If only we could bring back the spirit of 5.4 Survival- Lock and Load symphony of Explosive Shots, numbers filling screens, fire everywhere- good times.
I still remember to this day my last battleground as survival before legion prepatch… thinking “i’ll never have this playstyle again” and it turned out to be true
Different stables too please.
The thing that pisses me off the most is how dire beast either summon random beasts or your entire stable, which aesthetically isn’t always cool.
would be good to mark which ones you want to be used for dire beat, or make a glyph that copy your current active pet
Shell Cover is still bad, after the changes.
If you assume full uptime (which is unlikely), Shell Cover is roughly 0.7% overall damage reduction. In comparison, Sentinel’s Don’t Look Back is close to 10% overall damage reduction in PvE and 5% in PvP.
Shell Cover isn’t even better in burst damage scenarios, because you can have 10% Don’t Look Back built up for when burst comes — which would be equal to the 10% that Shell Cover gives.
My preference is to bring back Den Recovery. Short of that, buff Shell Cover or revamp it.
I will continue to update my original feedback post as usual but once again, I want to reiterate how underwhelming Hunter’s Mark is compared to every other raid buff, especially in M+. Make this buff have an AoE aura and/or work on the first and last 20% HP.
Pack Leader:
- Shell Cover is still awful; Shell Cover should grant 1% Damage Reduction per pet out plus 2-3% base Damage Reduction. What is the point of this talent activating after we already took a decent-sized hit? I’d settle on a 10% DR at 100% HP for ~6s on a ~60s CD that’s reduced by 1s per 100 focus spent or something like that but even then, it’s a worse version of Sentinel’s Don’t Look Back and it’s not an on-demand CD like Dark’s Ranger’s defensive.
- No Mercy - A single pet auto every Kill Shot is embarrassingly weak for a hero talent, this should be changed to something more impactful like a bleed interaction with Kill Shot or like the old Cull the Herd.
- Better Together - This isn’t a hero talent, it’s a placeholder node that offers no actual value and should be baked into Howl of the Pack Leader or scrapped entirely.
- Horsehair Tether should be in the class tree under Binding Shot - Hero Trees should absolutely NOT have utility and this rework seems like the start of a bad trend and sets precedent for other reworked hero trees to have utility.
- I suggested that Binding Shot did this “grouping to the center of the arrow” mechanic in the Beta feedback post several times so I’m glad to see it being implemented as Hunter gains useful group utility finally but not as a hero talent, please.
Good. Glad you guys chose to revert this change.
Now NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER think to try this again.
EVER.
It’s the third time they tried this, just FYI.
Depends, if they did the job when they set up pets properly then not much. On the other hand if they didn’t well now is as good as any time to correct it.
Lots of points have been brought up here that I agree with so I’m mostly replying to add my support.
BM Pack Leader issues/questions:
- Howl of the Pack Leader is a talent that activates 30 sec AFTER entering combat. This seems so cumbersome and will probably lead to us finding ways to quickly enter and drop combat before an actual pull just so we can activate the 30 sec cooldown, and then ask group to wait 30 seconds before we’re ready for the real pull… Oof absolutely not a fan of the current implementation.
- Shell Cover is kind of pathetic even after the recent “buffs”.
- No Mercy is also very underwhelming. It’s so situational and it just gives you a free claw/smack/bite from your main pet and that’s it? Your beasts/dire beasts can’t do that right?
- Too many AoE talents in the BM tree imo and the cost in talent points is to high to pick them all up for pure AoE build it seems.
BM Dark Ranger issue:
- Withering Fire tied to Call of the Wild, really? Is there no better way instead of making this talent basically mandatory for any DR spec? I like that it’s better than “after 3” casts of Bestial Wrath because that was also poor design but there’s gotta be a better way. Why not activate Withering Fire any time we cast Bestial Wrath and give us a 2min debuff (similar to sated) so we cannot enter Withering Fire again too soon?
Um I though what you got from having a pet out was based upon the primary pet only.
I want to also reiterate feedback of mine, edited and updated, after 2 weeks of Mythic+ and Raid testing.
-Trueshot is still extremely weak and needs help. This is the nicest way I can put it. It is the worst DPS cooldown in the game without question and there are 6 TALENT POINTS spent on BUFFING it. I genuinely notice 0 difference when it’s active on 11.1 versus now in 11.0.7
-Aimed Shot still feels terrible because streamline having RNG factors as well as waiting game makes things very rigid and not smooth or “iconic” at all. This leads to problems below as well with the rotation and focus capping and just sitting there waiting for a proc or for something to happen.
-Lock and Load is currently proccing an average of once every 1.5-2 minutes. That is just absurd. The lottery and gambling tier set is a failure waiting to happen for MM if it’s gonna be built around Lock and Load in its current state.
-The spec overall is way too RNG heavy and way too sluggish. Auto Shot has a tier set bonus and multiple talents built around it and I notice none of them having any impact.
-The amount of Haste that will be required to attempt to make things less rigid is going to be way too much than we can get next patch.
The talent tree itself is it’s own issue. A lot of bloat for no reason and a lot of things on there that shouldn’t be. Prime example
-Trueshot takes 6 talent points and you have to take all of them to make it feel like a real cooldown. Why not just throw some of that into Trueshot baseline? Bullseye (execute) used to be 2 talent points and people told you it felt bad so you made it 1 point. Now for some reason it’s back to 2 points just to remove talent points from play. This makes no sense with how bloated the tree really is. This also contributes to the below issue of talent bloat.
-There are multiple talents around explosive shot and auto shot that again, are just bloat and all do very similar things.
-I will also continue to shout from the rooftop that the tier set bonus for MM being built around pure RNG of Lock and Load is absolutely terrible feeling wise and I am expecting the tuning of it to be a mess as well. I was not a fan of the lottery gambling sets to begin with and I still am not
Can we all get on board with renaming True Shot to Depression Shot?
Because my god it feels bad to press it in its current form.
We went from… press WOOOOOOO!!! BURN BABY BURN!!! to press wait did i even press it??
Blizzard needs to come to terms that hunters were built with pets into the class. They just can’t get rid of it without breaking a lot of things or vice versa.
What they need to do is add other classes that uses ranged weapons.
I’m not sure what you’re referring to. I’m asking for each spec to have its own separate Call Pet slots so each spec can have separate pet loadouts.
I really want to see Aimed Shot as an empowered ability, maybe Twilight expansion. Empowered mechanic would work really well with aimed shot, range and damage could increased the more you empower it.
I might could get behind that if it was an instant shot if pressed and released, and then hit harder the longer you hold it. I am not sure how popular empowered abilities are, though.
I was thinking it would work like fire breath. Three tiers, tier 1 is a smaller initial hit and a long dot, tier 2 is more initial damage and moderate dot, tier 3 is Big initial hit and short dot.
Yeha, not sure how popular empowered abilities are. I kinda like the mechanic and they can talent in some instant casts like with lock & load. The cast time would reflect how long you hold down the button to empower it.
The new Howl of the pack leader change has us starting combat and being locked out from the ability for 25 seconds. It should revert to usable after you are out of combat.
My thought on that was actually to bring back the old Power Shot and make it empowered. Have it deal damage in a line, more to the first enemy hit and lesser amount to all behind it. Charging in up would lower the amount of the initial hit and increase the amount on secondary targets until it’s even at full charge. That way, you fire it uncharged in single target and fully charged in AoE.
Hail friends! It has been a long time since I’ve last shared ideas from my own wish list (a spreadsheet I’ve kept updated with desired changes since the Dragonflight Alpha, for each class and spec, even changing specs entirely (like adding a 3rd Demon Hunter spec called ‘Anguish’, making Survival Hunter a tank, replacing Augmentation Evoker with Negation Evoker, a tank)).
I’ll be brief however, to discuss Pack Leader. Its an extremely simple change, a VERY simple one indeed.
Call the Pack should instead summon one of your active pets; a Tenacity pet for the rending, a Cunning pet for the damage boost, and a Ferocity pet for the charging. If you do not have one of these pets in your active line up, it defaults to a Bear, Wyvern, and Boar as currently exists.
This would include, potentially, renaming talents; like Fury of the Wyvern to ‘Cunning Fury’, Hogstrider to ‘Ferocious Strider’, Ursine Fury to ‘Tenacious Rage’.
— Mechanical Side —
I would however enjoy some mechanical changes with this all too… such as “Enhanced Aspects” instead of Shell Cover. It would have the following benefits:
- You can now auto attack/shoot, cast Barbed Shot, Kill Command, and Raptor Strike/Mongoose Bite, while under the effects of Aspect of the Turtle (not TOTAL DPS freedom, but a start).
- You cannot be rooted during Aspect of the Cheetah and casting it frees you from all movement impairing effects.
