Feedback: Frost DK

Abomination Limb was literally such a beloved talent that you decided to keep it after covenants… So what subject group is telling you that it would be a good idea to get rid of that. The reason M+ is so fun for me is because I can tell my tank that I have slappy up for the next giant pull they want to do. In specifics I can trivialize the first pull of and most of Priory (which will be in s3), so how is this not considered good utility? Never once does spending 2 GCD’s on death grips at the start of or during a pull felt as fun as just pressing Abom Limb.

Anti-Magic Zone was only fun to press when I needed it to generate runic power so I could keep my Breath going for a full 2 min. Going to give a casual perspective here with this one for group utility. I am never going to press this for group utility and waste a GCD when every class has 3 or more personal damage reduction cool downs they probably aren’t using and the healer is in cat form swiping. As for raid when there are often 4 healers with at least 8 mass raid healing cooldowns, if your argument is that they should think about inviting a DK for their AMZ then I think you are just missing the target completely. Thats not even counting everyone’s personal cd’s, pots, cookies ect and the fact that natures vigil, astral guidance, vampiric embrace are all off the GCD. So if you really want to hammer down on this AMZ then think about taking it off the global. Because lets be honest, we are playing a DK not a healer or evoker or some supporting clown. Frost DK’s are here for fat oblits, big damage, and ignoring mechanics with AMS/DA.

You are so close to finding the right aoe cleave play. The new Frostscythe is cool and feels fun to press so I like that, BUT… HOW IS IT NOT TRIGGERING EXTERMINATE!? This has to be a but right? You stated you want oblit to be used in single target and Frostscythe to be the aoe choice, yet I need to weave in oblits for my exterminate proc. C’mon devs do you even play the spec, the first pillar window I did on PTR and didn’t see my massively fun visual scythe going out was a huge red flag.

Remorseless Winter and Cleaving Strikes are close, but someone correct me if I am wrong here. Because of the new Pillar of Frost causing my Frostscythes to not consume runes, does that mean i’m not getting the extension that Gathering Storm offers which is sort of killing the entire idea here? I do like that you are trying to move away from the DnD cleave gameplay, but remember that we are now used to the 4 second remaining buff after it expires so with 2 stacks were getting an easy 28 seconds of cleave. On the PTR it feels like im only having Remorseless Winter up for around 15 seconds. We have all been asking for it and you are so close, just give a second stack of RW and then it is basically that replacement for DnD we have all wanted.

The AOE rotation now feels a bit bloated, aside from the previously mentioned “bug?” with Exterminate. The current rotation for 11.1.7 seems fine, even if we are sitting on procs to spend Oblits. Frost strike in AOE to me seems like just a filler for RP dump and generating KM procs during pillar. Now it seems as though you want us to press Glacial Advance which is another button and personally i’m just not a fan, I like 1 RP dump/generator. I also feel like you’re just adding another tuning knob with this making it harder on yourself. I like where you went with adding Frostscythe to the AOE rotation separating our single target from cleave, just take an axe to Glacial Advance.

Please feel free to tear this apart and leave comments. This is from an AOTC/resilient 14 keystone player so I am sure some of my opinions are incorrect to others. Hopefully this reaches some developers and you all enjoyed reading it or at least just want to tell me I have no idea what i’m talking about. Take care!!

Gathering Storm isn’t extending RW if you have Cyrogenic Chamber. If you don’t have that pair and still aren’t getting the extension, try copying a new character over. Rimes proc GS so free/reduced rune spenders should, so definitely report it in-game, too.

I definitely don’t agree that the AoE rotation feels bloated now (assuming they fix Scythe to trigger Exterminate) but this

isn’t a good thing.

Having 1 ability for ST and AoE is why Frost has balance difficulties in the first place. If the spec is down 5% in ST and up 5% in AoE, what exact can you buff to close that gap that won’t negatively impact the other? Splitting AoE and ST into “here’s your ST/AoE builder and here’s your ST/AoE spender” is much better for tuning because now those knobs are independent. If Frost is missing AoE burst damage they can buff Kingsbane or Rime/Northwinds. If it’s missing burst ST they can buff Rime, Shattering Blade, or Breath’s upfront damage. Doing any of these ST changes on live would also affect AoE and require additional tuning & talent changes, which is why we got tuning passes where Obliterate and FS were buffed and AA and Shattered Frost were nerfed.

Definitely the worst changes. Abomination Limb shouldn’t do any damage and just be a utility spell (it should actually just be replaced with Gorefiend’s in the class tree but whatever) and AMZ took a massive hit on everything when it should just be normalized to Rallying Cry’s strength. I’d rather have a 2min, 8% magic DR CD than a 4min 15%.

May be wrong on this but I could see something like RW being used since that’s always done a decent amount in cleave and now is sort of a “staple” for our aoe situations. FS is always a good option for single target and both of those do much less dmg in single vs aoe.

Agreed, this has to be a design oversight. But playing with Frostbane has you also weaving in those procs, just seems like a lot to me between KM, Rime and now Frostbane. Whats the priority when all 3 are up which seemed to be quite often.

I would love it if Raise Abomination would grip enemies in for me since it will be on a choice node for Legion of Souls. As for Frost, maybe they could add a talent to the big Remorseless Winter from your Pillar of Frost that vacuums enemies in with the frigid winds of Northrend or something flavorful.
