Feedback - Stress Test

Classic Realm #3 at 4pm on and off throughout. Most sessions were between 2-4 hours.

At 4pm things were a little crowded but every single quest was achievable in the Valley of Trials.

I was pretty quiet. At most there was around 4-5 other players questing around Zalazane’s Island while I was there and it tapered out to maybe 2-3 players when I started around the Harpies between Razor Hill and Org.

If Layering is going to encompass the entire continent of Kalimdor, things are going to get pretty lonely between 10-60. Will provide further feedback after my next session.

Realm 3

Ran smoothly most of the time some competition for quest items/mobs not too bad game crashed a few times.

Leveled a Druid and a Priest into the teens while casting the game played pretty well but as soon as I played melee/feral to 200 plus ping playing from Australia was noticeable and bought back bad memories of playing vanila back in the day, couldn’t hit mob because it wasn’t standing where it looked like on the screen.
Ping went up into the 400s at times and if that is what we have to play with from Australia, I won’t be renewing.

Apart from that it was fun did some crafting gave away some wands i made in the UD starting area to help people with their leveling and hope to play again soon.

Yesterday I was playing on realm 2 from 12.00 till 16.00 ST. It was good enough in the beginning and slightly frustrating in the end, when the server population started growing. I spent like an hour trying to get my canvas scraps from Alliance marines. But overall experience was rather smooth, except for some other player characters being stuck in the T-pose, but I guess it’s just my latency (I’m playing from Europe with 180 ping).

P.S. Please fix pets unresponsiveness in the passive stance. Most of the time they just stand there doing nothing when I press attack.

P.S.S. I’d like also to report a bug, cause I’m not allowed to post on Classic Beta forums. Grow casted by Witch Doctor in Training Bom’bay had no effect on my character.

Realm 15 - Played for the first 2 hours immediately from launch. I liked the amount of people around me but it was still too much for the current mob spawn rate. Some quests took me up to 45 minutes to complete due to there being too many people camping mobs that took too long to respawn. All I can say would be to increase mob spawn rate on launch by maybe 2x?

Played on Classic Realm 3, Mulgore (out of the 4 leftover realms). Saw maybe 3 other players from levels 1-7, despite it being “high” pop. Felt a little empty but I remember Mulgore being like that when I first started. :stuck_out_tongue:

Didn’t really get a chance to move on to next zone.

It’s going to be like that at launch. So skip the starter quests. Get into a group and do like in the old mmorpg days: mindlessly grind mobs outside the the starting zone to level up.

Then start working on the higher level quests while the level 1-5s are still waiting for stuff to respawn in the starting zone.

Didn’t get to play immediately at launch time due to work, however when I did play at off-peak hours it was still very crowded in the beginning areas. After moving through past level 8 the questing experience was enjoyable while still seeing other players out in the world, and even forming parties for quest npcs just as we did back in vanilla of 05 (when I began). Did not experience any noticeable issues regarding lag/layering.

Realm 12, Alliance around 5pm PST

Tons of people, which felt great, because it also felt like the mobs were spawning faster. Did not have any issue finding mobs to tag in Northshire. After starting the quests over in Goldshire, the competition seemed to pick up. Maybe less people, but also slower spawning mobs.

  • After servers got merged starting zones became extremly populated and laggy. Selling items to a vendor took more than 60s and the delay after turning in quests was >30s. Mob spawn points had to be camped as mobs were almost killed instantly. Therefore finishing quests was only possible in groups.

  • I was very surprised to find that after leaving the lvl 1-5 starting zone all issues were gone and players dispersed just fine into the world.

I was on realm 3 later in the evening, and people started talking in chat about Horde attacking SW. They weren’t attacking in my (dead) shard. It was very disappointing to be in an all but empty version of SW and see people talking about something fun going on in the city I was in, but I couldn’t see it or take part in it.

I mean, I get that this is a test and isn’t about my enjoyment, but it makes me think hard about what the game is going to be like after launch. I also think testing during a city raid (with everyone there involved) would have provided good info.

Not a fan of layering.

Hello, not sure where this belongs but I noticed on Realm 12 that I was able to create 12 characters (2 more than expected). The create character button was still active upon creating the 12th and when I attempt to make a 13th character it disconnects from server. Thanks!

I think i was on classic 12, pve. Yes it was extremely crowded in the undead starter area. It took the better part of 30 minutes to finish each quest because of the mob tagging and number of people. Everything was tagged as soon as it spawned so it was very difficult to get the needed kills for the quests.

Also, are these the original character sheets? They seem to be lacking a lot of info like movement speed, health and resource regen rates, hit chance, etc.

  1. I played both early morning (6am to 11am EST) and prime time (7pm to 11pm EST)
  2. Classic Realm 15 PVP
  3. Additional Information: Age- mid 50’s.

Q1: “Was it too crowded?” … the lengthy respawn times of mobs made it seem crowded, also the difficult time trying to ‘tag’ a mob - BUT that is the original WoW, and it did not bother me at all, as I’m a ‘first generation’ WoW player.

Q2: “Did it feel to empty or too crowded after you moved to the second zone” … I thoroughly enjoyed playing the original warlock again, so glad to have lifetap back!! My levelling experience was easy, level 12 in no time, and enjoyed actually questing for the void minion again. I actually did not notice other players once I got to the second zone. I was able to do all quests solo, without grouping. One advantage for me was already knowing the game, and how to level quickly and get a ‘jump’ out to the second zone before many others.

Latency Report Being A ‘Hotspot’ User: … I live in a remote area with no cable or broadband internet, so I use a ‘ATT Nighthawk Dedicated Hotpot Router’ for gaming and internet connection. During the entire times I played, even at peak times, my latency was stable at between 78ms and 82ms. I’m on the East Coast, Mid Atlantic, in the mountains between Virginia and West Virginia. Never had a latency issue with all the players running around, and I had all settings on maximum.

Summary: … I enjoyed playing the original game again and can hardly wait for opening day! I enjoy a ‘dungeon crawl’ experience and not rushing through things. I definitely will be in original WoW, and will be saying goodbye to the present version of WoW. I expect the servers to be crowded during opening, but that will soon change, as ‘new’ and ‘younger’ players head back to ‘Retail Easy Mode WoW’. I think those who are veteran original WoW players will stick around, and form a good community. I enjoyed this stress test!

Classic Realm 3 PVP
First day: 1pm UTC+10 20/06/19
-Perfect population, pretty crowded and had to fight for tags in the starter zone + kobold cave.
-By level 10 (around 6pm) the population thinned a lot, only saw a handful of people in Goldshire.
-At level 15 (around 10pm) I relogged in Sentinel Hill, Westfall was pretty much empty. Didn’t see another player for an hour.

Second day: 4pm UTC+10 21/06/2019
-Starter zone pretty quiet, only a handful of players. Encountered maybe 3 players total once I was in Eastern Elywnn.
-6pm, Starter zone was empty, as was Goldshire. Saw only 1-2 players.

Overall the first day was great in Elwynn - Westfall however had no players.
Second day I barely saw anybody - definitely an inferior experience to the first day.

Server 12, around 10:00 p.m. Pacific

I would not say it was overly crowded - I have seen WAY worse in starting areas. There are a decent amount of players though, probably more than 20. The issue does not appear to be an excessive amount of players but rather an excessive time between mob spawns. We kill them & then just stand around waiting for their corpses to decay and then for them to respawn. It seems like it’s taking a very long time for this.

Also, it seems as if the spawns are fewer. I seem to recall (I’m in Deathknell atm) there being at least 3 Rattlecage Skeletons inside the forge building, as well as probably at least 3 more wandering around OUTSIDE. I also seem to recall that they were RED and not yellow mobs. The named undead guy near the gate was ALSO hostile & not neutral. I ended up logging for the night - I needed to kill 12 Rattlecage Skeletons, counted only 7 spawn points (for single mobs) and didn’t feel like camping one spot for an hour or so just to get 11 more kills.

Ok at Solliden Farmstead now, there are WAY less players but zone chat still seems fairly active. However, again the mob density is WAY off. That field should have been FULL of farmers, but there were only 3 or 4. The current mob densities are consistent with Expanded WoW and not with how they were in Vanilla.

Made a troll Shaman but since there are only about 12 hours left, the starting area is pretty empty. It feels like she’s leveling a bit too fast though - she’s only completed ONE quest in the starter valley and she is already level 3. It took much longer for my Forsaken to get to level 3 in Deathknell. She was level 5, almost 6 when she headed to Sen’jin Village & the discovery xp dinged her up to 6 when she got there. That seems to be equal to the level of the mobs, so I guess it’s working as intended? Also, as far as mob density in both Valley of Trials & Sen’jin/Echo Isles, both areas seem to be much as I remembered them to be.

***My Forsaken is a Warlock & there should be cooldowns on some of her spells. She has one curse & Immolate so far - BOTH of those should have a cooldown. I remember this specifically because when I created my first warlock during Vanilla, a friend who had a level 60 advised me on a spell rotation that was based on the cooldowns of curses & Immolate.

The quest “Lazy Peons” in the Valley of Trials where Trolls & Orcs are born does not show ANY reward upon turn-in. It did grant me 450 xp, but I am pretty sure that should be shown when you go to turn it in.

Both Tirisfal (heading to Brill from Deathknell) and the Sen’jin Village area had low populations when I arrived, but I think it was more due to the time of day rather than the layering. Both zone chats were very alive so there were definitely players, just more spread out due to the size of the area (Tirisfal & Durotar) at that point.

The hours I played were: ~10 p.m. Pacific Wednesday-~1 a.m. Thursday, ~9 p.m. Thursday-4 a.m. Friday. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back on before the test ends (I’ve been told it will end Friday, although I’d think that y’all would keep it open through the weekend since more people will have time off to play and REALLY stress it out) & if so I’ll leave more details if needed.

Realm 2 Northshire.
Was a bit too crowded. People standing waiting for one Mob to spawn, basically. It was just camping that one spawn point via Everquest syndrome.

Once out of Northshire it got better as people spread out in Elwyn Forest (minus the first mines you explore/quest).

Shutting down several servers 30 minutes in was kinda crappy. I purposely picked a server with a low-to-medium population only to get kicked out and forced into high population ones. It took me way too long to finish the first few quests in the Dwarf starting zone.

I ended up logging off for a few hours to let the zone flush out.

Revisiting the game I thought it was good although I wasn’t expecting so many quests to need a group to complete.

realm 3,
On the first hours it was superpopulated, but then after some dcs, i barely saw people leveling. Ogrimmar and undercity were dead, it felt like there was 3 people there.

It really feels like a ghost town after that initial 3 hour test period. I did a /who Org today and it showed 50 people in Org… I guess none of them were in my layer because I swear I saw a tumbleweed but no players.

my god… i see a lot of people complaining that they need to wait for respawn of mobs because of many people and ninja tagging… what do you expect at launch day!? if you want to see less people, wait a few days to play and it will be over…

Sadly diodnt get to test as i am in EU and i dont have US active sub :frowning: darn you blizz! still love you tho cry
