So feeling a little defeated after a death. I got a shaman all the way to level 20. (Doesn’t seem high, but took me a few days to get there.) I died because i was too impatient to wait a few more levels to get my healing totem. The darn burlogs (sp) got me. It was my own mistake and i realize that. I just felt so defeated afterwards and logged for the night.
It’s a new day and after work I plan to start another shaman. I do have a question. How much does armor rating matter?
I’ve been skipping cloth gear with better stats because i like the armor rating from leather gear. So, does armor really make a big difference in terms of survivability?
you should choose cloth with better stats over leather, in terms of ehp, u aren’t gaining much from leather’s pure armor value, especially at low levels where the most dangerous mobs tend to be mobs that cast which ignores armor anyway
It really depends on the amount of armor vs stats, as example don’t give up leather for one point of stamina, but if its 5 points go for it. Also personally for HC the most important stat is stamina, then go from there. I tend to spec heavily defensive in HC though, as example my warrior is leveling as prot, and not for grouping. As for the totem of healing, its not great, so don’t count on it being a game changer in most cases.
For a shaman, obviously everyone will play differently, personally I strongly recommend going with a defensive enhance build almost like you are going to tank, use a shield and the fastest one hand dagger possible, then either use flametoungue or rockbiter.
Spec wise, again this is a conservative spec, I would go 21 points in enhance to get parry though do make sure you have 5 points in flurry and spend heavy in defense abilities, then go 21 points in resto with key abilities being healing focus so you never get interrupted when healing yourself, then natures swiftness which you then macro with your biggest healing wave, for a huge instant heal, as long as your not moving.

Mouse over the armor number, on your inventory. It’ll show you the percent of physical damage it reduces. You can look at the number before and after you equip a piece of gear, to see exactly how much it’ll help you. Keep in mind armor does nothing vs magic dmg.
I would suggest playing mage.

Proud of you OP! Rule #3 Go Agane.
I’ve gotten to level 26 on war and died to that stupid quest in Stonetalon to protect the miner. Death is all part of the plan, just have to laugh and try again.
