Feedback: Hunters

This is coming from a MM hunter I will say there are some changes that look good and other make me think yall lost your minds and have no clue as to what ya doing like what do you guys mean about how MM was the odd duck by not taking a pet…that is the way we like it else wed play BM XD we are head hunters snipers a pet just gets in the way but ok ok you are taking away our Lone Hunter best be giving us some raw damage boost to compensate for that massive loss! as to how to make MM good allow us to use “Aim Shot” on the move as its our core ability and we dont often get much time to just stand still and turret even if its a talent like Icy flows from frost mage something for thought well thats my 2 cents.

My thoughts:

MM rework is something that I felt was long overdue and I’m glad we got one. The push to make aimed shot be a hard hitting ability again is warranted and welcomed. The new incentivizing of explosive shot is also a great change.

Concerns:
1: just make MM be able to use a pet. It literally can just do the spotter mark thing. It doesn’t have to be an eagle. Or just allow us to change the appearance of the pet at the stable master.
2: Hunters mark is laughably bad. Ideally, make it above 80% and below 20%, and be applied passively (I.e. mystic touch and chaos brand).
3: I’m skeptical about these auto-shot changes. It feels very weird to me that in this age of the game, we are dialing in on auto shot focused talents? That feels like a classic style talent. I understand that by reducing the time between autos, that means more potential lock and load procs, but I’m not sold on this idea just yet
4: while 2 target cleave finally being available is probably one of the most exciting things in the rework, I would like to see trick shots reworked. BM gets beast cleave meaning they only have to multi shot every so often. Why don’t we get a duration of trick shots or at least give 2 stacks of trick shots or something.

Overall. I’m pleased and excited to try these changes out

Forced pets are bad, Blizzard.

You’re forcing MM to have a hawk, and taking their original pets away.

And you’re changing Pack Leader to force you to have a bear, boar, and wyvern.

People play Hunter because they want their own pets, not something they cannot choose.

Starting to think these changes are being forced to stop people from playing their Hunters, personally.

It’s all bad.

says you. I’m excited for pack leader.

this is something of a nitpick, but a new player should be at least aware of specs after doing exile’s reach. in the “faction city tour” portion there’s a quest that has you talk to a class trainer and ask them about specializations

but yeah, it’s odd for it to be level 13. i don’t know why they keep doing this; survival is currently in a kinda-sorta similar boat and can’t pick up any melee abilities until level 12. these kinds of core changes should be in at level 10 so that when you pick a spec, you’re actually getting that spec’s experience and not just playing Baseline Hunter Plus for a few levels

(i know the level wasn’t your main point but i’m not gonna weigh in on pet vs eagle because, well, i don’t play MM myself)

im playing MM hunter because i like shoot people from long range. big hits big crits. i hate pets just for MS effect.
loved new changes.
please make petless UH DK too please.

Petless Unholy DK would make room for a necromancer class

Another thought I had is for more interaction with Kill Shot.

New talent- Killer Accuracy: Damaging an enemy with Aimed Shot increases the damage of your Kill Shot against that target by 2%. This effect stacks.

New Talent- Killing Blow: Kill Shot has a 20% chance to proc Lock and Load.

This would allow for BIG kill shots the longer a target is alive. And pressing Kill shot is going to feel good if it can give lock and load

I do not play hunter. I have never really liked any of the specs during any iterarion.

That is ok, it is not for me. However, hunters are a pet class. They are known for their pets. Taking the choice away from them having one is just stupid. Warlocks can sacrifice their pet for more damage, but it is a choice. Choice is good. If people want to use a pet as Marksmanship, let them. It is their class fantasy and a staple of their entire class.

This is just bonkers.

Which is it? Remove everything from pet or keep the basic abilities that will do dmg making pet “mandatory”?

Or instead of make Improved Eagle talent point a choice node with the 2nd option being eagle = stable pet and same exact text. Now everyone happy

Not sure if this is the right place to put this or not, since it’s not a direct quote from the OP, but from the 11.1 development notes about hunters:

“New Talent: Solitary Companion – Your pet damage is increased by 35% and your pet’s size is increased by 10%. Choice node with Animal Companion.”

PLEASE DO NOT make the pet’s size increase by 10%. If going BM with one pet is the only solution for all the roleplaying MM hunters who are sad to lose their pets… we’re sure as heck not going to want those pets to suddenly become bigger.

Also, on a personal note, I am a gnome and I always use the glyph of lesser proportions to help my pets not seem ridiculously huge (and some of them still are anyway). I would love to just run around with my solitary companion of reasonable size. Will the glyph still make them smaller than normal (and thus reasonable for a gnome), or will it just cancel out the 10% enbiggening? Or will it be bugged like how the BM 2nd companion never goes to lesser proportion until you hit mend pet?

I also personally liked the wailing arrow talents. I wish those weren’t removed entirely but maybe just redesigned. I like the idea of every X aimed shots, getting a super buffed one. Maybe we just get that instead. After casting 5 Aimed Shots, your next Aimed Shot is replaced by Windburst or something?

I am very much looking forward to testing Marks, finally archery is being put into the Hunter class.

I can’t argue as a M+ player, or a raider. I can only argue as someone who enjoys class fantasy and open-world game play. Please, please, PLEASE do not remove MM access to standard pets. Make it a choice if you must to satisfy the endgame players this change is created for. But for the rest of us, taking away our abilities to choose what pet we want to use in the open world destroys immersion and spits in the face of all of the work we’ve done getting these pets. There are race pets we can no longer use and pets that we worked for in questlines on that specific character that will be taken away (and make no mistake, it is ‘taken away’). Our own personal flavor pets that aid in our enjoyment of the game will be gone (like a goblin that only uses mechanical pets or an undead that only uses insects).

I see many people saying those of us against removing pets are just ‘whining’ and ‘being salty’ and I say again: it’s not about the numbers for us (for those of us, I should say, who don’t want to lose our pets for this reason. I’m not speaking for ALL MM hunters). It’s not about M+ or raiding. It’s about our hunters forming a bond with one pet we call on when we need assistance. It’s about an engineer who didn’t want to kill any pets, so he built his own (mechanicals) that fight when he asks. It’s about the Zandalari who worships Rezan and has a raptor assist her. This argument is not because we’re ‘frustrated’ about pulling out pets or ‘confused’ about how Lone Wolf works. It’s about class fantasy, immersion, and enjoyment of gameplay.

There is too much of the eagle integrated into the rest of the tree for that to make any sense at all. Yall are literally just spamming what could be a productive thread with emotional drivel.

Oh the irony. I need to deal with it. But you pet wanting casuals dont

Blizzard, this is the kind of person your decision is appealing to. If you want to drop back to sub numbers of Shadowlands, go ahead with more decisions like this.

Blizzard going back to the drawing board would be extremely productive. The eagle is a non-starter.

The conversation has overwhelmingly been about MM and pets. But man this needs addressing as well. Because it is just as tone deaf. What special bond are you talking about?? These pack leader changes are adding three random pets I did not tame. I have no special bond with them! Pack leader is a cool fantasy. So let me lead my own pack! Not this stand in one!

This repeated trend of saddling hunters with generic animals is getting ridiculous. It was one thing with BM and dire beasts. Being able to befriend any animal fits for them. But then we got the completely night elf specific owl with sentinel. Cool if you’re a night elf I guess. Too bad if you’re anyone else. And then the dark hounds for dark ranger. Which sure, suits the hero spec. But that hero spec is also very race specific to elves. And now we’re just borrowing Rexxar’s pets. It is just making hunters so bland, so impersonal, and just more and more unappealing.

i’ll play that first in ptr then i write something, but looks great so far!
looking foward to play it.i do not really liked micro managing my pet (he is still on passive)
ty for your work dudes and dudeness!
and that mount…come on…like…really

There are better options.

Remove the spells like Blood Lust.

Add a 3-5% damage debuff to the hunter for having it out.

Or keep lone wolf as it is.

Many of us have been playing this class for years or decades (I have been playing since release in 2004) with this hunter as my first and main character. And my pet has been with me since day 1 and been there for every event and achievement I’ve had along the way.

Taking away the pet might as well be entirely removing the class for me and for many others.

Don’t tell me to play BM or SV. BM is nowhere near as engaging of gameplay for me. I’ve tried and do not have any fun playing BM. Bestial Wrath, barbed shot, kill command, repeat and weave in some cooldowns…. Boring. And I have a pally if I want to melee.

I enjoy playing MM. i did not like Sentinel Owl as a talent. Only used it as a heroic spec because it was all passives until you fixed Dark Ranger, which has a dire beast still. And not interested in some eagle thing doing whatever.

I want to keep my pet as MM and enjoy another 20 years of WoW like Chris said at Blizzcon last year. This makes me want to call it a career if it goes through.
