Favorite way to troll in Vanilla

My favorite memories from Vanilla have always been the ones that involve doing stuff that has no bearing on end game or competitive play.

Back in the day, I used to love riding the zeppelin from Org to Grom’gol on my Shaman…I would toss Water Walking on players as they jumped off the zeppelin into the water to save time upon arrival…Splat.

What were some of your favorite memories that had nothing to do with Raiding or PvP in Vanilla?

Roll a Troll.

Seeing as you can do this in Vanilla/Classic too, let me just add my little troll favorite from my TBC times!

I was really fascinated by all those pvpers constanly dueling outside of the cities gates. I was a total noob back then so they seemed like the gods of WoW PvP to me.
Sometimes i’d see just how big their egos could get, and how salty losing made some of the hardcore duelers.
I figured, if they get this salty on the alliance, they must get just as salty on the horde too…:smirk:

So… to add some spice to the godly PvPers intense dueling experiences, i parked my druid near the gates of Orgrimmar and i moonfired everyone i could who just lost a duel, taking off that last 1hp they had left instantly, and then ran for my life!!

Did they get me sometimes? …yeah.

But it was totally worth it  At some point they became too prepared and expected me to pop up somewhere moonfiring people, at which point i’d just let them forget for some time by leaving… and coming to visit again later when their guard was down, heheh. Good times.

Its so awesome that you said it this way, because I felt the same way! Particularly when I first started and these guys had amazing gear and epic mounts and just duel seemingly all day…I told myself I would be like them one day…TBC dropped before I could realize that dream.

I will never get tired of running molten core on a warlock, just to accrue extra pets with “living bomb” for prime time weekend auction house shenanigans.

The absolute greatest is when you can stack it on 2 or 3 on your pets then get the people a second or third time right as they finish their corpse run from the previous.

Fun fact, the explosion functions off your own warlock’s spell crit %

My record is 17 dead, 90,000 DPS

Not many people seem to notice this, but around level 10 certain mods seem to focus and cast the succubus charm ability on hunters. The player just stands their mesmerized while the mob kills them. I like to save them.

Once you get to end game and put together a large number of people to do one of the raids, there is a point in time when all the warlocks start summoning everybody. Naturally, everyone is told all the time to help them summon. Warlocks get a lot of help during this prep time, but it may surprise some people that not everybody may be ready to go. There are actually people that forgot something in their bank of Thunderbluff/Darnassus. As a Mage I think it is very important to be helpful when everyone is trying to get ready for the raid so I will always remember to have a portal open to that spot for you. I also understand that no one wants to walk around any more than they have to. So for their convenience I put the portal down right next to the warlocks so you don’t have to walk very far.

All right there is no sugar coating this last one. On my warlock I will get two of my friends and go to the stranglethorn arena. We will whisper random people between 13 and 54 then ask them if they want a carry through some dungeon that’s their level. We will summon them, kick them out of group and then kill them. There is another variation of this in outlands where you summon them to one of the floating islands off the side of the map and then leave them.

Ya’ll do you, but i never understood the trolling behavior. Getting off on being a nuisance to others is pitiful and pathetic.

Like exact way in which you’re not doing at this exact moment. Yeah, sure. :+1:

Wait, so if you pull out a non-combat pet it can pick up the living bomb debuff? And then if you dismiss it it stays on the pet till the next time it’s pulled out?! Am I reading that correctly? Or do you mean the demons? Either way that is amazing!

Sounds like someone got a dose of water walking a bit too often ;D

Demons specifically (hunter pets as well) can get the living bomb debuff.

You just have to immediately dismiss them, and they’ll store the debuff for when you resummon. So basically if you ever see a warlock summoning a pet inside the auction house late night on a Tuesday, you’ve got 16 seconds or less to clear the area (10 for the pet summon spell then whatever the bomb debuff had left when it was dismissed) . The warlock summons, puts his pet on stay, then usually runs for his life.

Duel people with my priest and mind control them off iron forge cliff to their death. Same goes for boat ride too.

While incredibly childish and immature, it used to drive me nuts that so many people would treat /shout and other general channels as their personal wowhead (or at the time, thottbot) auto-search. So, anytime someone would ask “Where is <thing>?” where it’s an obvious thing from a quest, that the quest text itself even gives specific directions to, I would just respond with “in my pants”.

The “effort to results” ratio on that was surprisingly high. For one simple little quip, you’d usually get someone lighting off about how the community is horrible, someone else laughing and joining in, someone trying to give correct information, another person giving false information, and genuinely so much time being wasted arguing from the original asking person vs. them having just read the quest text or looked it up online originally. It was glorious. I’m not sure I can help myself if people start asking stupid questions like that in Classic WoW.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s some obscure quests and genuine questions to be asked. But don’t get on me about these basic quests that literally tell you the answer in the quest text, and you’re going to sit there going “ugh, reading. so beneath me. COMMUNITY, FEED ME THE ANSWER” and not expect a troll response.

Why do people enjoy being a bully? I don’t get it. Grow up.

To make people like you complain on the forums.

I loved MCing people on the boat of Booty Bay and making them jump.
Or, in TBC, when the AFK system was implemented in the BGs; you would say “Type /afk report #NAME#” and you would see 10-15 people in AV getting log off because they tried to report someone jumping in the cave.

Good times.

People like me? So decent people who do not find enjoyment in being a jerk to others for enjoyment?

It’s kind of lame and not vanilla, but before queueing for dungeons, so I think it’ll count:

My first characters were warrior and paladin and people tended to whisper me if I’m a tank.

My favourite answers were:

  • No, I’m a paladin.
  • What’s a tank?
  • I have a shield in my bag, will that do?

There were short (as in none) and long conversations after that.

Remember when people would link Items and Abilities for a laugh?

“I gave your mom my [Crude Iron Mace] last night!” laughter ensues

Be grown up in a game playable by 12 year olds? Eh, no thanks :smirk:

It isn’t being a jerk. It is just a bit of a practical joke. It’s nothing personal…and honestly pranks like this are far less rude or mean than griefing or ganking relentlessly…which FAR more people do. I honestly was never even upset if something like that happened to me, usually I would just sit there amazed that something like that could be done.
