Twitch.
lol…now that sounds like it could be my ex wife…lol.
Theres a reason why shes EX and not CURRENT.
I dont make up excuses using one clowns ill behavior to justify anothers.
This crap doesnt belong in the work place…or anywhere that its not invited.
On your point, though…I can remember in high school one young woman in particular who kept asking me out. Well, she had a bad rep as it was for being a trouble maker. I tried to ignore her so she got every jock in school coming at me telling them Id called their girlfriends a certain word, lol.
I didnt know them or their GFs’
so yeah…females can be just as bad…but that doesnt excuse the males who do it.
It did change things a little bit when I went in vent back then, people would actually be nicer to me or people would yell at each other not to speak a certain way when I was there! I’ve had players give me free bags and stuff because quote “every girl needs a purse!”
But I think people were just being nice and I assume those players would react the same no matter if it was me or anybody else. I appreciate it lol.
No, of course it doesn’t excuse the bad behavior and actions of guys. I just don’t like how things like this are always turned into “women’s issues”. It’s the same in real life and it leads to lots of problems for men cause the fact they experience certain things isn’t even acknowledged by society and they don’t really learn that they can be abused and harassed and that it’s not okay and often don’t know who to turn to when something bad happens. I just want everyone to feel safe and seen, regardless of gender and sex.
Back when I first started there were rare occasions where guys got out of hand, but they were quickly shut down.
I’m not a naive kid anymore and I haven’t had any problems for a number of years. Not saying it’s anyone’s fault if they get harassed, but following a few simple rules will cut down the unwanted attention.
Be extremely private with your real self. Unless everyone on your Discord is a RL friend, don’t post pictures of yourself. It doesn’t matter if it’s with your husband or BF or your pets. Just don’t do it.
There’s literally no reason to add people in game that you don’t know IRL to your FB. You don’t need to be on their instagram and you don’t need to talk to them on zoom.
Unless you’re playing with RL friends, don’t give out your number or address. That shouldn’t even need to be said.
My dad once told me not to put anything on social media that I wouldn’t want plastered on billboards all over town. People are free and easy with social media and sometimes it’s necessary - but not in this game.
Excuse me, but what about the ORC’s experience in game?
Everyone’s like, “Oh, please don’t burn down our tree/give us an axe to the face!” Like, I’m an ORC… what else am I supposed to do? Fish gotta swim, bird’s gotta fly, Orc’s gotta smash, Elves gotta cry, amirite?
Seriously, asking me to not give you my axe edge first is LITERALLY racist.
