Fellow Classic rogues, don't shame me. Assist me. Talent Build

Right now, I am leveling combat swords. Easily the best and most efficient lving build. I know this. Here it comes… However, I absolutely love daggers. I understand it’s not as effective due to not being able to backstab consistently (and frontstabbing isn’t a thing) as the mob is always going to be facing you.

I know majority if not all of you will try to advise me to stay combat swords. However, I am bored of it and I am itching for daggers. Right now I am currently level 31. Could any experienced rogues out there think of the best build possible they are able to muster up for someone who is going to level daggers.

I am going to try out daggers. What are you guys able to come up within the framework of that spec. Thanks.

Do I go deep into Sub for Improved Ambush? Or just 5 into sub, Opportunity and rest into Assassination for Crit, Combo and Energy restoration talents?

What are your thoughts?

8 in Combat, 3 Imp Gouge, 2 into dodge, 3 Imp Backstab. 13 into Sub, 5 into backstab/ambush dmg, 5 into w/e else, 3 into Imp Ambush. The rest from here go into assassination, this will give enough points to get Seal Fate filled out at the end.

Most fights its open with Ambush, wait for ticks, gouge wait for ticks backstab, repeat till dead evisc at 5 combo points. Depending on crits they might be pretty much dead after the ambush/backstab so you could just evisc to finish them instead of repeating the gouge backstab.

It’ll be a lot slower if you go for a Backstab-based build (best to wait until 60, where it’s actually competitive with good daggers and better at the very top tier of content), as you’ll have to essentially CC every mob and wait for ticks rather than auto things to death. The only reason people leveled with it on private servers was frontstabbing worked.

It is marginally better in PvP at least.

I can relate. I always mained warrior, so whenever I rolled rogue I usually wanted to embrace the different aspects of the gameplay, even if it’s less efficient.

I feel you man. I’m doing the same thing and I hate combat swords. Sure… it works. But it’s boring and unsatisfying. I want some sweet, sweet backstab sound effects and burst dmg!

But me, personally, I think I’m going for the best of both worlds: Hemo at 30+. More fun than combat swords, more utility for leveling, less risky and unforgiving than Daggers. Also good in PvP. And you can use the same MH sword you were using leveling as Combat (assuming it’s any good).

At 32 you could pick up Master of Deception x5, Elusiveness x2, Camo x4, Ghostly Strike, initiative x3, imp sap x3, serrated blades x3, Hemo, and Prep, and then continue with dirty tricks before hopping in the assassination tree. You could have a hemo/cold blood build going in the 50s, which would be nice. Much easier to find good MH swords/maces than Daggers out there…

Wait til 40, there’s a really good dagger from RFK that will make it less awful.

I level as combat until 30, then go hemo subtle and start building the pvp build. Put some point in ghost strike and set up instead full camouflage and imp sap for some relieve in farming, but once I get 22 point in subtle (for hemo & prepa) will go deep in assa, for CB. At 52 you will have the combo.

Also you can use daggers or a heavy weapon.

I’ve leveled a couple rogues to 60 over the years with daggers. Take all the backstab/crit damage talents. Gouge and run around. It isn’t that much less efficient. It’s definitely more fun. If that’s what you enjoy, give it a try. I think the stumbling block is getting the good daggers to drop, as there are fewer guaranteed quest reward daggers.

Also not that it matters since bg’s aren’t out yet, but backstabbing the flag carrier in wsg never gets old.
