Feedback: Class Sets in The War Within Season 2

Prot Warrior/raiding.

That proc rate in a 5-6min fight is like 5-4 times! That isn’t very good, especially since the ‘so-called SW’ from it is w/e as I can’t have my major CD with RNG proc w/e time.

It would need to be something impactful and something to fish for, not something that happened when you played and you have no noticed it.

Reported it using the in-game bug report tools ~1hr after PTR went up, but apparently those don’t get read. Unholy’s 4-set still doesn’t work properly. Winning Streak is being consumed during Dark Transformation. Can we please get a fix for this? It has made gauging Unholy’s tuning, or even giving feedback on the set near impossible.

They do get read, might just be hard to fix but I reported the maelstrom weapon consuming winning streak bug and it was fixed in these patch notes.

But that is exactly why PTRs (and betas) need to last longer than they do, especially with bigger changes coming to classes. Devs are actually listening and iterating based on feedback after 20 years and they only get 2 months to do it for PTR and like 5 for beta or something, that is not enough time even without bugs, but with bugs causing testing to be not as useful for weeks at a time its not even close to long enough.

BDK 4 set IBF proc overwrites a intentionally casted IBF causing a reduced overall duration.

Same goes for Protection Warrior instead of increasing the already existing SW.

i would honestly just scrap these entirely. when something is this minimal, it really doesnt even make sense to be there.

Even with these changes and the attempted fixes, surprise, these sets still suck imho. Rng to start it, rng drops it to build up the next stack.

How these sets passed internally to even see the light of day is beyond me.

All warrior set bonuses feel awful gameplay wise.

This is going to be such a lame tier unless the Winning Streak! nonsense is fixed, but I don’t want to get my hopes up since you’ll just double down on crap design choices.

Hopefully you do much better when it comes to S3’s bonuses.

The reworked Frost set feels much better. The 2p feels much more intuitive. The 4p providing a bonus for losing Winning Streak! makes the set feel closer to what feels intended for the melee DPS sets. It’s a nice passive bonus, but I’m not sad if I lose the bonus because losing it gave it something that feels just as good. Haste is not a particularly desirable stat for Frost, so I’m not sure why it’s there, but free stats are free stats.

Overall, I remain apprehensive about Winning Streak! as a core set concept. It introduces another layer of RNG to a spec that has too much. It’s hard to say this set will offer any meaningful playstyle changes by itself. There is no skill expression in hoping you get lucky and land a 125% Frostscythe at the right moment. The most generous thing I can say about the set’s playstyle is that it will make Shattering Blade and Riders more competitive by the sheer power of the Frost Strike buff it provides. The ST buff to Frostscythe is a nice touch, but it does not change that this tier set is fundamentally another layer of RNG passive cleave added to a spec overloaded with RNG and passive cleave.

Some specific tuning feedback

To get a rough idea of the tier sets power level, I ran sims using overrides to disable and enable tier bonuses on the same gear set.

Almost all power resides in the 4p. Deathbringer Breath of Sindragosa saw only a 1.6% increase when equipping the 2p, but gained an additional 12.3% with the 4p. Shattering Riders sees a 3.2% increase when equipping the 2p, and a massive additional 18.5% with the 4pc.

There’s an obvious build preference, but given how much Rider struggles to see play, I think the preference is warranted. My only concern on tuning at this time is that we will likely prefer to wait until we can equip all 4 tier pieces.

This is not true. The Prot Pally tier is very interesting as it creates a frenetic playstyle when it procs that encourages massive and CDs during it.

Druid’s 4p is thematic, but ignorable as just “extra damage”.

The rest suck.

Restoration Druid

M+

I feel like the 4-Set for Restoration druid needs an overhaul. It is the only healer tier set that doesn’t give you a guaranteed chance to get insurance. (Disc priest gives it through shields, Evoker’s through Verdant Embrace, Paladins through Divine Toll, etc.)

There are 3 major issues

1)Tying it to lifebloom, which basically forces us to use the Undergrowth talent(Double lifebloom).

2)Tying it to the BLOOM of Lifebloom means that people won’t get it at the beginning of the pull(Which is usually the most dangerous part since all the mobs are alive)

3)Making it so that it is a CHANCE to proc.

If we are going to keep it attached to Lifebloom then it should be a guaranteed proc, even at reduced effectiveness.

The universal clamoring (myself included, this set is trash for BDKs) for change, and the inclusion of only one blue post for one class who has been receiving a SIGNIFICANT amount of attention for this patch already…

… really highlights the need for a community manager(s) who’s sole purpose is to speak up instead of letting this dead air sit and us to come to our own (usually less favorable) opinions.

Cuz y’alls gonna be losing people before the season is started. Get somebody in here to communicate, and frankly, start triage.

About “Your Winning Streak! is always removed once it reaches max stacks.” - there is a risk to lose all stacks when capping them out, this claim should be removed.

For resto shaman, rather than tie the 4 piece to healing rain I’d like to see it tied to healing stream totem/cloudburst totem. Most of the time in M+ there will only be 1 or 2 people inside healing rain. It will basically just proc on the tank most of the time.

Healing rain being tied to tier set is also awful for pvp and it seems to happen every patch. Ideally resto should have their tier tied to something other than healing rain, like you said healing stream/CBT would be fine or even earthliving weapon or something interesting other than healing rain lol.

CM probably can do only so much as they need information to pass along from the devs. The devs need to step up to the plate.

You have to play the game to understand why these sets are bad to play and not fun.

unholy dk’s tier has not been working since the launch of ptr, which renders any testing useless. Please fix this, so you guys can have accurate data to look at unholy’s performance

Neither has Brewmasters 4pc. Its still bugged and all the stacks are consumed on hit of Blackout Kick with Shadowboxing Treads, when it should be on cast of Blackout Kick.

Got to do some testing for the Arms Set bonus in PvE.

Legitimately I couldnt tell when my Winning Streak Ended (4P) and couldn’t take advantage of the reduced Cooldown and amplified damage of Overpower. An audio que would be great otherwise its something that will need to be tracked via WeakAuras. However with current tuning you’re never going to go out of your way to take advantage of your 4 set, as pressing Mortal Strike, Cleave, or Execute is more important (A major goal for Arms in 11.1).

The 2P was fine, but again there was nothing to play around.

1 - It’s a shame that it took almost 4 weeks for the affliction tierset to start working, and it still does not function properly.

I say this with a sorrow in my words, in the past i could have a sense of trust in Blizzards quality, but the TWW Beta and now this 11.1 PTR make me question the future of the franchise if this is the quality of work are we to expect.

Currently it does not amplify the damage of Unstable Affliction, it also does not spread Unstable Affliction on target dummys only on actual enemy npc’s.

2 - Demonology Tierset needed a nerf, but i think reducing it’s proc-chance is the wrong nerf.

Nerfing the Demonology Tierset to become a 0.5 Proc per Minute + Haste on it’s [2] bonus is a mistake.

Demonology Thrives in the visual effects of its pets, people enjoy seeing their pets spawning and by reducing the frequency of how many events happen does make the tier-set also visually less interesting.

It’s important to notice that the [2] Bonus have a efficiency multiplier on it, who could have been used to adjust the power of the [2] as necessary if the aim is to make the [2] less powerfull.

Additionally, it’s important to note that the [4] could have been adjusted instead, specially given some considerations to the rotation that it might happen like 1-sharding.

One exemple, the [4] could have been changed to instead of triggering a Hand of Guldan at 60%(1shard), 70%(2shard) and 80%(3 shard) efficiency, it could instead trigger at 20% (1 shard), 40% (2shard) and 60% (3shard) efficiency this would be around a significant nerf, maybe even more impactfull than the current one as it would reduce the damage from both [2] Greater Dreadstalkersbut also from normal Dreadstalkers, and reducing the amount of Dreadbite events that happen as you need 3-shard HOGS instead of 1-shard HOGS.

Additionally, this change would mean Demonology will not be caught casting 1-shard Hands of Guldan mid rotation based on a Weak Aura who counts how many Dreadstalkers you have active to be “optimal”, as “3-shard HOG” is always the optimal way to spend Hand of Guldan Shards.

3 - The Destruction Tierset Nerf approaches this in a mistaken way

Like i have already reported, the Destruction Tierset have the problem that the version triggered by Infernal scales with Haste in a way that results in more than 12 bolts being shot.

This issue still exists, but now instead of it shooting 24 bolts (instead of 12) it now shoots 12 bolts (instead of 6), this issue is amplified by Demonfire Mastery making it add 4~6 more bolts.

This change did reduce the impact of the Jackpot proc with Infernal, but alongside it, it also drastically reduced the effectiveness of the normal Procs and any synergy that may exist with Raging Demonfire duration increasing effect to immolate.
