Feedback - Stress Test

This morning on Realm #15 i rolled a dwarf hunter from start, felt normally occupied not too crowded, completed starting quests within normal limits, moved on to next areas to level 8 without complication. So much fun and really enjoyed the classic test period. Had a death run out of Yeti cave with a group i met in there yelling LEEEROOOY and rolling with laughter.thank you for bringing the game back to being a joy.

On server 15 undead starting area, every creatures was pretty much dead. Took a little bit to get all quest done. The second zone was way less crowded. Was able to quest easier, but the server felt dead. I am pretty sure I was on a dead layer. Only saw few people in Brill, which I was hoping see more people.

I tried dwarf and human areas for questing on server 12.

  1. Yes both dwarf and human areas were way to overcrowded. No mobs alive and 1-2 people camping spawn points while more ran around.

  2. I gave up on dwarf area due to the crowd but did make it to goldshire on human toon and all the quests after that, especially the mine, were very crowded. I had to camp spawns myself to finish the mine quests.

Very crowded overall. Even taking breakings logging out coming back later, crowd was always thick.

I felt alone during the beta stress test i never saw more than 2 other people in sw or while questing once i got past starting zone. Layering has its potential uses but should be used with restraint. No cities should be layered making interacting tough. Also should have minimum or no layers possible to keep server up to get true experience. I was on server 3.

Started on Realm 5, made it to level 4 quite easily with minimal competition before being forced onto Realm 3.

The beginning was pretty bad there, formed a party and finished Balance of Nature together to get ahead of the flood of level 1’s. After that it was still hard to get mobs, but possible to solo it. I was out of Shadowglen in about 1.5 hours.

From there it was rare to see other players at all. Ran into a duo on Twisted Hatred, stayed with the duo I met there to do Ferocitas the Dream Eater, and ran into someone who was waiting outside the cave for the quest to do Oakenscowl.

Found Blackmoss the Fetid and was able to solo him to about 50%, so I went and found a druid who was doing Tumors to come help me kill it, then we finished the quest together.

Once I finished Teldrassil, I ran over to Loch Modan and logged off with 9 hours played after doing Filthy Paws with a couple of gnomes.

The next day, I finished leveling to 15 in Loch Modan and literally didn’t see a single other player. Checking “who” for the zone stated there were 5 players in Loch Modan.

Layering is trash and game breaking. Being on realms that were full but empty is not fun and is not real classic.

Realm 15

Logged in around 2:00am, played on and off until the server shutdown. It was not too crowded, but still easy to find groups. Same in the second zone.

  1. It was of course very crowded, but not overly so. It was as i expected in the starting zones.
  2. Second zones were slightly less crowded but still had to fight for quest objectives a bit. Overall it was fine though, grouping for quests was an easy way to work around it.

Damage font is currently the Legion damage font in which the size scales based on distance. Could the damage font be changed to reflect the legacy damage font?

Server 15. Gnome. Started about an hour and a half after realms opened.

  1. 1-5 area was too crowded, even for launch day. The rest of Dun Morogh was better, but just barely. It did not help that I had to leave the 1-5 zone early in order be able to tag anything.

  2. The second zone was fine.

Final day; Alliance human starting area:

Got into test late…starting zone was moderate and completely manageable by this time as most had moved to the next zones.

No buggy experiences.

Character creation screen needs work as mentioned, feels like I need glasses and a flashlight.

I add my voice in opposition of layering.

If used at all I would estimate that starting zones could benefit in the extreme short term. I feel that any extended use will adversely impact the community and the result would be regrettable.

Overall my experience was smooth and enjoyable.

Server 12 - played from about 7pm to midnight Wednesday, not sure when I started on Thurs - maybe noonish to midnight taking time out for meals - played Friday from about 8am to 1pm.

Valley of Trials - pretty congested - took me over an hour to finish that area on a Shaman - mob tagging pretty competitive but doable - out to Durotar - players much more spread out - killed boars and scorpids on the way to Razor Hill so I could have stuff to level cooking once I reached Org. Didn’t have many congestion issues by the time I started questing in Sen’jin and Razor Hill.

Started an Orc Warrior on Thurs afternoon and it was sill kind of congested but not as bad as Wed night. No issues after leaving Valley of Trials.

Things felt very populated. I joined groups on some quests and others I just fought for tags. Some quests I had almost no competition at all.

I leveled fishing on a whim on the Shaman - forgot how hard those first few skill ups could be but got fairly quickly up where I could train the next level though I had to go do another quest to have the silver to do that. Fishing felt like I remembered it though.

I died a few times on the Shaman from the usual kinds of stuff - mob too high aggro - mob added while I was at half health from the one I was fighting - beefy voidwalkers in Skull Rock kicking my butt while their warlock buddies spammed spells.

I did notice a few mobs trapped under the terrain here and there - not many but there was no way in game to report them.

All in all I had a fun experience and if you had left it up all weekend I would still be playing it right now instead of chugging out some wq in current wow.

1st Day of Stress Test
Realm 15 | 4:00PM-9:00PM CST: Starting areas (Northshire, Coldridge, Shadowglen, etc.) were uncomfortably full. Mob tagging was impossible. I ended up skipping half of the quests in the lvl 1-5 area.

Realm 12 | 9:00 PM-1:00 AM CST: Once I moved onto the rest of Teldrassil it was actually the best experience of the stress test. It was easy to find partners for quests and the pace was good.

2nd day of stress test - Realm 12
11:00AM-2:00PM CST: Darkshore was pretty much empty. There were only a few people leveling in the whole zone. The pet actions seemed bugged. If my pet was set to passive, they wouldn’t continue attacking. I would press the “pet attack” button and the cat would run a little bit towards the mob but then would promptly return. I had to keep “defensive” on for the pet to attack mobs until dead.

3rd day stress test - Realm 12
3:30PM-4:30PM CST: Pet issues remained. I noticed that the pet movements weren’t fluid. The pet would sometimes not follow a straight path between me and the mob. If I had to re-send a pet after a mob in the middle of a fight, the pet would occasionally not stay on the mob and would keep disengaging. Overall experience over the stress test was pretty good aside from the pet issues. It made playing a hunter pretty frustrating and felt very bugged. My mentality has been “Blizzard release the game early!” but at this point I feel like these issues I mentioned would very much impact my enjoyment in a negative way.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to test this game. I can’t wait for launch and look forward to seeing positive changes from the beta and stress testing. Hope this helps!

Answering the above questions, I played on realm 3 and the time my first answer relates to was about 1600 central time on launch day.

For a specifically launch day experience, I felt like the crowds weren’t as large as I was expecting. It was definitely a fight to tag mobs, but I understand that layering/sharding servers might make things more manageable on a launch day, and grouping made things easier.

Once I moved to the second zone (roughly 1100 central time on the final day) it felt largely like a ghost town in comparison to how the first zone was. Following launch day I knew there were still a ton of people playing, but I felt like no one was around due to layering. General chat was dead, and part of what made launch day so fun was everyone talking in general chat.

I tried to make my feedback unbiased, and wrote in a few bug trackers while playing. Looking forward to launch, thanks to Blizz and the community!

So I did the unthinkable and for Classic Realm 3 (PVP), around 1330 Mountain Daylight Time, and made a human paladin. The entire zone of Northshire Abbey was exceptionally active although it was not obscenely overpopulated; no such issue as there being no mobs to kill to level but it was a bit too heavy on the busy side in that there was a lot of waiting. It seems like layering was greatly reduced in this area and by the time I hit Goldshire, it did not really improve in any of the kobold mines for the gold dust or the candles, which I spent about forty minutes doing between all the players. This wasn’t so positive but it wasn’t impossible to deal with, with a small reduction probably not harming it realistically.

Started at around 5:15p.m. on Realm 3, Orc/Troll starting area.

Before the realms were condensed, it was a normal amount of people and seemed maybe a little underpopulated. This changed however with the restarts reducing the realm count to 2 and engaging full stress procedures. Realm 3 became severely overpopulated, with a tremendous amount of people attempting to even kill boars. For the most part, there was only lag for a few minutes early on and it quickly stabilized. My friend and I raced to tag mobs and get ahead of people in the area, getting to Sen’Jin Village at a reasonable time despite the amount of people.

The population quickly decreased once we got to Razor Hill, in part due to how far behind some were and how the layering was evening out. At some points, the population felt like an appropriate amount, maybe the maximum I would like to see while questing and never got back to those absurd numbers from before. This of course is probably due to the layering changes and maybe some of the interest waning as the test was for such a short duration.

Overall, quite a wonderful experience. This was my first chance to play Classic and I was not disappointed in the slightest. If anything, my desire to play has gone up considerably. This test also proved how much those ‘other’ servers got wrong and has been quite impressive. I’m glad Classic is going well and look forward to launch.

That bit was unimportant for my stress test thoughts. As my issues were with them forcing the servers to close and have everyone funnel into 2 realms within 30 minutes of the test starting.

Wasn’t able to play until Thursday. Logged on about 6 PDT and played until 10.

Created a Night Elf and began questing. I definitely saw people running around and some local chat but It never felt over crowded or empty. I personally never found myself competing for mobs but it was still a very pleasant experience.

Hunter strafe is definitely a little messed up. Only when strafing left though? I use mouse right click along with keyboard to strafe. I back pedaled quickly instead of strafing.

EDIT: I played on Realm 3

I played horde on server 5 it was better than i had expected lots of people competition for mobs , it slowed things down but for a launch simulation seemed great. however the northern areas of durotar were empty.
After entering the barrens i only saw two other people untill i hit 15. It was unfortunate.
