Not happening, pets are remaining a choice. We’re to the point where we’re debating the best way to implement the choice to be simple to implement and fair for all.
Pet talent for MM is pointless, if you want a pet, spec BM or SV, it’s breaking all the new talents, for what ? role play reasons ? lol…
It makes more sense to me that the intent is to either use a pet or pick the talent named after the pet utility you’d get if you were using a pet. Having them separated out enables doubling down on both pet family passives and abilities. If it needs to be only 2 choices, you get the last family that you summoned when you don’t have a pet out and some extra auto shot damage.
Having the choice between doubling down on extra utility or doing the burst your supposed to is a worse trade than lone wolf ever was and makes even less sense in the situations when you actually need to use the pet.
Literally yes. The whole point in the beginning was to replace lone wolf because it caused problems. We’ve now replaced one problematic talent with two required problematic talents and created the need to recode pets at a base level.
Easiest solution is get rid of unbreakable bond. Keep going with the original eagle rework, except get rid of the actual eagle visual, and have it use the pet in your first slot to do all the things. Get the best of both worlds. Keep your favorite pet and get all the benefits of the rework without giving up any damage/utility.
No, the easiest solution is to get rid of Lone Wolf and keep the pet. So much of the class is tied to the pet that dropping it from any one spec complicates everything.
But so long as they cater to the petless crowd, we will need complex solutions for a complex spec that allows for player choice.
I mean yeah, that’s what everyone has said on the last 4-5 pre expansion ptrs, myself included. Here we are in the framework of this spec refresh anyway.
Nah because that would require them to actually make new talents/skills to allow MM to actually use/interact with a pet, which would be a whole other new rework. They’ve already moved all the pet utility off the pet to the hunter in this rework, and that was the only thing that MM needed a pet for. I’m saying the easiest thing to do at this point in the rework is just change the visual of the eagle to match your stabled pet.
Minimal interactions with the pet is not an issue, it doesn’t need a spec rebuild. Live Marksman running without Lone Wolf is mechanically sound and functions perfectly fine in every regard, in every type of content. Dropping Lone Wolf requires the least amount of work to solve all the spec’s problems.
But it does not give a choice to the petless faction. Thus the need for complex reworks. Your suggestion strips choice from the pet faction while still requiring compromises and complexity in the class tree and basic abilities.
I outlined a solution above to keep everyone satisfied- pet and no pet crowds equally, addressing as many kinks and friction points as I could imagine. I’m open to other ideas how to go about it, but I’m not about to support anyone who suggests deleting the pet entirely. Blizzard has already acknowledged the backlash and walked back on that idea, I wish everyone else could do the same.
I think we are misunderstanding here. I’m not advocating getting rid of any pets. I am suggesting to integrate them with the spec and get rid of lone wolf. Currently MM and pets have no interaction and the pet only exists for utility in PvP and in the chance that lust is needed in pve. BM and SV actually use their pets. Since they’ve done this whole rework around an eagle that nobody wants, I’m saying replace the eagle with your actual pet. The one yall loved for 20 years. I don’t think that’s asking anyone to give up anything. Keeps the pets and allows them to actually be integrated in the spec while also allowing them to keep their remake and also make balancing easier.
Dear Blizzard,
I like the newest PTR update (1/23)! However, if you’ve been paying attention to this thread at all, you’ll know you just poured some more gas on the fire. It’ll never be enough for those you’re trying to appease. If you give them exactly what they want, they’ll just complain for more or for it to be implemented differently. The outcry for you to reinstate pets was met with your decision to only make them usable outdoors (great troll btw, technically give MM pets but not really). Stick to your design goals next time. You’ve been cooking lately!
I know I’ll be flamed with asinine takes for this letter as you were originally flamed for removing pets from MM. Don’t let the vocal minority make you feel like you should budge any further. The rework objectively feels great! Now bring this baby home by fine tuning how it plays and how powerful it should feel.
-A hunter
Threads continues to be hijacked by pointless, meaningless, and now moot discussions of pet so to reiterate things that are in need of actual attention soon so we can test them:
-Trueshot is still extremely weak and needs help. This is the nicest way I can put it. It is the worst DPS cooldown in the game without question and there are 6 TALENT POINTS spent on BUFFING it.
-Aimed Shot still feels terrible because streamline having RNG factors as well as waiting game makes things very rigid and not smooth or “iconic” at all.
-Lock and Load is currently proccing an average of once every 1.5-2 minutes. That is just absurd. The lottery and gambling tier set is a failure waiting to happen for MM if it’s gonna be built around Lock and Load in its current state.
-The spec overall is way too RNG heavy and way too sluggish. Auto Shot has a tier set bonus and multiple talents built around it and I notice none of them having any impact.
-The amount of Haste that will be required to attempt to make things less rigid is going to be way too much than we can get next patch.
The talent tree itself is it’s own issue. A lot of bloat for no reason and a lot of things on there that shouldn’t be. Prime example
-Trueshot takes 6 talent points and you have to take all of them to make it feel like a real cooldown. Why not just throw some of that into Trueshot baseline? Bullseye (execute) used to be 2 talent points and people told you it felt bad so you made it 1 point. Now for some reason it’s back to 2 points just to remove talent points from play. This makes no sense with how bloated the tree really is. This also contributes to the below issue of talent bloat.
-There are multiple talents around explosive shot and auto shot that again, are just bloat and all do very similar things.
-I will also continue to shout from the rooftop that the tier set bonus for MM being built around pure RNG of Lock and Load is absolutely terrible feeling wise and I am expecting the tuning of it to be a mess as well. I was not a fan of the lottery gambling sets to begin with and I still am not
Bro they broke pets with the latest update. It’s not a moot point. It’s legit jacked up.
The main choice is the eagle rework . Unbreakable bond is mainly for open world content and delves.
Taking a pet as MM will never be the right choice in group content because all the pet utilities are now tied to the hunter and the eagle .
There is no reason to get rid of Unbreakable bond , what they need is to tune other abilities that are part of the new system .
We legit have to talk about the pet now.
Is it intended to double dip on family passives and command pet or not? Is the bug that half of the command pet abilities don’t work as they should, or is the bug that half of them still work when they’re not supposed to? Are we supposed to be able to use pet ms and aimed shot ms on two targets to double dip on mortal strike debuffs? Did they understand the work required to disable all of these things if it wasn’t intended, versus the work required to just delete everything intended to replace the pet in the rework and assume everyone just uses pets?
The benefit you get in PvP from being able to use both is better than 20% on the marked target debuff. This is also more of a damage loss than lone wolf was, and it’s specific to your burst since the guaranteed mark in trueshot is so critical to your setup. We are at a worse place than where we started because now there are two talent points and more damage that you have to give up under what will inevitably be balanced around everyone else at the mean with no sacrifice in their talents again.
I also really want someone to explain to me how it is at all thematically appropriate for marks, of the three hunter specs, getting to be the one that gets to use the most pet utility of the three specs.
You’ve repeated this every time you post your bullet list. People keep telling you that Blizzard do read posts here.
And right now, the pets aren’t moot, because BM and SV also are having issues (Master’s Call).
Maybe chill it a bit with the attitude? Absolutely do keep sharing that list, but drop the rant about pets.
At this rate wouldn’t it be better to make a new thread in the PTR section so that the list would stay at the top? Just brainstorming.
I assume it’s not working as intended so the question is whether or not players on the PTR have been reporting this as a bug through the tool. That would get the attention of QA moreso than the forums.
Maybe people posting tuning and balancing feedback should just stop posting altogether since people aren’t interested in it and then when the spec goes live in a messy state people can once again complain about it underperforming and not being invited to anything. That works for me.
What’s insane is that I was having this exact conversation right before the new build dropped, and the person on this forum and discord both were making the case that since you have to spend two points on it, doesn’t it make sense that you get two points worth of benefit for it.
I don’t agree with it but it is a valid point nonetheless. I think you just have to take a step back and look at the spec refresh as a whole and ask why are we doing all of these things that are obvious problems when you could just throw the regular pet back in, assume everyone is going to use it, and figure something else out for the meantime with the space that you had designated for the utility transfer.
Like it or not, it has to be addressed again now. It’s an actual problem.
I miss the chakrim spell and hate able to find every pet there is that is getting boring hunting loqnue we should be allowed to shared pets cross characters and retail got boring
