Feedback on Wargame Spectator Mode

This weekend I hosted a Warsong Gulch tournament between the Horde guilds on my server via the Wargame feature. It was my first time using the spectator mode, and I was blown away by how counter-intuitive and non-user friendly it was.

The controls for manipulating the camera are needlessly complicated. Once inside the match, a new tab becomes available in your keybindings option menu for selecting all the keys to control the camera. There are no defaults. Everything starts off unbound, so you can’t properly do anything until you spend time customizing it. By the time you’re done, you’ve missed part of the match. The keys you select for the camera keybindings also override your regular keybindings. Once I exited the match, all my Character’s keybindings were ruined.

Even after you get all the keys bound to your liking, controlling the camera, and getting it to move exactly where you want it is incredibly difficult. The way the camera tries to move is just simply bizarre. It is also very finicky at times. It will often seem like it’s trying to resist the direction you want it to move, and if you keep pushing it, it will freak out and just start spinning everywhere like crazy.

I really don’t see why the camera couldn’t just be controlled as if you were on a flying mount with a 1st-person view. All you should need is the arrow keys and two buttons for altitude.

The keybindings option should also be available to set before you enter the instance so that you can be prepared ahead of time, and the keybindings should not interfere with the bindings you use outside of the spectator mode.
