Over the years we have had a plethora of interviews and Blizzcons, what is your favorite quote from a WoW developer? I’ll start:
“The main character of World of Warcraft is the world” - Chris Metzen, ex- Senior Vice President of Story and Franchise Development at Blizzard Entertainment. I think this sums up the early philosophy of the game and how important worldbuilding was to the team.
Honorable Mentions:
“Frankly, that’s a skill issue” - Ion Hazzikostas, Lead Game Designer of World of Warcraft, on why there is such a large gap in power between item level 200 players and item level 220 players.
“Well, I thought it was brilliant” - Steve Daneuser, Lead Narrative Designer on World of Warcraft, on his opinion of Game of Thrones Season 8.
It’s not really a wonder that Vanilla WoW was a mess in terms of story-telling. That mindset makes sense for a game like Eve Online or New world or whatever, but Warcraft has always been a character-driven franchise.
Did Danuser actually say this? Lol. Let me guess, The Last Jedi “subverted his expectations” as well?
Funny, that comment was in regards to classic WoW and not other expansions.
Classics is dead is because BC was superior to classic so people are playing that. If they continue to dish out the expansions the prior ones will be dead, with the new ones being populated.
And it was successful, we actually did want it. The fact TBC killed Classic doesn’t change the fact we wanted it, and so many wanted it new servers had to be made. And we knew when TBC came out what would happen, and TBC is still chugging right along, so, we did.
