Some feedback regarding War Mode and WPvP. First off, I love that you’re bringing back the WPvP tier set bonus. It was one of the best parts of Dragonflight and I was really disappointed when it disappeared in TWW. So far it only has the 4 set bonus, but Im assuming you’ll add the 6 set as well?
It’s still early in the expansion but Bloody Tokens already feel pretty useless once you have a full set of Conquest. It would be great if they became a warband transferable currency or if we had more ways to actually spend them. I would love to see War Mode only consumables come back like we had in Dragonflight before they were allowed in battlegrounds. Being able to buy those again with Bloody Tokens would help a lot, or even being able to convert them into Honor would be a good option.
The next thing I want to talk about is flying. People always say flying kills WPvP, but I really don’t think that’s true. Flying is only bad when we don’t have reliable ways to dismount people. Whirling Surge is amazing for dismounting, but it only works on players using skyriding. There is no reliable way to dismount players on steady flight. The Net-o-Matic is awful, it’s extremely easy to outrange after the speed increase from 320% to 420% and you can also simply sit high enough in the air that nothing can reach you. The tooltip off Whirling Surge suggests that it should work on steady flight since it says it will dismount “airborne players”, but it doesn’t. Please consider letting it dismount steady flight or at least buffing the Net-o-Matic so that it’s range is longer and it casts instantly.
Also, druid flight form desperately needs to be fixed. They face almost no risk of being dismounted because their form has been bugged since the Travel Form consolidation in Legion. For example, Net-o-Matic will only work if they’re in the air, but if they touch the ground during the travel time of the net, it will instantly negate the effect and not dismount (game will recognize them as a ground mount, net doesn’t work on ground mounts). They’re also immune to Whirling Surge.
The last thing I want to bring up is crate farm raids. Crates are a great source of Conquest and they are convenient for gearing alts, but they are also extremely unhealthy for War Mode. Crates used to be something you could have a good fight over, but now it is just a steamroll on one side or the other.
These raids kill any chance of organic WPvP because a 40 man crate group will wipe out any local players instantly. It happens across multiple shards too, which makes it even worse. These groups are not there for PvP. They are there for efficiency and will shard hop the moment they run into another crate group, which creates lopsided fights in the next shard they land on.
People do this because crates are by far the best source of Conquest right now, which is strange considering how little PvP you actually need to do for them. I think the easiest fix is to disincentivize crate farming raids.
Buff all the other sources of Conquest. Remove the diminishing returns from random battlegrounds and skirmishes and let us get that amount of Conquest every win instead of only once per day. Add a daily lockout to crates but increase the one time crate reward to around 300 to 350 Conquest. Crates would still be valuable and worth fighting over, but there would no longer be a reason to run 40 man raids all day for them. It would also push people toward other content like battlegrounds and skirmishes.
If you wanted to help battleground gearing even more, you could add a base item level scaling system for undergeared players. We used to have something like this in WoD before stat templates in Legion removed it. You could use the basic crafted PvP item level as the minimum. Anyone below that number gets scaled up. It is a simple way to stop new or undergeared players from getting instantly destroyed.
Please consider these changes for WPvP. I am really hopeful that Midnight can be even better for open world PvP than TWW, especially with the addition of the new open world Voidstorm battleground.
