Feedback: D.R.I.V.E

I had been testing in PTR for several weeks, even till today I still have not figured out how to gather all the upgrads and what exactly the final version of this feature will be.

Suggestions :

  1. You got to let the players taste the full function with some kind of trial run when the player first getting into undermine, it should be the first quest to do there.
  2. A clear upgrade map should be presented to the player from the NPC located in the Inn when simple quest directing the player to check in.
  3. Simpify the materials required to do all the upgrades, if you want the user to use such function, forcing them to gather drops from everywhere is just not making any sense, this is not a mount that the user should spend time to farm for.
  4. With all these extra things and improvements that you will do, I expect there will be still a large amount of players really hate this new feature. Do you have any plan B that will allow the increase of speed for regular ground mounts in this zone? I am even OK for some extra quests or even drops if thats all it will take.

After the changes from today, I noticed drifting sometimes gets cancelled for no reason. This seems to happen more often when driving over small obstacles, like curbs.

Edit: The bug when your character automatically spins after dismounting still exists

  • Fixed a set of issues affecting players after dismounting, including a bug that could cause the player to unintentionally spin around and a bug that could cause players to turn slower than usual.

D.R.I.V.E. has definitely improved, but I’m still overall not a big fan of it. Here are the major things that stick out to me:

  • It’s still way too hard to stop.

I get that it’s a momentum based driving system, but not being able to stop effectively means that the cost of control is too high in comparison to the benefit of speed/drifting.

  • The sound of the car still sounds like a weak lawnmower.

A solid beefy motor sound would go a very long way to make D.R.I.V.E. feel fun.

  • Undermine is a very small, crowded place

I don’t think there’s much that can be done about this at this point, but not having the space to really drive around really lead to a feeling of claustrophobia when trying to handle a vehicle that just wants to go fast and not stop.

I’m a big fan of the recent changes. The bouncing off terrain makes it feel more forgiving while learning. Sure, you still lose your boost if you drive straight into a fence, but you can go right back to driving on track instead of wasting another 5 seconds trying to get unstuck. So big thumbs up there.

My only complaint at this point is the drifting controls. Still not sure why drifting can’t just be its own keybind separate from jumping.

Also I think making the default engine/wheels be the slowest variant is a good change as well, but it seems odd to have the other configurations locked on the PTR after this update, so we can’t really test them without unlocking them first… Unless I’m missing something here?

In the latest new PTR build:

D.R.I.V.E.

  • Wheels now animate when you use a Boost and at a standstill.
  • Fixed some unintended behaviors that occurred while attempting to drift while falling.
  • Fixed a bug related to the Breakneck acting as though it’s falling when it’s really only going over small obstacles.
  • Fixed an issue with Drift, when falling short distances, that would cause players to instantly lose drift. Drift now only cancels on longer falls and resumes upon landing.
  • Fixed an issue that would lead to persistent strafing and could occur when certain key-combinations were pressed while dismounting.
  • Fixed an issue with drift that could lead to Drift key being temporarily sticky and not disengage until stopping.
  • Fixed some rare instances of disconnection related to jumps and falls while on the G99 Breakneck.

to me its been mostly fine since the bounceback was added
i dont want to run things over tbh thats some xbox live kiddy crap

I would love to see longer stretches of road where we can get some high speeds for longer than a few seconds, even a real race track. And I’m shocked we dont have any big ramps.
