Back in Cata-Wod you had to build Shadow Orbs from the begining of the fight. This limited your main burst to be sidelined until you properly get you Shadow Orbs up and going.
But if you look at Sunfury and what I proposed, you would start the battle with 3 orbs off the bat.
Then normal gameplay of dealing damage with your Mind Spells would generate more orbs.
If you look back at cata, it sucked fishing for orbs with spamming Mind Flay.
So I would propose that Everytime your Mind Spells deal damage, they grant you that Void Essence, then every 3 Void Essence would coalesce into a Void Orb. That would make it so 1 Mind Flay would generate a Void Orb while it would take multiple Mind Blasts to do it.
So what would happen is you get to use Entropic Rift right off the bat if you want to and 2 more times before using your Mind Spells to build more orbs. Of course this is why I would make Devouring Plague also trigger it because of the timer associated with Void Torrent.
I’m thinking of PvP and very much keeping that in mind when I’m bringing forth these ideas as that is always into consideration for me.
This means you can deal damage without worrying about your dots being dispelled nonstop as we are severely lacking dispel protection. Story can change if they fix that issue. But I’m not holding my breath at this point on that front.

Idk why mind spike lost the instant cast to begin with tbh. That was a huge L from me. I neve touched that ability before and even less after the change.
Tbh just make mind flay castable while moving at this point.
Arcane mages can arcane missle while moving =/.
Cata pvp is diff from today though.
If I arena, I can’t cast most of the time because I’m always targeted =/. So this just wont’ work at all if I ever do arena. this is why I don’t want to waste my VOID Torrent so carelessly just for this SPEC to work.
In Bgs I can cast more often unless they all run to me. but at least I can cast for once.
i honestly don’t worry bout dot dispelling. Most healers don’t bother to dispell my dots to begin with. the Fear is actually pretty oppressive, I’ve killed healers sometimes because of it. We too have a ton of cc to shut healers down. I’ve even soloed them before when they underestimated me.
We can always use stronger dispell protection but our dots don’t scare healers enough to force them to dispell like AFF warlock. At least form my experience using AFF vs Shadow.
And if they do. again it lines them up well for death.
Priest has always been the focused target. The only difference is that the word is out that priest are so defenseless due to not keeping up in the arms race of getting new tools and toys to use in combat.
Where as Psychic Scream was amazing in classic, especially on horde side when used on Alliance. But has since been near useless with how easy it breaks due to damage and so many ways to avoid it outright or making it negligible with so many counter tools.
But that is besides the point because be it how it is now or how I propose it to be, activating Entropic Rift is done instantly either way with no wait time. The primary issue with activating Entropic Rift in PvP is interrupt effects. But from what I heard so far, Entropic Rift occurs regardless if your Void Torrent is interrupted or not. It just happens when your Void Torrent ends. So at worst, you loose out on the damage from Void Torrent but your Entropic Rift still is able to be triggered and goes off without issue.
So if what we are really talking about is the spell to trigger Entropic Rift and it not being a big red flag in PvP to smack you and stop or prevent you from casting it, Its sad to say that we don’t really have a good suitable spell to works best for that as dots can get dispelled, channels can get interrupted, and nukes like Devouring Plague (requiring secondary resource) are not available on demand. Only thing left is your rotational spells but then that would cause you to either cast Entropic Rift at wrong times if it’s proc controlled or it would deal low damage and not be worth using at all if you casted it all the time with rotational spells.
This is why again, limiting the use of the activation of Entropic Rift via something like a Orb resource mechanic similar to Sunfury is the option I would explore since it works well with Sunfury and it worked well with Shadow in the past for basically the same thing… a nuke spell.
i don’t mind wasting a spell like mind flay to proc it.
We area always interrupting our flay cast to dodge spell locks and readjust position.
I just don’t want to waste a 2 talent ability that hits pretty darn hard to just proc the whole talent tree. its just not good. I could have saved it for a good opener without worrying about whether I use my new talent tree at all the whole fight lol.
Its not really the spell trigger itself, “entropic rift”, its the spell being used to trigger Entropic rift.
Everything else is fine for me for now.
Just change the spell being used to trigger it.
Placing the trigger to a rotational or filler spell like Mind Flay would work sure, but then it would not be on demand as it would be a proc.
I don’t think the entire keystone mechanic for Voidweaver being locked behind a random proc will go over well with the masses. Especially those that focus in PvE and let’s face it, PvE gets gameplay priority when it comes to gameplay loop.
It’s only PvP in regards to our utility that governs what we get that also affects PvE but more in a negative way of what we are not allowed to have because of it’s effect in PvP.
left side:
The rift creates nice snare on everyone. Which adds to our cc pressure.
some anti shield dmg or a little more instant cast
and flat dmg percent increase.

middle side:
I like void blast and its effect and it further makes mb hit a bit harder from the looks of it.
longer rift = more dmgg and cc
and void blast gives more insanity so more DPs
and the rift grows and does more dmg. – from what I’ve seen numbers wise, its pretty big. THe key factor here will be balance. Will it be a potato or will it still be strong by release.

again boring falt dmg but it sfine I guess.
if the pet thing is done right and the b ugs removed, I can see it forcing everyone to go pet build on shadow for PVP.
this is a win or loss depending if you don’t want to be a summoner :<. Again, shadow always trying to be so many things.
This one is kinda funny. Passively siphone hp from your allies to heal you or
you make Unholy Dks, aff warlocks, and other shadow priest do no dmg to you lol.
So you want spell warning and embrace the shadow for sure = 6% less dmg taking for magic over all and you make other shadow caster irrelevant. sweet. Fav one by far.
THE BIGGGGGGGGGGG ISSUE IS the first one.
making us get void torrent if we don’t want to.
Making us waste two talents.
Making us waste a spell to make the spec function instead of using it during kill moments.
Overall I don’t expect this mini trees to fix shadow in relation to PVP – I expect the reworks on the actual shadow tree itself to do so.
But I would ld like for them o CONSIDER pvp to a SMALL degree when thinking about the TRIGGER Spell at least
overall the mini tree is actually less problematic then the Main shadow spec tree. Theme connects well. Some cool looking fun spells and gimmics.
Claps to them IMO.
Its a great start.
It could of ended up like another Oracle build. yikes.
It moves kinda slowly but tracks ok, the issue is more that shadow doesn’t have the ability to make it big enough / extend it because all the metrics are currently tuned around how disc interacts with it not shadow.
For example it expands for every penance bolt for disc, but for shadow it’s every plague cast. Also void blast replaces smite for disc, making it have no cd, whereas for shadow it replaces mind blast meaning you can’t get anywhere near as much extension.
If they fixed both of those things it’d probably work a lot better in PvP.
I do share this sentiment. Micro cc, especialy interrupts went overboard.
Its either only instants or just getting mauled to the ground by melees. Why do a class, with zero movement and displacemet abilities that is actualy just bolted tot he ground and have to cast everything in this toxic billion kicks meta(even form healers), even exists. Yes you can make it work, but holy hell it is frustrating to get chain kicked into micro cc into diispell into ppl just sit behind pillars waiting for kick cds because you have no mobility to chase them nor the slow.
Pvp needs a total reset. Classes dont need to have answers for everything, thats where your teammates and comps come in to fill these gabs. Thats just my honest opinion. Torrent should be unintteruptible.
