Feedback Request: Renown System

Hi All,

There is currently a topic some of you may have seen in the Community Council Forum regarding Renown. If you are interested it is located here:

Now that the 9.2 patch is upon us and players have had ample opportunity to see what it’s all about I wanted to invite everyone who participates in the forums a consolidated location to provide their feedback on the Renown system as it currently stands in the game.

What do you like or dislike about it?
What aspects of it do you think need to be adjusted?
Is it just fine the way it is?

Let’s give the development team constructive and reasoned feedback and discussion that they can use.

Honestly i don’t know what is the problem , i got 57 renown by just doing this :

-50-60 leveling > 1 bonus = 1 renown so you have to do them all + xp is op > 20-25 renown
-ZM 3/9 chapters > 30-35 renown

i don’t know how renown can be a problem right now

but yeah make a renown 80 boost , it’s always better anyway

You should only have to earn up to 80 Renown for each covenant once. After you get to 80, all your alts on your account should be able to jump right up to 80.

Weekly cap that increased with time was good
return lost souls quest was boring, korthia weekly was better.
90%+ of the power being accessible at 57/80 is good, and if you have the 40 boost, you can cap with 2 covenants at 57.

Personally, i would simply make it so that completing the following activities gives a guaranteed renown point up till 80 (instead of rarely past a certain point):

  • Torghast (any layer)
  • Heroic Dungeons
  • Mythic Dungeons
  • World bosses
  • Daily Callings
  • Weekly quest
  • PVP activities (sorry I don’t pvp much cant get im the details here)

That way, if you want to farm your renown to 80 by doing heroic dungeons, you can. If you want to farm Torghast, you can. Whatever is your type of activities that you like, you can farm it to get to 80 renown, and not have to worry about some activities having better chances of giving you a point and stuff like that.

Which is fine and dandy for people who are just starting the character. But for an established level 60 that switches covenants, like me, we have 2 choices after using the Renown Boost:

  1. Do Callings, which most people are sick of at this point in the expansion, especially since we have no reason to go back to the covenant hall anymore so most of us changed our hearthstone. (Plus, for a newly switched covenant, we dont have an oribos portal, so setting our hearth there is detrimental)
  2. Do Random BGs, LFR, Dungeons, or Torghast.

That’s it. There’s no open world options.

My feedback is in regards to not only renown but every system currently in the game. If I do a system once on one character then it should be available on any character I play. This includes but is not limited to:

Renown, Soulbinds, Conduits, Venari perks, Covenant upgrades, and Torghast.

If I level up another character, I want to be able to begin playing whatever content I wish without going through all these hoops again, whether it be dungeons, raids, pvp, or pet battles.

I recently leveled a new covenant renown for 9.2 prep. When you are during current level renown gaining at the start of 9.0 or 9.1 with everyone else, it isn’t really a noticeable system and a fairly convenient time-gate for some extra player power for Blizz. The issue with renown is when you are not doing it with everyone else. Getting renown caught up to everyone else is really boring when you need 40 for a covenant reroll or 80 for a new player. Once you get done with the campaigns and have done your covenant quests for the day you get to choose between playing normally but also weaker or try to get caught up faster by spam running Torghast. Personally, I don’t like being weaker than I know I should be. if I go do a key and am missing renown upgrades and we miss the timer by a couple of seconds I feel like that is my fault for not getting my renown farmed up and being that little bit stronger. I also find running 10 torghasts to try to get mroe renown very boring.

In terms of adjusting it to solve that issue there would really only be three options. 1- you could just not have renown. 2- you could make renown irrelevant to anything power related. You would basically give everyone every soulbind and max upgrades when they joined a covenant. 3- you could make the acquisition of renown much faster to the extent that it is a minor inconvenience at worst to have to farm.

Conduits ilvl shoulda been tied to renown via the empowering mechanic not some rng BS we currently have especially if not a large player power buff as devs have indicated they were meant to be

Renown shoulda been from Anything not some hokey two quests i have to do or the catch up wont kick in.

The catch up system SHOULD have been the system for acquisition.

Renown and rep shouldn’t both exist as if im renowned why do i need rep. Its a dble grind

I dont like stam buffs being gated by renown. Cosmetics and story sure idc about that.
