Feedback needed for Elemental Shaman noob please

Early levels, with few buttons I seemed to be really enjoying elemental shaman. My damage was excellent, usually top of the charts. Now I hit level 70 and I am doing WW content, and I completely SUCK. I struggle to keep myself alive even, let alone doing good damage. My ilvl is 429 atm. I ran some dungeons and got ZERO gear in WW. Matter of fact NOBODY in party got even 1 piece until the end boss. Do i need higher ilvl? I’m ready to quit this class and that makes me sad, as I really started to like it early on. Any help would be appreciated.

You are 60 item levels under the free gear they were giving out during the prepatch event and worrying about damage lol

This is helpful. Thanks. Don’t bother responding if you don’t have some positive advice to give. I wasn’t around for the pre patch fyi.

While that comment couldve used less sass they are right.

The only issue is ur way below item lvl atm but dint worry about it too much even 480s hit a wall at around lvl 75.

Keep going and do quests since the campaign gives out decent gear. Once u hit 80 and around 580 item lvl u will be doing great again.

I find that my ele shammy, with i559 is a good toon and DPS and survival are good.

I would suggest that you do delves, to get better gear. When you get to about item level 554, you should be ready for dungeon content.

Delves let you solo, and they let you control how high a level content you do, while you are gear leveling. They also give you a lot of great practice with the very wide tool kit that the shammy has. I found it took a lot of practice to get the ingrained feel for what tools to use when, and the delves helped with that. There are no timers and the pace of things is your own.

Also, look for World Quests that have gear upgrades, most are easy to do.
At least that is what I found with my ele shammy.

You are missing his point, likely due to the sarcasm. Basically there is a gearing cliff between coming fresh out of Dragonflight and the opening levels of TWW, because it is tuned for players in gear around 500 give or take 10. This represents a MASSIVE change in primary stats; your stamina is probably less than half of what the dungeon expects it to be. Basically you need to gear yourself via whatever means is easiest (questing, delves, etc) and then re-evaluate. I’ve found Ele to be quite potent myself, although I miss the days when wearing mail actually meant something survivabilitywise.

Yup. If you weren’t able to participate in that, you’d most definitely were/are under geared. Maybe check if the AH has some really cheap higher ilvl gear. Don’t worry about the stats, just the ilvl. Once you get higher, you’ll start getting higher ilvl drops in TWW. It’s all based on ilvl at the begining and then better stats.

Again, the cheapest and highest ilvl gear you can find is probably all you need. And, if you don’t want to spend say 2,500 gold on a chest, don’t get it. Maybe like 500 max per item?

This explains the issue to me PERFECTLY. Thank you so much. I had no idea there was such a cliff between expansions, as I’m relatively new to Wow. Thank you again!!

No problem. There’s usually a cliff between expacs, but how bad of one tends to vary from expac to expac and is usually dependent on how high average player gear stats rose during the previous one. It’s easier for a new player to miss the past ones due to the item squish and retuning easing out the old curves, but they were there. Enjoy your shaman!
