Feedback on the Kalimdor Cup

I finally got around to doing these races yesterday. Having completed it all now, I have thoughts. Well, one main thought:
Hey blizz. You know what feels bad? Spending a bunch of hours acing all the races only to find yourself with still not enough badges for all the rewards.

I mean it’s not even close! And that annoying leftover 14? This sucks. A lot. Yeah, obviously I can do some more on an alt. And I will. But do you realise how little I want to have to do that now?

I really hope they price the rewards differently for the EK Cup. If you get all the golds, that should be all you need to do.

EDIT: Since I called this a feedback thread I should probably also add some positivity rather than just my grumbling. Boy this was a fun event! The race courses were generally fantastic. A nice mix of good, less good, easy, and frustrating. And it sure was just wonderful to revisit kalimdor. I made a point of plotting out the order in which I would do the races whereby I could efficiently fly myself between them. As such I got to see a lot of the continent again. Loved that.

It’s a new holiday, so it’ll be back around again to get more.

almost like there’s going to be four other continents with no new rewards.

This was a surprise to me too…however, if you’re goal was just to buy all the items, it’s much easier to do the quest on an alt, which rewards 10 plus however many races you need to get to 20 or 25 or whatever the cost is. From getting the gold achievement on all the races with my main, I bought the transmog, and then bought the other stuff on alts, which went pretty quickly.

We are in agreement. There should be no incentive (the ability to unlock all the rewards faster) to use multiple characters to engage with some event.

It’s a holiday. All holidays have incentives for alts to run them.

You would want the quest removed that gives 10 coins? or make it once per account?

I only gave myself 59, it was not enough for the dragon rider outfit

This is true but it is also bad design. People should never feel like they are worse off because they only play one character. I say this as someone who has many characters that I enjoy playing.

Some people enjoy questing for the sake of questing, so removing it doesn’t seem very beneficial. Maybe they want to talk to the npcs as a new person and say ‘Yes I’ll take up the challenge!” You could make the 10 coin reward once per account, though.

/shrug It was a little annoying, yes. But at least you don’t have to gold everything on an alt to get the last few things.

As for leftover tokens, I assume there’s going to be more stuff coming later. They didn’t expand the Trial of Style vendor until quite a while after that was implemented, and it was a bit strange having nothing to spend the extras on there as well.

No one is “worse off.” It’s a holiday. It’ll be back. We don’t always get all holiday rewards in one go. You’d usually have to no life it. Or in the case of ToS, you aren’t getting all of those transmogs without alts.

This whole “I NEED IT ALL RIGHT NOW” mindset is the issue, imo. People keep pulling the same thing with the Trading Post, too.

And what do you expect to get when the next races come around if it’s all gathered now? Because I’ll be surprised if we see new rewards any time soon.

I’m not sure this is true… over the course of WoW.

If you started playing during DF/SL (ie: “recently”), then it’s absolutely true.

But that’s only because those rewards were built up/ added to over the years.

During the FIRST year of release (eg: these Dragon races), you could buy everything with just your main.

And then next year, when they added ONE thing, obviously you could buy that, too.

And next year, when they again added ONE thing… yep, you bought that.

But for the NEW player… it’s out of reach on just a single chr. Because you’re trying to buy 15 years worth of additions all at once.

So there’s room to argue that point. I’m not trying to, I’m just pointing out how previous holidays compare to this one.

I’m kind of undecided. It feels bad, I wanna hate on it … but there’s no real rush. If you told me they were REMOVING those rewards, and you HAD to run an alt to get them now, then yeah, THAT would be horrible.

But this… I think I just don’t like it because it’s new. When is the next race??

That wasn’t my mindset though. It was “Hell yeah, I’ve put in the work and completed this event in its entirety. Now time to go buy all the fun rewards.” To find that doing everything doesn’t get you everything is just an extremely disappointing conclusion to the event.

That’s a fair point. People don’t need everything right now, but it would be nice if, for an event where you could get X reward from playing alts, you could also get X reward from playing just one character with the same total (time) investment in the event.

The trial of style is an interesting comparison, but I don’t feel that it applies because the rewards a single-character player is missing out on couldn’t be used by their character anyway.

The issue (to quote one of the replies) is that feeling of “I did 100% of the races, I should be able to get 100% of the rewards.”

Except the reality is that we only did 25% of the races, and doing that you can get 80% of the rewards! We’re actually able to get WAYYYYY more than we should! lol

It just feels out of place because all of the races haven’t been released yet. That disconnect is why it … just feels bad/awkward.

This will all be fine once the rest of the races are released.

And… when is that, again?

Is this just an assumption that there won’t be further rewards added with future race events? Or has that been confirmed.

But you haven’t. You’ve only completed part of it. Kalimdor isn’t the only race course. :dracthyr_shrug:

Historically, that’s not usually how holidays work. You’d have to completely no-life the holiday to get all of the rewards.

Given the fact that there are other race courses being added and you can’t get everything without alts now, it’s a pretty good assumption nothing new will be added, as there needs to be incentive to run them as a holiday. They also are very bad at adding new rewards to holidays.

I think there was a red recolour of the armour set floating around on wow head?

So rewards are likely going to be pretty basic either way. Either this is all we get or we get recolours and minor changes.

Also our currency carries over

Has blizzard confirmed this? If so I won’t brother redoing the event in alts, but I’m half expecting them to do recolors of the transmog and turquoise skins for the other drakes.

Trial of style? You can easily get all the transmogs usable by one character on that character alone. There’s no limit to how many style tokens you can get if you just keep queueing for the event.
