Feedback/Suggestion: Roleplay Realms REBORN

Hey WoW Devs, Fellow Players and Community Managers,

I’ve been thinking a lot about how roleplaying in World of Warcraft could be one of the best experiences in roleplay gaming, and I’ve got an idea that could really shake things up for the WoW Community and the Roleplay community: Roleplay Realms REBORN—a limited-time mode with an emphases on roleplay, with some awesome new features that could make Azeroth feel even more alive.

Here’s the Vision

  1. Proximity Chat: Imagine walking through the crowded streets of Stormwind or Orgrimmar and actually hearing other players chatting around you. Maybe you overhear a secret meeting or catch someone telling a joke as you pass by. Proximity chat would make every in-game interaction feel more real and immersive, like you’re truly part of the world.

  2. Game Master Tools: Right now, roleplayers do an amazing job with what they have, but the current systems in place are archaic and largely “theater of the mind” based. What if we could spawn actors, props, and other cool elements to bring our stories to life? With GM tools, we could create epic scenes, run dynamic events, and build our own little worlds within Azeroth. It’s about giving the community the creative freedom we’ve always dreamed of. Systems where you can create little quests ( maybe reward scaling based on average difficulty of the actors utilized?)

  3. Playtime Rewards: And here’s a fun twist—what if you got rewards for spending time roleplaying with others? Think unique mounts, special titles, or rare transmog items. It’s a way to celebrate those who keep the roleplay community thriving and encourage more players to join in on the fun.

Why This Matters:

Roleplaying has always been a huge part gaming, and WoW Started with a vibrant RolePlay community, but it often feels like working within the limits of the game only serves to make RP in WoW clunky and slow. With WoW Roleplay Realms REBORN, we could create dedicated spaces where roleplay and creativity can really shine. This isn’t just about adding new features—it’s about making WoW an even richer experience for everyone who loves the lore, the stories, and the creativity that our community brings.

Why Now?

I think the gaming space and community at large has never been more receptive to Roleplay as a core tenant of a gaming experience. Look at how popular GTA RP and WILD RP is on twitch. Look at how well D&D RP game BG3 did. The popularity of TTRPG’s in general has been really high. Now is the time for Blizzard to execute on a Roleplay server

What could possibly go wrong?!

I do understand that proximity chat is the riskiest part of suggestions - How do you control and moderate a community that, at times, has been somewhat hateful in the chat solutions it already has? To be fully honest I am not sure on this part. I want to believe that people will not troll and be hateful but thats naive . So, i think have a sever punishment. keep voice recordings from gameplay and permaban a player for hateful conduct in proximity chat.

I’m hoping the WoW devs will consider this idea and see the potential it has to bring something really special to the game. And to my fellow players—if this sounds like something you’d love, let’s rally together and show our support. WoW Roleplay Realms REBORN could be the start of something amazing.

As someone who’s been roleplaying for the past ten years, I do enjoy some of these possibilities. Spawning actors would be great during events, though if they can’t even be bothered to add basic customizeable player housing, they probably wouldn’t bother trying to appease the minority of roleplayers on WOW.

Though, I think the next best thing would be for them to add more casual toys for us to put down, or more immersive character poses like in FFXIV. Leaning for example, which is already in game, carrying objects, torches, etc. A toy that lets us walk around while reading a book, though I /do/ think that’s a toy now. They’ve done pretty good at giving us tents, camp sites, seating, a desk, a painting easle.

In terms of making it an actual event? That’s probably best left to the community itself with events such as the Tournament of Ages. Unfortunately, we’re too small of a community for them to have a specific rewarded event like that since the mainstream folks are more narrowed down into PVP or PVE with strict gameplay loops.

You mean /say?

The only part I agree with is being able to make scenes. We’ve been asking for no mob world options like the one reservation in Valdrakken for awhile.

I’m not thrilled about this being and event but I like the idea.

What if instead there was a realm with no enemies so that people can RP and create scenes? You wouldn’t be able to create new character in this realm. Instead, it would work similar to beta access where you can copy a character to it. They could limit the number of characters a player could have to prevent overpopulation.

I’m not sure if they could do something like this but as a super casual RPer whom enjoys creating videos, I support your idea!

I mean a voice based proximity chat - Me and my friends played DMZ for a while and that was so much more fun and immersive thanks to proxy chat.

Ooh gotcha

I’ve always supported the idea of having a system where players could create their own “custom quests.” Like having a board of “player-made quests” in the town-centers.
(Obviously, following some rules to avoid weird people doing weirdo things)

I’m not sure what kind of rewards they would give, but it would be cool.

Odeargono. I do not voice my characters. And I play a male character in RP right now and I’m a woman.

I think it could just be a phase like Warmode. No angry mobs, just neutral ones. No loot drops from anything, no XP, etc. Remove NPCs from some places so we can fill areas with players instead.

  1. No to voice chat. It doesn’t really enhance RP and just opens up another avenue of annoyance. While I do engage in voice-acted RP with my D&D group, using proxy chat when there are 20~ people in one spot with people coming and going is chaos and not really that pleasant compared to small, 3-6 player discord calls.

  2. An interesting idea that I am sure some private servers already have implemented, yet of course anything created would have to be limited visibility to only one’s group in only certain situations like in the open world or explorer mode of an instance.

  3. No. Once a tangible reward (toy/mount/cosmetic/gold) is applied it becomes transactional and that kills RP.

No no no. Voice proximity chat? this will not be monitored and will break so many rules. The things children may hear in goldshire on moonguard may scar them
