FEEDBACK: Thoughts on D.R.I.V.E. so far... "IMO"

If that true ( unlocked all ) they shot themselves in foot they should have it let players choose parts to car for ptr . So people could choose how they wanted car like more control but slower speed or faster but harder to control .

Friction-based gameplay. It’s engaging in all the wrong ways, but it is
engaging. I think they’ve taken it way too far though, everything is so abusive.

Do not call me chicken little but I saw this coming. :+1:

I do agree there needs to be a separate keybind for jumping and turning though.

In concept it is good but in implementation it’s not .

Having a fast moving ground mount is good for those that prefer to use aground mount but don’t because flying especially Sky/Dragon Riding is much faster .

The problem is the are implementing it in a city setting with too many obsticles with a vehicle that is honestly too big for the zone causing people to constantly get stuck.

IMO for the city of Undermine it should of been a smaller 3 wheeled trike . I believe something like that would be more manuverable .

Also the vehicle only works in Undermine so when sent to other areas during the quest chain (Zandalar) it is unuseable . I think if it’s use was included in cases like that where there is more open of an area it might help things because the problem isn’t getting around cities so much but the large open areas between zones.

I really believe it is going to work against them as well. They are shooting themselves in the foot so to speak. Limiting DRIVE to Undermine is going to really hurt it. It is a speed designed IMO for wide open LONG routes of travel. Not just a small overly dense isolated city. Sure, this has no place in most of our other War Within zones being built with dynamic flight in mind but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be able to use it in other zones to really explore what it can do.

Again, I am getting more used to it. But is that really making me like it more? Not really, I am sorry to say. It also really seems to work a bit against you as a gatherer. I might just find myself using one of my other 600+ mounts. They are not making this a zone requirement.

I’ve been using my Felcycle from the Secret Mount puzzle personally and like I said in such a small dense area a smaller vehicle similar to any of the cycle mounts would of made more sense.

Hopefully they will learn from this and open it up to more open zones and to more vehicles that are more fitting to zones like Undermine.

I will probably end up using my Felcycle as well. At least until all of the bulk story and questing is done anyway.

Let me say again that could change. This is the first build. They could separate the drift and jump button. Actually, allow us to have some better control over our speed and then it is an entirely new scenario.

My thoughts.
Its cool but needs work. Work it probably won’t get but

  • Recoil. Say if you smash into an object the car bounces back or explodes
  • Sound effects (maybe coming?)
  • Bigger area to actually traverse

The top boost is so fast for the zone it’s impossible to really make use of it and other features. There are fuel cans around that replenish the boost that you don’t need. Using the boost in most places just makes you hit things. Heavy drifting is downright impossible outside of a few corners.

Consider even nerfing the boost speed outright, it works on my machine but I have seen people actually lag as their computer can’t even load the game when moving that fast. More visual customisation stuff for the car like all the dragon riding dragons we got would be cool too, instead of just a hot rod.

p.s. I played this while driving

Have not tried it, but from what I’ve seen on The Youtubes, it looks fun. But Blizzard seems to be marketing this as the next big thing since Dragon Riding, and I SERIOUSLY doubt it will make it to that level.

Dragon Riding aka Dynamic Flight was such a major hit and a major innovation because of its utility as much as how fun it is. You can do it almost anywhere, and it makes questing and just general game play more efficient. Allowing me to focus on doing the fun stuff without spending as much time getting there.

As near as I can tell DRIVE will be isolated to this one new zone. It will probably be a real hoot for a few weeks, as people customize their new cars and race around town. But if it doesn’t expand beyond this one zone after that? I imagine it will become just another mini-game people remember fondly.

Sorta fun, at times, but given how much room the “sky” has in Undermine, how many obstacles are in the road that stop your mariocart, and how much work went into allowing us to ride any mount as dragonriding for this expansion

I’m at a loss. Either Blizzard thinks this is not going to be fun, which would be why they limit flying in the zone to force you to use the cars, but then why do something you know players won’t like. OR, it will be crazy fun once its done (it is not yet), and players will love using it, and then you don’t have to disble dragonriding because the car is more fun and people will use it.

Either way, this decision feels weird.

I really like the idea of sliding off of walls instead of getting randomly dismounted. I hope they get rid of random rocks and other debris that would either put you at a dead spot or somehow dismount/dc you because the game has no idea what’s going on.

In theory, I like the idea of DRIVE but we’ll see when it goes live.

I will say this, if I am looking to do some material farming. It will not be while using the D.R.I.V.E. system. I will be using any other mount that I am skilled into gathering while mounted with. Not only can we not gather with these cars, but we just blow past the stuff without having actual breaks and totally forget it if you hit your turbo. Unless of course we use a wall or object to stop us. Enough of those all over I guess to make that an effective way to stop.

Drive reminds me of playing Burnout on PS2

Tried it on ptr. Im not sold on this mechanic.

I don’t enjoy the feel for the handling, not a fan of this style of driving in games and really dont look forward to being forced to use it for the new zone.

Imo this needs more time in the oven as right now it feels undercooked for a major feature we have to interact with.

Other than for a few world quests I have not yet seen any other cases that forced us to use this D.R.I.V.E. mount. Sure, that is subject to change in a future build but most of my time is spent on other mounts.

Sorry forced is a bit dramatic. The distance you need to travel to get around and lack of flying nudges you towards it.

Which, just for feedbacks sake, I’m against.

Well since realms came up late today, I did put in a bit more time with the D.R.I.V.E. system and even tried most of the races again. I managed to get gold time and had fewer collision issues today not to say there isn’t still some graphical glitches that hurt my eyes to have happen, but I believe with some time Blizzard will fix it. Here is to being hopeful they do
 X X my fingers.

I feel its a way for them to kill flying since they said they don’t like flying. Too bad. This team needs to learn that team ONE, the good team that knew what they were doing, put flying in the game, players love it, and they need to get over it.

This go kart thing reeks of developer hubris. Some dev had an idea. And refused to put it down when it turns it doesnt work well in wow.

There are no physics interactions when hitting objects. You just stop dead. You dont crash off it. Now you are stuck on it, unless you back peddle.

Its also just inferior to flying, you can see where you are trying to go because stuff is in the way.

Its also one of those things where they know we aren’t gonna interact with it if given another choice, so they had to disable flying in this zone so that we will interact with, why? Because the dev who came up with the idea is arrogant.
