First off I am not a raider by any means anymore. I barely look at LFR if anything these days. Why? Well I’ll be perfectly honest with you. The maintenance required for me to raid at a level I’d be happy with is just too much. Daily/Weekly quests and world bosses, Food/Flasks/Enchants/etc… (whichever is your responsibility if not all), Covenant duties, other reps for crafting or memories etc…, Dungeons for the anima and memories and we haven’t even stepped into the raid yet.
I get it. Some of the players have a lot of time on their hands or at the least have people to play the game for them when they aren’t able, don’t bug me about the ToS I know it’s against them and yet people do it so shhhhhhhhh…
Where does that leave those who can only dedicate 3-4 hours 3-4 days a week? Well supplying the odds and sods for those in the guild who CAN play more. Maybe working the auction house to buy those purples etc…
I wanted to take my time with this XPac. I want to explore the zones, take in the stories, pick up some mounts/pets and then maybe get back into raiding a bit later. But I can’t do that. Soul Ash, Reps, Memories, Legendary pieces, etc… simply force us to rush through the content and as a result forces the Devs to push content that isn’t ready because the “new” stuff is already stale in a month or two.
Yes, I’m whining. But that’s the player base gaming companies have made us. Congrats.
edit: I didn’t mention Torghast on purpose. I’m on the fence with it. I’d like it to be a solo raid content myself and leave the group raids in the actual raids lol. Meh… whatever
edit2: Just to clarify “Busy work” is a term we use in the workplace to describe work that isn’t crucial but still needs to get done. It’s usually the work given to people with less training or experience at the time. Like; “The systems have crashed. Why don’t you go refill the water cooler while we wait for them to reset?”. Some staff tend to make “busy work” their main job. Get out of the copy room already!
Unless you’re doing mythic raiding, the scenario you describe is perfectly feasible. My guild still hasn’t finished normal (just Denathrius left) but has started getting into heroic. 3-4 hours 3-4 days a week is pretty much my schedule - I normally end up doing Torghast, a few mythics, and whatever else I feel like. I haven’t really touched the rep stuff or daily quests. I managed to level enchanting and tailoring from 0 - it took me a few weeks to do it the ‘manual’ way compared to some guildies who had 100k+ gold to throw at it, but I got there.
You really don’t have to bother with a lot of shadowlands content if you don’t want to.
What daily? As far as I know the only power related quest is the weekly renown.
Food, flask and enchants only make a difference if you are dying because of dps or healing checks. Most likelly you are dying for failing mechanics, so you should focus on that. If you get denied to groups for not using those this is a problem of player perception, not a problem with the system itself.
which can be ignored completely.
why are you farming anima in dungeons ?
that need to be obtained only once and have a high drop chance.
I’m still working on the chanting. Stuck without a way to generate purples to DE
But you said it there “I haven’t really touched the rep stuff or daily quests”. You have your schedule full with what you are doing. Now tack on rep and daily quests. Maybe finishing all the quest chains in each zone. Camping mount/pet drops, because they already nerfed one drop rate if I recall.
Not to mention I also play Hearthstone, have a family to look after, TV shows that I’d rather watch than listen to in the background… have I mentioned a job yet? Seems like WoW is getting close to taking over that spot lol. Maybe I should invest in a decent streaming setup and let people watch me play? No no no… nope. lol
Glad you are enjoying it so far. I’ve said it before. I like the xpac. I just feel rushed and that’s not good game design in a MMO.
Exactly. So I would like to take my time in the zones and do the “optional” content while it’s still relevant and raid a month or so down the road. Like I said above though, I feel very rushed to complete things that I was hoping to do later or when I felt ready vs when they made me ready.
Glad you are enjoying things.
You may have misread so I’ll rephrase. I like the game. I like the xpac. I just think there is too much shoved in my face at once. Like setting a table with the salad, appetizers, entre and dessert in front of you. OF COURSE YOU START WITH DESSERT! lol. If I so chose to I could more than dedicate myself to raiding and be a great asset to the team, I’m sure. The fact that we are already at the point where that is the average expectation of a casual player? That part is where it gets fuzzy.
If you aren’t using flasks, pots, food and such then you are making your life that much harder. Like not choosing any of the powers in Torghast just “because I can”. Sure but why? lol You like killing things slower? Faster battles, less healing, more DPS. Seems odd. But okay!
Yes, its a lot of things that you can completely ignore. Maybe you don’t realize they are optional, but I’m here to tell that they are.
Not really, every single one of my wipes in the expansion so far were due to mechanical failures. While I use flask, food and enchants, it is only for the social aspect of them, not because I think they will help me kill anything.
Try to do a sim and see how much of your damage comes from these consumables.
This. Rep doesn’t mean much this xpac, mostly about the Renown which you can only get weekly anyway. Callings are just gold and sometimes gear and conduits. Gear from these really are not an upgrade though and conduits are lackluster
I’m not enjoying it.
But really that’s on you for wanting to do ‘optional’ content and taking your time. There is always just doing LFR. People prioritize what they enjoy and frankly I’ve rarely seen anyone doing 100% of the content and being happy, MMO’s are done that you’ll never have everything. People usually have targeted goals… clearly ‘raiding’ isn’t one of it nor is m+ so what’s left is not actually a whole lot to be honest.
And yeah that bottle neck for enchanting hurts lol, especially when like on my servers, those enchants are going for like -2000% price with no takers even lol
