EVERY hunter spec should have a pet synergy/fantasy to fulfill. Pets are the CORE of the hunter class.
You picked a pet based class.
I don’t understand why in shadowlands you said you had focused too much on spec identity and not class identity, and now you’re making specs even more different from each other to where the class barely even matters.
Now you can go BM and have a tonne of pets, go survival and not even use a bow or gun, or go MM and not have a pet at all?
What does the word “Specialization” even mean? I don’t want to play a hunter without a pet.
Pack Leader defensive node feedback:
Will reserve further judgement/feedback on actual gameplay until the PTR is playable, but on first glance there is a glaring issue with the Pack Leader defensive node, Shell Cover.
This is just incredibly weak. I understand the theme behind summoning a turtle as a Pack Leader, but 10% damage reduction for 6 seconds every 2 minutes is laughable.
Compare it to Dark Ranger, for example:
- Permanently healing for 15% of all Shadow damage dealt OR
- Smoke Screen, granting Survival of the Fittest (a 30% DR) whenever you exhil. This is roughly once a minute.
Or compare it to Sentinel:
- A 1% absorb shield every time Sentinel ticks, up to 10%.
How do these even compare? Shell Cover needs to either be cranked up by a large amount or changed to a new functionality, like an actual cheat death effect instead of this current value.
BM should have been the melee spec from the start. Not survival. Survival, with all its explosives, never made sense as a melee fantasy. Throwing bombs at your feet and fighting alongside a vicious animal. It’s literally the opposite of survival! Standing back and using all manner of tech and gadgets though? That’s how survivalists do it! BM meanwhile would be perfect as a melee spec. Your animals are your brothers and sisters. You see them as equals and you get into the fray to fight at their side. Matching their claws and fangs with the edge of your blade! Just like Rexxar does! I mean he canonically hates wars and the devastation they cause to the land and wildlife. He would not use explosives!
just baseline lust for bm and sv so we can just use whatever pet we want
I like the changes so far. But have the Developers discussed making Aimed Shot an empowered ability similar to Evoker Eternity Surge and Breath of Fire? I feel that Aimed Shot would work well as a three-tier empowered ability.
I’m just reading about the changes, and they look interesting, but I won’t have a full reaction until I can test them.
hear me out. spotters eagle and spotters mark: BUT FROM SPACE (to fix lunar storm)
it makes as much sense as an earthen dwarf, mecha gnome, pandaren, vulpera, orc, and whatever else channeling the power of elune and using the techniques and skills of what is essentially the night elf’s main military force
this needs super early attention for ptr. 2 minute cooldown for this just seems wildly inappropriate
I like a bunch of the changes, but make multi shot baseline for Beast Mastery as well. Also rework Hunter’s Mark, make it either apply to both 100-80% and 20-0% or give us a way to spread it around in aoe.
Survival Tierset feedback:
This has always been a problem since the first rework on survival during tww beta where we keep adding tip generator but not thinking about the problem that we don’t have unlimited resource to consume them. When winning streak wears off, after we use a bomb, tier gives us 3 stacks of tip, but what are you gonna do with them, you just used a bomb and very likely you have nothing to press but raptor. 4pc is not providing significant value or in another word it’s way off the spec design of survival hunter.
Pack Leader feedback:
Shell Cover is undeniably week, first it doesn’t save hunter from getting one-shots, second 10% is way too low as a dr to save hunter from periodical damage. For this to have a 2 min cd that effect should have at least a 50 damage reduction to actually worth the cooldown.
Envenomed fang is weird, it is very inconvenient to spread SS in aoe, consuming SS provides zero value
Ursine Fury 10% chance on cdr is poor
So far it seems the new PL gameplay is heavily dominated by RNG, which I can’t tell if is going to be a problem until it’s launched on PTR
Survival change feedback:
Merging flanking strike and butchery is fine, but cooldown on flanking should be reduced
Mongoose bite is still way too weak to be put into consideration
Also are we not reconsidering hunter utility?
I’ve played a Hunter main for the entirety of my 17 years playing this game, and played Marksman almost exclusively for most of it. I don’t enjoy the playstyle of Beast Mastery or Survival (ever since it became a melee spec). I REALLY don’t like the proposed removal of Marksman’s option to use the pets we’ve collected over the years and hope you will reconsider implementing this awful change. I still have my first pet that my friend helped me travel from Eversong Woods to Dun Morogh to tame. I have rare, unobtainable tamed pets that I love to use. I don’t want to be forced to play specs I don’t enjoy to be able to use my pets. Taking away my favorite pets and replacing them with an Eagle isn’t part of my Hunter “fantasy” and might actually make me change my main for the first time in almost 20 years.
As a player who mainly does solo content, does the Eagle tank for us? Can we Misdirect to it? If not, is there a plan to increase our durability/self healing in exchange for this loss?
hear me out. new mm bulletstorm: but on bm barrage (to fix channeling without pressing kc)
Fun fact, the other 2 “pet based” classes have specs where you don’t need to use pets.
Affliction and Destruction Warlocks can sacrifice their pet (been in the game since Vanilla as Demonic Sacrifice later turned into Grimoire of Sacrifice) and Blood and Frost DK’s summon a temporary pet lasting a few seconds.
And if they made MM like warlock where you sac your pet to get the utility and 5% damage buff, there would be no complaints…
Thats what Lone Wolf is.
There are 2 complaints with Lone Wolf one is that MM would need to summon a Ferocity pet if no one else could Lust/Hero which is solved by giving hunters Lust/Hero without needing a pet out. The other is that players would like to choose which pet family bonuses they got instead of just Tenacity pets.
I have the best idea. Delete hero talents for hunters and go back to what it was in Dragonflight.
My MM fantasy has always been playing some kind of arcane archer or a heavy gunner, a pet in there never felt right so I always played with Lone Wolf. Now I’m forced to use an animal I don’t care about when I’d rather have no pet at all. Just let Lone Wolf act as it’s own pet in terms of the actives and passives they give. Why is this being changed to begin with? Who asked for MM pets to be taken away and replaced by permanent birds? Please just undo this whole post and leave MM as is, it’s fine.
Please don’t forget Hunter’s Mark. It’s much more unfun than steady focus ever was.
I’m excited to see the quinn/valor gameplay MM has in store. Also pls make leech actually viable on BM. It feels so bad to get leech as a tertiary as BM.
