Feedback for Try Again button upon death

Right now the Try Again button simply sends you back to character selection screen. It would be nice if that button would actually reset your character (level 1, no gears, back to starting zone, etc.) without deleting it, so that would make the process of deleting character, re-create character with same appearance, re-join guild, etc. much less of a burden. Thanks!

That is a fantastic idea! To expand upon it, how about this:

  • Try again button only allowed to be pressed when you are under level 10
  • Guildmasters cannot be under 10
  • When the Try Again button is pressed, your dead character is deleted, yet the character likeness (face, hair, color, class, race, etc) and name are recreated at level 1 instantly.

This gives you a really good way to immerse yourself in YOUR character (name/likeness) while still maintaining the Hardcore aspect. The level 10 restriction is so you can’t delete a guildmaster as well as enable > level 10 to transfer out to another server if you’d like.

Thoughts?

Except you’re forgetting about the people who get to the higher levels and want to keep their characters-- free transfers to other classic servers (not sure if all of them or only the dead ones, haha) are available too.

You’d have to have two choices at the Try Again button.

They also should add a “Delete uncollected mail” button so you can actually delete your dead ghost character.

As it stands right now, if you die with uncollected mail, you just get an error message that you can’t delete your character at all, leaving you to permanently lose that character slot and character name. :stuck_out_tongue:

not permanently - just 30 days xD

Easy. Remove the mail system because you shouldnt have it in hardcore

Either go back to BsB where you already have your Addon, or use it on Official HC. Everyone’s happy. But Official HC only has 1 rule: if you die, you can’t rez. AH use is perfectly fine on Official HC.

If they don’t fix this bug, it will carry over to Official HC, where it will be permanent, eh?

no, in-game mail auto-deletes in 30 days, well unless someone will keep sending you stuff :stuck_out_tongue:

Kinda bad if you want to reuse the name.

I think the “Try again” button just logging you out is fine. If you want to rebirth a character I think it’d be better to add that functionality to the login screen.

Should read, “Go agane?”

It’s already been stated in the ptr patch notes that this is a known issue and will be fixed in a future build before official launch.

The thread is about the idea of having a faster way to get back in game with our friends, not about the issues currently happening because mail can’t be deleted.

Back on topic: maybe its fine if the Try Again button sends you back to the login screen, but we really need a way to “reset” or “rebirth” a character, which would take care of:

  • Reset the character location, level and experience, reputations, gears, honor, titles, mail, auctions, etc. to match those of a fresh new level 1 for their race
  • Preserve the character name, appearance, guild and rank

This way we avoid having to: delete character, re-create character with same name and appearance, re-join the previous guild, etc.

This removes a burden on the player, but also on the guild leaders which constantly have to re-invite dead members.

A player that wants to preserve their dead character could simply access the system menu and log out. If “Try again” (go agane) were to revert a character back to level 1 with settings/macros/appearances intact (which I think is a great idea, I’ve been looking to automate that myself as much as possible), it would definitely need a confirmation window to make sure someone that clicks that is fully aware their current progress will be lost. Also, if the “Try again” button has that functionality, it may be worth having an explicit log out button that simply sends someone back to the character select screen.

Plus 1 to the idea of the “Try Again” button having some extra functionality such as re-creating the same character appearance.

Definitely would need a further confirmation prompt if it extended as far as deleting the character, maybe with a “don’t ask again” checkbox on that confirmation prompt, or whatever.
