I don’t know about you guys but I think we are starting to feel the sting of a lower than usual player base. Not sure if it is just t he battle group I am in. Even the General discussion seems far less lively then it has in the last few months.
Recruitment has become quite the challenge. Filling in spots for M+ has not been as abundant. Queue times for LFR have jumped up to nearly an hour for dps. The general burn out really does seem to be there for a lot of the ones that have left the game.
With how the current systems. and no real news about the new systsms, I am getting far more concerned that 8.2 will even save this Xpac. And saving it is a very strong word for I do not believe that it will bring back the numbers and may be a good idea to start merging servers and battle groups even more.
All I am going to say is unless you do somethign amazing with the Heart of Azeroth and Azerite systems. The content is really not going to mean a whole lot if Blizzard is unable to get Artifact, Gear, and improve the mess all the classes are in. MOP and Legion need to be looked at from a class and systems perspective and ask yourself why they were more successful than WOD and BfA.
My realm (merged with 4 others btw) is completely dead. I have been feeling it for years. I took my main to sargeras and it was fun to be in a high pop again but I missed my old realm so I moved back.
Agree. So many guilds fell apart by November it was ridiculous. I have some alts in giant guilds (900 members) and maybe 5 actual players will be on at a time. I basically play this as a solo game at this point.
If you’re recruiting for raiding, it’s probably because the sheer amount of welfare gear this expansion + Mythic+ existing with no lockout + no tier sets makes raiding a really inefficient means of progressing your character right now.
Lots of people who normally pugged Mythic+ in Legion feel like the dungeons this expansion are designed to cater to the MDI and therefore don’t enjoy them as much, or find them too hard or frustrating. AFAIK M+ participation has been down for most of the expansion vs Legion.
It’s the most efficient means of gearing for people who would otherwise be raiding, but the typical pugs are probably a bit more strained than last xpack.
Because there’s no reason to run LFR. It’s rewards are matched by incursions and exceeded by Emissary Quests and a number of other freebies every week.
FWIW I agree with you, but not for your realm. AFAIK your realm is still pretty healthy. The low-medium pop realms need help though. Even the ones that were already “merged” never got up to a high enough population. They need to scrap the idea of preserving time zones and just push more of those realms together. If the collective isn’t typically high pop, at least during prime time, then they haven’t merged enough.
The only solution, which isn’t a positive solution, is to go Horde. It seems that most players who take the game even slightly serious have migrated over where the rest of the population of like-minded players are.
“The Horde is waiting on you”
edit - but yeah, the numbers are for sure down crazy low.
It’s great though for those players still playing who buy transmogs on auction.
I auction on ~20 realms and prices on all of them have dropped through the floor. I’m picking up items I could never afford before and which no amount of farming succeeded in getting for just a few gold instead of tens of thousands.
Of course no-one is seeing my smart new outfits because the cities are empty (which I’m sure can be blamed onto Flying, LFR or Catoring to Casuals,) but you can’t have everything.
I do not have much more to say with your other responses because I can agree with where you are going with it. This point however I both agree and disagree. M+ always in Legion gave gear that was really good for raiding. Having multiple spots for to gear up your toon in terms of progression is not a bad thing. True having too many ways can detrimential. Gear has mattered less and less to me over the years and I raid at heroic level largely for the fun of having your friends do challenging content with you. Something that a guild can achieve together.
It makes me wonder if that is a lost thing within WoW. The desire to make friends to do challenging content with at our pace that gives meaningful rewards.
I’m not sure I’m feeling a sting-- But feeling like there is something amiss. Just about everyone I play with has either left or barely logs in. That includes me.
With everything queue-able with the group finder there isn’t a huge reason to worry about making buddies anymore - just jump into some pug raids or keys.
The game has been directed more and more at solo play, it’s not about looking out for what’s best for the group/guild anymore, it’s about me, me, me.
Makes me feel old when I say this. I do love the QOL changes within the game in content… but i really do miss the old community within wow. There was a time that making friends and having a solid friends list was a thing.
I don’t play for socializing with other people, I play to have fun. Queue times and group finders are of zero concern to me. Time gates, layered RNG, and lack of RPG elements are the reasons the game is losing people, in my opinion.
Right?! RIGHT!!! I am so getting sick of the Loot box mentality. I have not played a single game that has that as a core thing for very l ong. Overwatch? sure played it for little while but didnt see the appeal all that much. that is the only example in my coffee less mind atm.
i realized it was real bad the other day when i saw for random heroic dungeon, DPS had a satchel, and so i qued for it, then gave up after 20 minutes with no sign of a group forming, and the avg wait time kept going up…
I think that’s lost in WoW. When you can do almost everything as a solo player with LFG the only thing left are the hardcore raiders and mythic+ groups. Blizzard killed the middle class guild raiding groups with LFG!
That’s because most of the rational and reasonable people have been driven off by the unending parade of: “blizzard is disgusting, insert reason”, “blizzard change this/give me this or else I’m leaving.”, “Wow is dead because, insert reason.”, “I’m leaving wow because, insert 20k word dissertation on why.” threads.
