Feature Request: Retail NamePlate Distance

Can we please get the ability to change view distance on nameplates back in retail wow? I get why certain changes were made on Classic to prevent excessive view distance and the fact that Classic was supposed to be a no changes from Vanilla.

Why make us suffer on retail with the 60yd fixed distance. Thats great if thats as far away as you want us to be able to view nameplates set that as our maximum but let us be able to lower them. This wouldn’t even be an issue if Nameplates didnt show up through walls or floors above and below you. This has caused me to not even run a couple different dungeons because there are nameplates showing up everywhere.

Even if its an interface option with set levels we can pick from to view. Such as 20yd, 25yd, 30yd, 40yd, 50yd, 60yd. That way it would stop people from being able to manually edit that cvar but have set settings we could choose from.

cause people kept complaining and saying Vanilla WoW is better then modern WoW so blizz gave everyone Vanilla WoW?

I would settle for anything that stops name plates coming through the floor of Td.

Just press CTRL+V dude

Sure I can play with no nameplates but the severely cripples game play. No nameplates = no cast bars = not seeing spells being cast and if they can be interrupted or not.
If you are able to play with out nameplates More power to you but the majority of wow players use them and rely on them.

is this a troll

This comment makes no sense as if that were the case then our Nameplates would be locked at 20yds like they are in Classic. But instead in retail they locked the to 60yd with no way to make them viewable at a lower yardage.

Not quite the same thing, but there is an option to only show nameplates in combat or if they are relevant to a quest. Unticking that makes them disappear most of the time.

Where is that option? I looked in Interface and didn’t see it. I wasn’t aware of this before so that might be helpful.

Game Menu > Interface > Names > Always Show Nameplates
If it’s checked, you’ll see nameplates all the time. Leave it unchecked and they only show up in combat or if it’s a quest related mob. The rest of the time, you just see the floating names, which can’t usually be seen through walls.

Hmm For what ever reason I’ve never noticed that before. Thank you this could be helpful. Although it still doesn’t completely solve the problem. They either need to give us our ability to change view distance again or FIX NAMEPLATES that show thru floors and walls.

the addon advancedinterfaceoptions gives you the ability to adjust the name plate view distance with a slider. It also has a cvar viewer so you can change a lot of other variables in the game.

Yes and that used to work. However when people were complaining about people abusing a certain cvar command in Classic and having nameplate view distance of 100+Yds they implemented a fix and set classic nameplates to a locked 20yds at the same time they applied that fix to retail as well which locked retail nameplates to 60yds. No addon can now change that distance also even if you directly edit the cvar in the config file it still reverts back to 60yds.

I’m going to necro this thread and chime in as well. For those of us who play casters, it becomes frustrating when all the nameplates of every mob within 60 yards are displayed on your screen. I end up targeting mobs that I can’t even hit. Nevermind the fact that your screen is just filled to the brim with nameplates. I don’t understand why this was changed in retail and also request that this be changed back to the way it was previously.

Please blizzard this is so awful

what i’m understanding from this change is that the people at blizzard do not want ranged players to be able to identify targets that are within range. does anyone have a good reason for this?
