The lesson that was taught and learned post Legion was pruning utility from classes felt bad. Utility is the identity of many specs and classes. Which is why unpruning commence post Legion and reached its state in DF. But with TWW we are heading backwards again and this is not good. The new dev team and new devs that have come on board need to understand the history of WoW and why going down this path AGAIN is a mistake.
Abomb limb for DKs, Marked for Death for Rogues, Barrage for Hunters, etc. Poof. All gone and now these classes are less nuanced and feel worse off to play.
The primary complaint about new, inexperienced and returning players to WoW is that class ROTATIONS are too complex.
Some players are complaining about class complexity in doing PVE rotations.
Removing utility from classes doesn’t help solve that problem. In fact it makes it worse and here is why.
With the arrival of OBR players that have less experience with class or WoW general can now focus MORE on using utility and mechanics and not worry about complex rotations. Great right?
Well, by taking away and stripping utility what you have done is caused two issues that were common in Legion:
- Makes classes and specs boring and less defined.
- Mistakes in using your existing utility are magnified now and it is more punishing as a result.
With players now able to see what classes are truly capable of in terms of utility without having to be hyper focused on rotations what players are finding is that classes that have less utility are less coveted.
Which is why I would dovetail into the argument why racials that offer utility are highly coveted right now (eg Night Elf Shadow Meld).
Players are starved looking for classes that provide the most utility while being able to deliver damage, healing throughput or tanking ability.
Until BlizZard understands this paradigm they are not going to be able to bridge the gap of understanding from a player view point.
