Feedback: Hunters

Assuming the patch goes live on Feb 25th, the PTR will stay up for at least 3 weeks. Also, it’s very common for last-minute bug fixes and balance changes to happen via hotfix on patch day. Patch weeks also usually have multiple maintenance days to fix serious issues, and there’s usually one final big hotfix on the following week in preparation for the new season’s start.

As such, there’s still 5 weeks, if not more, for Blizzard to iron out major issues with the spec.

Not saying it will go live perfectly, of course, but at least the worse bugs should be fixed, and balance changes keep coming even after the patch.

Dark ranger still has bugs from its rework currently active in live

I think it’s worthwhile at times like these to take a step back and look at the big picture of your project. All of the fixes required to pets at this point are hard coded conditions to make them not do the things that you specifically coded into the spec when you had the intention of completely removing the pet. It’s not that that work is hard or impossible, I just can’t imagine doing it and feeling like it makes sense.

Sometimes you really do just need to scrap an idea at this stage instead of trying to layer on more and more short term solutions to core problems that you created at the beginning.

The most fun I’ve had on MM was about equal for two versions. Loved when Sniper Shot felt like a Sniper Shot (long cast, hit like a truck), and right after Sniper Shot was nerfed when all that awesome damage got moved to Rapid Fire and Aimed Shot.

Since then on live, they reduced overall MM damage in several ways and I find myself only logging in to max out travelers log progress.

I didn’t want pets removed, but pets being removed wasn’t a huge inconvenience. I’m fine with MM now having a pet again for 11.1, but the rest of the spec needs to function.

With enough bug fixes eventually I’ll know if the design changes are something I could enjoy playing. To enjoy playing it for me would require it to feel stronger.

11.1 MM introduced many more ways to fail to properly execute your rotation, but if it is done properly I want to see appropriate results for the effort. If MM is made harder to play while doing similar damage than in 11.0.7, it is a failed rework.

P.S. fix Trueshot, it is hard to notice the damage increase it offers in pvp as Crit has a pvp nerf.

Hello,

I hadn’t played on live for a month, logged in yesterday, and MM felt “overpowered”.

Yes, the rotation is more boring for sure, but man, when you activate Trueshot it’s getting crazy… black arrows, aimed shots, you name it…

Back to 11.1 PTR and the spec feels “subdued”. I press Trueshot - nothing happens.

Also, as said by others above, the more complex rotation is cool and all, but there should be a reward for pulling it off, especially in PVP where people stun and micro CC you on all important abilities and maintaining a perfect PVE rotation is hard.

I really hope for a big PTR update this week with real fixes - not 5% aimed shot damage and such.

Do you want ultra fast trueshot windows with high burst and do no dmg outside that window or rather have a less impactful trueshot and a strong spec overall?

Cut the cooldown in half. Make feathered frenzy and tensile bowstring baseline effects.

The reason that ptr marks is so far behind in tuning is not because it’s spells don’t hit hard enough. RF hasn’t changed. Aimed shot with peak mods is a tactical nuke. Black arrows with full mods are also tactical nukes.

What happens is that you run out of charges ~20-30 seconds after your trueshot window ends which leaves you with a significant amount of deadtime where very little damage is coming out relative to when you had charges. The most important element of trueshot now is the fact that it gives you charges back on your spells, not the extra crit or reduced cast time on aimed shot.

To tune the spec properly around 2m trueshot, base spells are going to have to go from tactical nukes to h-bombs. If you take trueshot to 1m, you remove the need for as much +damage to base spells that already hit hard, and you remove a ton of dead time from the flow of the spec’s rotation. This option makes a lot more sense to me than anything else. Taking the 2m trueshot route with h-bombs as aimed shots will cause a lot of problems in m+ and arena where you’re going to have more built in resets for your charges vs. raiding content more specificially tailored around longer individual fights.

They could give something like a 1.5 min CD and count on the CD reduction effect of Spotter’s mark to further reduce the CD.

However it needs to be done in order to arrive at a button press that gets used at least twice as often. You could take some duration away and put it in the bestial wrath/colossus smash cooldown ballpark. You could make it exactly one minute and keep its full duration. Either would work, the designer just needs to understand where the value from that button actually comes from now, and it makes a lot more sense for you to be able to use it a lot more often in lieu of how significant your dead time is once you run out of charges.

Maybe down the road marks gets a proper 2m cooldown again, like how bm eventually got cotw on top of bw. Trueshot needs to be thought of as that same type of rotational cooldown is the point.

Completely agree!

Trueshot turned from a big burst CD to a rotation flow CD and the cooldown needs to be adjusted accordingly

Hunter’s Mark still garbage raid buff, fix it.

Also Multishot baseline for beast mastery

burst is much more often an asset versus consistency

  • HUNTER
    • Beast Mastery

      • Dark Ranger

        • Black Arrow damage increased by 10%.
      • Pack Leader

        • Pack Leader Bear damage reduced by 20%.
    • Marksmanship

      • Trueshot now increases your critical strike damage by 20% (was 10%).
    • Survival

      • Mongoose Bite damage increased by 30%.

      • Raptor Strike damage increased by 10%.

      • Wildfire Bomb damage increased by 10%.

      • Pack Leader

        • Wyvern damage bonus increased to 15% (was 10%).

That Trueshot change is embarrassing. Whoever on the team made that change should be embarrassed. Genuinely shameful that this is going to go live in its current design state.

Trueshot is saved, brothers!!!

Don’t take the chance of them not understanding that you’re being sarcastic. Nothing about this button warrants a two minute cooldown any more. It needs either completely different effects or a way reduced cooldown. The spec would legitimately feel a lot better if you didn’t have so much deadtime when charges run out. I don’t see why this is not obvious to them.

On a totally irrelevant note, I had halted my personal challenge for a while, but this weekend I finally beat Kriegval’s Rest level 11 as Lone Wolf. No pet summoning at all, no potion usage either (it was not part of the challenge, but I ended up not needing them).

The key is to use Redirect on Brann and set him as healer. Redirecting to before the fight starts is not reliable at all, but pulling with something like Concussion Shot or autoattack and then use Misdirection on Brann makes it more likely to succeed.

I was able to beat the delve with only one life lost, and even my single death was due to a stupid mistake on my part during the kobold waves just before final boss.

Victory! The pet is back!

Big undocumented changes:

  • the real pet and eagle no longer interfere in terms of passives; fortitude of the bear/master’s call from real pet no longer usable
  • consuming 2 stacks of precise shots gives 2 stacks of streamline (not sure if intended) but this makes the bottom left talent practically required
  • aspect of the hydra somewhat fixed on single target, but sometimes still broken

This week’s updates:

I think it’s fair. It’s not as useful as it appears, since you either have to get the lucky extra stack of Precise Shot from Aimed Shot or take the talent that makes Rapid Shot reward Precise Shot in order to build stacks before using Aimed Shot. The thing is thar Rapid Fire already gives Streamline, so spending both Precise Shots at once wastes a Streamline stack.
