Hello everyone! I was wondering simply what is your favorite non-playable race? Why do you like them and do you potentially rp one (maybe in disguise)? I’d love to hear what you guys have to say about it!
I love the Tol’vir… always hoped they’d end up playable.
MOGU. I alway found the Mogu to be fascinating, for all the same reasons you might find the Chinese Dynasties interesting or the Roman Empire interesting. Though they were brutal, they were brilliant, creator of culture and pioneers of technologies and magics that azeroth takes for granted today, such as roads, minted gold currency, standardized weights and measurement, written laws, the world’s first legal system and the Serpent’s Spine.
But I also sympathized with them, because I could see how far they have fallen today. Not only from the heights of their powerful empire, but from their original, true purpose granted to them by the Titans. They are like children wandering alone in the darkness without guidance, desperately searching for hope.
Now they finally have their God Ra-Den returned to them, and he died defending Azeroth. Now they have a REP FACTION! So I hope they’ll be playable one day.
The Tol’vir are awesome and I always loved the Egyptian theme with them. I remember when Cataclysm came out, Uldum was the zone I waiting for the most. It’s still an awesome zone and I’m glad that the Tol’vir are actually getting some time in the spotlight again.
Another race that I definitely enjoy and also in the spotlight this patch. The Mogu definitely have some fascinating lore behind them and I’m glad they’re back. I think the one thing holding them back is the lack of female Mogu (according to the Twin Consorts information), though in the recent patch, there seems to be more present. Hopefully that is a good sign!
Tuskarr! I would roll a tuskarr hunter so fast if they became playable!!
Also quillboar are very cool visually now that they have an update
Indeed, these were specifically created by Lei Shen and empowered to serve and guard him, and they are a direct reflection of his will rather than any broader sense of mogu culture as a whole.
That’s according to Blizzard up there. It would be more accurate to say that the Twin Consorts were the only two female Mogu crated by Lei Shen. Battle for Azeroth additionally aded several new female Mogu like General Xing, Solux and Lu’si the last Princess. They’re a viable race
-San’layn.
Note, I freakin love vampires. San’layn top pick for AR, but alas it seems like it won’t happen (at least my 2nd and 3rd were added!)
I have a few that I RP, none of them being in disguise. I don’t see a point to hide them, since they’re allowed in the city.
-Harpies
I actually have a sane one that I RP occasionally, although they are very much disguised. The last time I tried to RP a (civil mind you) Harpy, I was met with a great deal of IC and OOC harassment.
IC makes sense, but harassing whispers and toy spam are just… eugh. Nobody seemed to bother reading the TRP, either! So, onto a disguised one she went.
-Dragons
I have one, and this was after a LONG time of debating and picking what to RP and which to RP them as.
Even still, nowhere on their TRP does it say or even really hint at being a dragon. Gotta be cautious on that one.
I’m very surprised that the Tuskarr haven’t made a real appearance in a while. I know there was a situation or two in Legion, but it’s not very often that you see them. I miss them. As for Quillboar, that’d be a neat one for sure. They have models for male and female, plus the update made them look decent. If only gnolls could get one.
Get your Quilen ready. We’re off to an adventure!
San’layn are definitely an interesting one and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was more of them coming with Shadowlands, if not more lore. The future definitely holds some interesting mysteries to come.
As for harpies, I’ve see some of them around as far as rp goes, but not very often. Most definitely in disguise though as they aren’t on the most friendly terms with people.
Dragons I’ve seen a lot of though I’ve never played one myself. I do understand that to some it is a bit of a tricky one in the sense of opinions, but it’s really up to the individual as far as actually playing one. It’s all about fun in the end, right?
I’ve always loved the Furbolg; their lore is really intriguing and their involvement with the Alliance is great.
Right!
Long ago, a guildie pointed out:
“None of our characters are canon, therefore we’re all breaking the lore constantly regardless.”
So, does it really matter if somebody is RPing a non-playable race like a Harpy? Dragon? Quillboar?
In the end, not really. This is a video game, and people should just relax about it. Have fun. :3
Ogres-I RP this character as a half-ogre. Mother is a crushridge and father is an unknown Alterac human. The mog + a winterfall firewater, and I think I pull it off pretty well. I’ve been getting quite a few walk-ups in SW lately.
The Furbolg are great. I wish we still had that item that allowed you to transform as one. It was an old Ashenvale quest item before they removed the quest in Cataclysm. It’d have a lot of rp potential.
It’s how I feel for sure. Everything is a video game and it should be fun in general. If fun isn’t obtained from the game, then why play at all?
I’m sure it is pretty fun as well and I’m sure the interactions are quite interesting on occasion.
From a guard’s perspective, I’m fine with anything provided it doesn’t cause me trouble and makes some sense to being in Stormwind. Jinyu for instance are fine. But the minute people bring in Arrakkoa or Sethrak is when I get a little iffy on it. And don’t even get me started on the Horde ones x.x
I definitely think it’s a complex situation for sure since you get into a very difficult topic with multiple different viewpoints. Personally I see it in the way of what makes the situation most enjoyable for people. I can sadly see situations where OOC gets escalated and difference of opinions gets involve. Communication should be highly involved in such volatile situations and I think that if it comes down to it, it just isn’t worth the commotion if the two viewpoints collide with one another. It should all be about fun and working together to make a better experience for everyone.
Broken/Krokul, which I intend to RP with this character once the game picks back up a bit and/or find a draenei guild.
That actually sounds like a cool idea I think! I actually haven’t seen many Broken/Krokul around so it’d be very interesting to see some people doing it.
Furbolgs. Yes.
It’s definitely a matter of balancing. Usually to accommodate it we’ll tell the “rar! No Blood Elf!” person that if they commit a crime they’re permitted, but explain to the Blood Elf since they’ve been permitted by the gate guards they can’t overturn it, but causing trouble will exile them. While ICly we generally consider it a matter of kill on sight, we can’t actually kill on sight without consent. So.
All the Furbolgs. We need more of them. More of them I tell you!
It definitely is all about balance between the IC and OOC boundaries for sure. Both have to be respected in a manner that everyone is happy and I can definitely see that being a tough challenge as a guard. It’s one of the many reasons why I haven’t been a guard myself or anything along those lines. It’s not an easy job and figuring out a solution to tackle certain situations correctly is a big part of the process of it all.
