FDK changes

See how annoying that is when there’s no changes and it’s just you saying what you want? instead of that put “Frost DK changes I hope for”

Exactly… I think nobody on the development team are working with DK Frost class
It’s a forgotten class :smiling_face_with_tear::broken_heart:

My #1 want is our strong passives interacting with our optional rotational abilities.

Soul Reaper needs interaction with Obliteration and imo a really strong interaction with Icecap.

Glacial Advance needs to interact with icecap.

And Frost Scythe needs to cost 2 runes, deal more damage and to interact with obliteration buff passives like frigid executioner and might of the frozen wastes.

That’s the thing i realised. The only real issue i have with frost dk, at least at the moment is that a lot of the time, our optional rotational abilities just don’t work well enough with the rest of our kit. Glacial Advance is in the best position out of the 3 of them since it’s at least usable now on obliteration because they removed it’s cooldown. Soul Reaper being a returning part of our kit after a long time is great and all but it just doesn’t work with our rotation. Oblit can’t use it because during execute they’d rather press frost strike or rime proc HB for another killing machine proc.

Frost Scythe is in an atrocious position. For a skill benefiting from killing machine, it doesn’t get buffed anywhere near as much as obliterate and it now has to compete with obliterate being able to cleave. I think with 3+ targets, frost scythe should be out damaging obliterate since you have to spend an extra spec point just to get it, it needs to justify being picked with good performance. It’s just sad that the passive damage buff talents for remorseless do way more work in both aoe and single target when scythe was designed to be an aoe version of obliterate. It needs to do more damage, cost an additional rune and recieve benefit from the talents that buff obliterate’s damage specifically.

The issue here is that Blizzard has all but stated they want Breath to be what folks play. Obliterate build only exists to give their players the illusion of choice. Therefore, they can’t have Frost Scythe benefit from talents that buff Obliterate because that’s the build they don’t want players to be using. Instead, Frost Scythe is going to remain a talent you pick purely to get you to a quick 60 runic power on pull or if you messed up your Breath timing.

That’s a rather pessimistic way to look at things, and i get it, breath has been bis for several expansions in a row. However, I’m having a really hard time believing that anyone at blizzard actually thinks that.

I don’t have a hard time believing that. I’m a fairly simplistic dude. If Blizzard hasn’t made Obliteration viable for the past several expansions, that means they have no plans to do so.

I follow the same thought processes for every class who has been underperforming for several expansions in a row. Blizzard has the capability to improve the classes who have been at the bottom for years now. But here we are into yet another expansion where we’re seeing the usual familiar specs underperforming. Fury. Survival. Affliction. Frost Death Knight. There is no way that their supposed data that they have access to is telling them that these specs are fine when the player data we have access to say the specs needs some love.

At that point its pretty obvious that Blizzard simply wants certain classes and specializations to be better than all the rest. And you’re not going to convince me otherwise seeing as we’re at expansion number three or four that’s had the same song and dance.

alrighty then.

The problem with player data is that it doesn’t take into account player skill.

The very best players will always pick the path to gain the most power. So hypothetically say breath is 3% better. Having all the best players in the world play it will show it being significantly better than 3% as the only people picking the alternative are players who are not playing at the same level or maybe even using consumables on their character etc.

Imagine at the start of a dungeon you had a choice to pick a buff.

Buff A made you do a flat 3.5% more damage and turned you into a gnome.

Buff B made you do a flat 3.2%more damage but turned you into a goblin

After a week of player gathered data the damage difference between players picking gnome or goblin would not be .2%. The best players would always pick the highest damage possible option. It wouldn’t even be close.

2h Obliteration was viable in m+ the last two tiers in shadowlands and is currently viable now in m+. Biceps put out a great guide recently too showcasing it. Is it the best? No, but not everyone wants to be turned into a gnome.

-Glacial Advance : Make it work with Ice Cap. Been asking for this since beta.
-Cold Blooded Rage : Needs to also work with Glacial Advance.
-Might of The Frozen Wastes : Bake in a buff to Glacial Advance.
-Absolute Zero : Needs to also buff Frostwhelp damage to 3stack BFA level. Whelps do nothing but add mastery. They used to actually do awesome damage themselves.

Viable is a bit of a stretch considering Obliteration is only actually viable in low target counts. There is a reason why Bicep’s video added the disclaimer that Obliteration is only particularly viable in a dungeon like Spires, where you have fairly consistently low target counts. In a guild run most will be running Breath, and in a PuG most will likely be going for Unholy anyway, so why bring 2H Obliteration?

The issue with Breath is that it very clearly does way more damage than 2H Obliteration, to the tune of something like a 10% difference. This isn’t just a case of Breath doing slightly more damage (like your 3% example) and so people just gravitate towards breath for that 3% better damage. Obliteration is not competitive outside very niche circumstances and considering the fact that Blizzard seems to have made an effort to give most specs at least two different builds that are fairly close to each other in damage, it baffles me that they’re perfectly fine with Frost only having the one build that’s good and the other that you might swap to if you feel like screwing around.
