Feedback after Primordial Wave buffs (Elemental)

The buffs to Prim Wave made it feel much better in pvp. Think it ends up doing more damage than before in PvP even, especially if Elemental Unity is taken due to modifiers. However, there is still a couple improvements that could be made to Prim Wave and Prim wave gameplay that give it a bit more flavor and ‘better’ gameplay. If PvE’rs disagree would love to hear why and what the solution would be.

Feedback/asks:

  • Have Liquid Magma Totem apply another 1-2 Flame Shocks. Losing the Flame Shock application from Prim Wave gave us one less way to get out more Flame Shocks before Prim Wave, which actually added to the complexity of the gameplay (not in a good way) that was supposed to be “reduced”.

  • Have Primordial Wave overload/work with that part of our mastery. Having buttons we press regularly not work with Ele Sham mastery doesn’t feel good imo, overloads are such a massive part of Ele Shamans theme and it is completely unique. It ends up feeling too disjointed from the rest of the spec. Now that Prim Wave actually does damage and also generates more maelstrom, having it overload would be great in restoring its theme/flavor that was lost with Lava Burst cleave removal.
    This wouldn’t be a problem in PvP either as overload damage was nerfed heavily to reduce rng/major fluctuations in ele shamans damage and kill pressure. It would add a bit more maelstrom gen, and some damage but nothing drastic.

Edit: After seeing logs of this week it seems like Pwave still isn’t nearly as good as before in pve, which is rough. Having it overload would be a big step towards that though, and maybe it needs some pve specific buffs still?

No it just made it hit harder, it still feels like garbage.

Not sure what you’re saying here. It hitting harder is good, thats how we get kills. Hitting for 2-3 mil isn’t garbage esp when its followed up by an instant lava burst. When I said feel, I was referring to how much damage it does, which is a lot in PvP.

In terms of the gameplay of pwave its a bit bland, which is why I mentioned a couple things they could do to help that. Having it overload is the big one as that can help it get closer to how it was before via more maelstrom gen and more damage. LMT getting 1-2 more flame shock applications would also be nice to make up for losing Pwave as an applicator.

Pwave is my top 3 dmg dealer pretty often. Since I’m a little crit heavy bc I play Stormbringer the crit dmg bonus is pretty nice. I only have 1 item with mastery on it and I’m not mad about it.

They need to change it back to how it functioned before Undermine(d) reworked the spell.

Primordial Wave’s playstyle was far more fun before … Now it just feels clunky and honestly kind of depressing. lol

Yeah I dont really agree with reverting it anymore. They are close to making it better than it was before gameplay wise. If they make Liquid Magma Totem spread 4 flame shocks on drop, and then 1 flame shock every time it pulses that would fix our Flame shock spread issue. Then if they make Prim Wave overload, it’ll add some flavor back to the ability and also allow for it to do more damage and generate more maelstrom similar to how it was before (but may need an additional pve only buff not sure). This would likely play better than before if they did both of these things.

No, I still think gameplay wise it’s complete garbage.

Because at the end of the day:

  • Big numbers doesn’t automatically equal to “Good gameplay”
  • FUN gameplay is what equals to good gameplay …

For elemental spec, the version of Primordial Wave before Undermine(d) was fantastic.
The version of the spell after said-patch? It’s dog$#!% now. :unamused:

The flow of the spec, rotation and playstyle of elemental felt far better in S1 than what it’s become – Now it just feels incredibly clunky and there’s a LOT more irritable situations than before: It sucks.

There have been times my flameshock does not allow me to use Pwave (more than once) and it is really ticking me off.

I apply flameshock and my pwave is off cool down and yet, it my pwave is not available. And I think well maybe I forgot to apply flameshock? Nope, my flameshock is still counting down so i have to wait. Maybe the boss/add/npc is dead? Nope they are very much alive right in front of me.

Horrible change imo.

Agreed. 100% I hate it now. I want insta Lave Burst procs back too
