if you want a standard bg that lasts 10-15 minutes, then queue in the random bg queue. if you want a long bg that can last over an hour and you have the free time to spend an hour in a bg, then queue in the epic bg queue.

You asked if they had a stance I linked you a reference and you tried to pick it apart with semantics. EPIC BG’s are meant for large scale group in typically longer battles.

Longer is subjective, your mileage may vary. I have been in AV’s that last 15 minutes and I have been in AV’s that last 1 hour and 15 minutes. I don’t know what else you want someone to say?

To be fair, the players themselves are the ones who decide upon what strat to use in a match (whether it’s a rush strat, turtle strat, half-and-half strat, etc). The devs don’t “make” players choose turtle strats.

If you have an issue with turtles you can simply say so in the chat and suggest a different strat. Usually I find that the team more or less “agrees” on what strat will be used that game either in the starting cave or in the first 2-3 minutes.

Random casuals seem to respond well to spam, if you spam enough (for example spamming “defend SHB” in the starting cave) the team just might go along with your strat.

I like when AV is done properly and the match is over in a reasonable amount of time. That’s pretty much it. All the comments telling me I’m wrong and even posting a blizzard response that doesn’t even reinforce your comments is just icing on the cake.

The beauty of AV is there is no “done properly” It’s not the traditional, cap 3 flags/cap 3 bases. There is no right or wrong way to play but an intense back and forth reinforcement battle is the most fun… I love when our team comes together and loots bodies to summon the big guy aka: Ivus! Or for Horde, Lok!

I misunderstood earlier. I thought you realized epic bgs weren’t for you. You need to realize that.

-There is no “proper strat” in any bg.

-The variety of things that can happen in epics is what make them epics. 15 minutes to over an hour. You take your chances on time whenever you sign up for one.

-If you don’t have the time or willingness to raid, you don’t raid right? Same needs to apply to epics. You don’t have to do them to cap conquest.

Perhaps you liked AV for the wrong reasons, then. It’s gone through periods where it’s been a “mad race to the bosses with no resistance and whoever gets there first wins” scenario, but the recent and periodic changes should remind you that is not how AV is supposed to work.

It’s clear that these are intended to be moderate time investments.

AV really is well-rounded masterpiece, it has

  • good PvP encounters enhanced by the map (chokepoints, towers, cliffs, etc)
  • PvE features that seamlessly “tie into” the PvP (turn ins, buffs, summonable bosses, etc)
  • “just” the right size map for a 40v40 battle… not too big, but not too small either
  • multiple win conditions, so there is no “one” way to win
  • last minute “underdog” comeback wins are possible
  • can end in 12 minutes or go as long as 90+ minutes

14 years later and still no other bg can compare. Whoever designed AV needs to be put back onto the design team or something, that guy was ahead of his time for sure :thinking:

They really ought to design more bgs similar to AV, maybe they could slap together a new BFA-themed 40v40 bg? Maybe they could re-purpose a Warfronts map/Island Expedition map as an epic bg? It seems a new 40v40 bg would pair well with the “war” theme of BFA :thinking:

It’s been a while since we got a new 40v40 bg, the last 40v40 we got was Ashran… and that’s 2 expacs ago at this point.

Anyway, AV is now as it’s going to be for the foreseeable future; An EPIC bg and not some overgrown race to some PvE boss.
