Feedback: Hunters

I do way more dungeons and delves than I do raiding, and I use lust there when I have a ferocity pet out, but it is far from necessary. Trueshot exists, has a shorter cooldown, and no 10 min satiety penalty. You get lust once a delve, at most, and I’ve cleared 11s without using it at all. Sure, it’s always nice, but in no way does it affect most player’s gameplay to not have one 40 second haste buff every 10 minutes. That’s just an absurd proposition.

To put it another way, you get marginally more convenience in very niche circumstances at the expense of the entirety of the rest of MM players losing a ton of utility, setting aside the fantasy/attachement concerns. It’s a wholly asymmetric trade. It benefits your preferred playstyle at the expense of everyone else’s.

Honest question, in a tier 10 delve, where three zekvir empowered elites can’t be pulled separately, and Brann will break any trap for you, how are you DPSing those mobs down without face tanking and kiting all around the map, running into other mobs along the way? Also, assuming you are that leet of a player that you can, surely, surely, it is not easier for you to pull that off than using a pet to tank as the class was designed. Surely it isn’t worth all the mob management hassle and kiting and trapping and running and frenetic multi macro mashing … for 40 seconds of haste every 10 minutes, when trueshot is right there on a sub 2 minute CD. Yea, it might be possible, but how on earth is it worth it? Having a spotter, whether my pet or an eagle.generic01, doesn’t address that.

Giving lone wolves their very own lust would. I have no idea why we’re even talking about this. Removing pets from a hunter. FFS.

I know this would be a good deal of tedious work on the part of the devs, but how about adding some new slots to the stable UI. Have one that’ll only fit flying beasts for MM, and a few that’ll be the Packleader’s Charger, Swooper, etc. That would let people still tame and use their own animals, but won’t mess with the mechanics they’re trying to implement.

And, like, give MM the option to have the “Eagle” swoop down and be summoned next to the hunter like a regular pet to keep it hunter-pet bond they love to talk about. And just have it swoop up when entering combat.

Don’t cast lust then. There are many dungeon groups that don’t have it. Or have a pet out if it’s important to you. OR enjoy the extra 5% constant dps throughput that lone wolf gives you and understand it’s a tradeoff between more baseline dps and more burst dps. Again, this purely a marginal convenience factor for your preferred playstyle, whereas it would completely break mine. Weighing impacts, there is zero reason to make in mandatory that others play without a pet.

I lose utility. Period. End of story and it is absolutely wild that your solution to you sacrificing utility to gain dps is for you to get BOTH, and for me to lose one. My pet tanks elites that would 3 shot me. My pet gathers spread out mobs so I can AOE them. My pet distracts mobs when I want to loot an interactable or run past mobs and then FD. Regardless, reworking talents to fix your “I want it all” issue does not require that I lose mine, it’s a false choice.

Your fantasy is improved by uncontrollable RNG. Mine is not. There is zero justification what Blizzard should prioritize yours over mine. That is not a reason to force this on others. It is a reason to keep it optional.

so, you are saying they didnt need to make any changes, according to you isnt necessary, and it was all about people choice?

If you dont want to use pets you can get lone wolf or switch class :call_me_hand:t5:

So, change was needed, since people could CHOSE to have a pet or not, now selfish people want both options to be removed for a lame bird.

What a moronic idea.

If i want a eagle scout i summon one that i tamed

That makes NO SENSE to be the identity of MM and is laughable that 1.blizzard is trying to force it, 2.people are gobbling up just because is new and shinny

I am still taking the stance that I am going to wait and see what its like on the ptr before I start crying about the sky falling. They aren’t going to make any changes until after it is out, anyway. This is just sad.

With that said, I have been playing hunter since the launch of blood elves, and it has been pretty much my only class. I do not play just the spec. I play whichever I feel like playing in the moment unless the dps is just atrocious compared to another. In DF I specced MM out of Lone Wolf just for the fun of it.

I like the idea of the changes that are being proposed. I think, however, that MM could probably use a bit more crowd control than it currently has if its going fully petless. That said, I think the easiest course of action is to keep everything the same as it currently is proposed, except add the ability to call a pet of choice who’s only function is to taunt and hold aggro, with minimal dps. It feels to me like that is counter to the vision of the devs, but it can help the many people on this thread that cannot play the spec without an animal buddy holding everything off of them.

Yes. They actually should do that. Instead of continuing to remove specs playstyles that players like, just add more specs.

Outlaw should have been a 4th spec and kept Combat alive. Melee Suvival should have been a 4th spec called Pack Leader (which means MM could have more easily been moved to petless, since we’d still have 2 ranged pet specs).

Instead of removing options from players, they should add more options for players. The only reason they don’t is “reasons”.

The problem with this stance is that i dont need to wait to see the sky did “fall”

They straight up removed the option to have my own pets and substitute with a lame bird, there was no compromise nor thoughts put to this, if we “wait” we will see this travesty go trough and nothing will change until the next expansion.

The fix was pretty simples → Make lone wolf an active ability, you press lone wolf button, it automatically unsumon your pet, and you gain its family skills

Meaning:

  • If you have a tenacity pet, you active lone wolf - it dismiss your bear and you gain fortitude of the bear and endurance trainning.
  • If you have a Cunning pet, you active lone wolf - it dismiss your raptor and you gain pathfinding and Mastercall.
  • If you have a feoricty pet, you active lone wolf - it dismiss your wolf and you gain Bloodlust and Leech

Done, easy fix, keep mortal wounds to aimed shot so we are not forced to have a mortal wounds pet and we are great

Take inspiration from grimoire of sacrifice from warlocks, the fix was RIGHT THERE all this time they decide to BREAK the wheel instead of reinventing it.

I like the changes so far. I only play MM in competitive content, so I never used a pet anyways. When I do trivial solo content I usually play BM since it’s brain dead and you can watch Netflix on the 2ns monitor. Playing MM doing quests made never sense. Why would you want to stand still casting Aimed Shot if you can play BM?
So if people love their pet so much, there are 2 other specs that can use one.

If you never used a pet anyway why it matters to you? LOL

You like sole by the fact it screw other people over?

It baffles me that you are even tempting to make this argument

Imagine saying playing one spec of the game in the game doesnt make sense.

Because is cool and fun for me? what rubbish

I’m sure, 500 posts into the thread, this will be the “you can just play Beast :)” post that will make people feel like that’s an acceptable option. It’s never worked before, but surely this time it will!

Looking forward to trying out the MM changes. Will abilities like “Fetch” still work with the Eagle pseudo pet?

Hey Blizz, how about you not only NOT take my beloved hunter pet that I’ve used for 15 years, matches my playstyle and fantasy, brings me joy, coordinates with my character, gives me the flexibility to play the game my way and adapt situationally, but also you give mages back their water elementals and warlocks back their observers too while we are at it.

I don’t know who decided that it would be a good idea to start limiting people’s fantasies in an MMO RPG game (emphasis on RPG) where we log in to creatively exist in this realm with our characters being customizable extensions of ourselves. You frequently use the argument of wanting classes to be easily visually identifiable but then let every class run around in a murloc onesie so that entire argument is garbage.

Stop trying to euthanize our pets at every corner and give them back, you monsters!

500 posts of the same handful of people make the same complaints.

No, its a damn glorified visual buff effect, that sometimes will fly out do something and buzz off

and the same people trying to dismiss the complains but talking about playing BM

Exactly the point.

Just a heads up: the complaints will keep coming until they backtrack this change;

As long as people know it doesn’t matter I am cool with people complaining. The devs are on holiday now and we will see this hit the ptr before any meaningful changes occur to address the complaints here.
