So if y’all don’t know yet, there is an event similar to a war supply crate drop that happens every 6 hours in one of the four zones (not sure if it’s on a rotation or random), except this event doesn’t spawn a war supply crate, it spawns an Unbound Spoils chest. This chest is guaranteed once a week per character to drop a Vicious Jeweler’s Setting (which costs 9750 honor if you bought it from the vendor) that adds a socket to your gear.
This is a nice way to save yourself from having to farm 9750 honor but there’s a huge problem with this event. The first time I tried looting the spoils, there was a massive battle in The Ringing Deeps in one of the PvP flagged areas where alliance can attack alliance, and the battle went on for so long that the spoils just de-spawned because it’s impossible to loot it in the middle of all the chaos. This chest has a long cast time to actually loot it. And if anyone does manage to loot it, it de-spawns after maybe 30 seconds or so, but it does not become an instant loot chest the same way that the war supply crate chest does once a faction has claimed it. So you just have a bunch of people (on the same faction in many cases) fighting each other for the cache that requires a 4 sec cast time to loot it without being hit by anything which makes it basically impossible to loot. From what I can tell, the Unbound Spoils only spawns in the PvP flagged areas so there is always same-faction combat happening. The war supply crate has many spawn points that are not in the free-for-all zones so it’s much easier to claim that crate.
What people have been doing is pre forming 5-man groups before the event happens and most groups are inviting 2 healers and once the big battle happens it’s just a massive 5v5v5v5v5v5v5v5 where nobody dies, cache eventually de-spawns, nobody is happy.
There is also a PvP-flagging bug that happens in the area where a player will not be hostile to their own faction even though they are supposed to be, so it becomes very easy for that player to loot the cache because they only have to worry about the opposite faction. This is problematic because that bugged player easily loots the cache while being unattackable, then the cache de-spawns after 30 seconds , and that player is the only player to get a socket.
Perhaps the unbound spoils spawn location can be somewhere that isn’t in the free-for-all zones or make it easier to loot in some way. I know it should be kind of difficult to loot because you’re getting a free socket out of it but I think it’s poorly implemented right now.
Also apparently there is a bug where if Hallowfall happens to be the chosen zone, the cache just doesn’t spawn so it’s a gg go next meet up 6 hours from now situation

Good feedback. I want to say put a post like this in Bugs so the team(s) that look there can see this issue. This may be a pvp dev design team problem, it may be a bug team issue too, so maybe both looking at it leads to some faster changes.
Sounds crazy. What is blizz thinking. Should be a WM quest of some sort for anyone to pick up and go do. Fill a bar or whatever, turn in, get reward.

Past 4 times I attempted this event either to help friends or for my alt everyone hit one another for no reason.
There is no limit on how many people can loot this. It’s not faction locked. You literally just show up and don’t hit people and you can get the chest, it’s not that hard just people are idiots.
yeah I know, people just see red nameplate and zug

There IS a limit and that limit is 5 players. Only 5 players are able to loot the chest.

It also despawns so if you want to make sure no one gets it just spin it for 2 mins and its gone till next time

I was about to make a post myself but found yours.
I guess nobody is talking about it cause they are scared that more ppl will know about this…
I just dont understand how anyone could think this was a good idea. You put a player power reward behind a chest that spawns once in 6 hours in one of the 4 world pvp areas. As explained it is a huge 5v5v5v5v5v5v5v5 pointless match, chest is up for like 5 mins, if nobody can channel a 5 sec loot (or however long it is) it despawns…and if by some miracle 1 person can, then it despawns after 20 seconds…In total 5 people can loot it…
I am sorry but this is completely nonsensical, it has nothing to do with player skill, nothing to do with any sort of grind…
Impossible to claim on vast majority of realms…
This whole fiesta turned into whether you have or know a person who has a character on low-pop realm so u can jump shards
This needs addressing ASAP.
Either lower the honor socket cost so this whole event doesnt have such crazy high value (farming 10-15k honor takes a LONG time, not everyone has it) or just turn this event into a horde vs ali thing, massively increase the loot count or just remove the limit altogether, why is it even there…
Just make this event make sense.

I haven’t participated in this, but the 5v5v5v… etc. sounds like it would be a fun event – may the best 5-man team win – but it also sounds like the capture mechanic is the problem, no? What if it was like a pretty small capture-and-hold zone (like say 2/3 the diameter of the silvershard mines carts), that goes up to make the chest insta-lootable by your team, but goes down or pauses with the presence of any other player in the zone? Each party has its own capture meter, and the first team to capture wins the chest.
Would something like this work for this event?
that doesnt sound bad but i dont think its even technically doable…
imagine having 7 different 5-man teams at the same spot…how would the capture bar move for any given team? …so 1 team would affect all 7 progress bars, their own and 6 others …seems like a nightmare to code…especially if barely anyone is dying and you can ress fast and come back to “spin” the chest
I think this is one of the biggest reasons wow PvP has deteriorated. Min-maxers hoard knowledge for themselves instead of openly sharing and helping. Sounds like this event is borked by blizz, but putting that aside this thread is the only reason I’ve heard of this opportunity.
Yeah, the way I envision it, one team would have to be the king-of-the-hill for a while to eventually capture the chest.
One way to simplify coding may be to make it so that team members simply contribute to pushing their own team bar upwards if they’re in the zone, and other players in the zone do not interfere with it (multiple teams can make their own independent progress). If a team completes progress, all members can open the chest (instantly – no cast time), however, maintaining how it is now, only the first 5 players will be able to get loot.
[May need some protections to prevent toxic behavior, i.e. kicking a player right before capture, but perhaps unncessary]
I didn’t even know what this event is so I just arrived and started blasting for several mins on my Prot war. I think i made some friends.
Seems like this entire event isn’t well thought out 99% of people don’t know what is going on or what to do when there is this chest.
I mean in video games especially gear based ones the goal is to have an advantage. So it only makes sense to not share everything. I don’t think that hurts PvP but it’s why people play this type of game. Having an advantage is why we log in.
yes thats all true, issue is that this event is designed incredibly poorly…
if you are on “bigger” realms there is 100 ppl spamming aoe and nobody can ever loot it…if you are on some dead RP realm you just come and loot it
Now this is one dooky situation

since we all agree its a dumb mechanic we should all just go there and not fight and just loot it. its not the pvp we want but itll save us hours of time

This really needs to be fixed. I’ve never come across an upgrade in this game that is so easy for other players to grief. The design chosen for this is absolutely horrific. I get that we can buy sockets for honor, so missing this event isn’t the end of the world. The fact that this event is designed the way it is, and a lot of the other changes that Blizzard has been making to PvP in general, make me wonder if they actually look at our feedback at all.

I’ve managed to loot it on my dead server early in the morning, but yeah its next to impossible with others around. Even if you type in general or “say” to not attack your faction. Red = Dead to everyone as the chest just despawns.
its 8:35 est, and i just randomly saw one, that doesnt follow the 6hr rule, and it despawned as i finished opening it, after 45sec of getting hit off the chest by aoe. terrible experience
