Father's Day Wish list: 10 things I'd like to see in Classic PLUS

Was just thinking today about SOD and things that we could see in Classic Plus that would make the game better:

  1. Best addons brought into the game client - the rest banned. Details, Atlasloot, Bartender, etc. - I’d take the top 10-20 addons that every uses and just incorporate them into the game. Then I’d ban everything else. Make it so that everyone has to play on the same system with the same addons.

  2. Blizzard’s own version of WCL. Give Blizzard control over how parsing works, allowing them to get rid of any kind of cheesing or otherwise toxic behavior. I would also add achievements based on competitive play. An achievement for getting a 100 parse. Or an achievement for being in the fastest speed run of a raid, for example. Or the first raid to prog to the end of a raid gets an achievement done. And then allow those players access to cool cosmetics and mounts/titles. I would NOT add the silly retail achievements like an achievement for falling 65 feet without dying. That’s nothing to be proud of. Look up the word “achievement” in the dictionary. But for the more casual player you can add things like quest completions.

  3. Even playing field for loot. Players loot counseling themselves into full bis after 2-3 raids is bad for the game. Create a loot system that allows an even playing field for more competitive parsing.

  4. More ways to make gold with professions to lock the bots out of the game. Give every player mining/skinning/herbalism for free as secondary professions so that bots farming those would be impossible. Then give every player ONE primary profession and allow those professions to be profitable things like the chitin armor kit from SOD. Engineering should be a money making profession. In other words, you pick engineering, make items, and sell them on the auction house, but everyone can use the items, even if they’re not an engineer. This will allow an even raiding environment, where everyone can use a target dummy if they want; or a grenade in PVP, and it will allow engineers to sell target dummies to all the non-engineers.

  5. War mode. The community seems very divided here. Some people REALLY hate the toxic, griefing/camping, while other feel that it’s a critical part of classic and that personal feel that Retail WOW lacks these days. So, how about a compromise? No War Mode, BUT, they put an NPC into the game that allows you, once per day, to put a buff on you that makes you untargetable by the opposing faction for an hour. Now, we can go back and forth on the details like once per day, or the one hour thing, but essentially this would be a buff that you cast on yourself on raid night, after you bought your consumes, when you want to head to raid and you don’t want to get camped outside of AQ40 and have to corpse run 5 times to get into the instance. Blizzard can play around with the details here. Maybe make it once every 48 hours and only for 30 minutes? But I think an hour, once per day is good, because it would also allow you to go use it quickly farm an popular quest for your Ashbringer etc.

  6. Bring PVP into the game in a more meaningful non-grindy way. People AFK-ing in AV right now on the anniversary realms is prime example of how not to do PVP. Instead, make it so that winning an AV gets you another “chalice fragment” that you can use for your raid set. PVP sets should grant PVP abilities, not just stamina. If you’re a hunter, the PVP 2 set bonus could make it so that Feign Death removes all CC from you. For a warrior, the PVP 2 set bonus gives them 2 cooldowns on charge, etc. etc. And these can change from phase to phase to keep PVP interesting. And you can combine them for different playstyles. This way, we separate PVP gear from PVE gear and we can balance the PVP sets to balance PVP, and you can balance the PVE gear to balance PVE. This way we don’t run into this issue where a Boomkin is mid in raid, because if you make him even slightly more powerful, he’s completely busted in PVP etc.

  7. Make one massive server that all plays together. Even if it means 20 layers. I want to play with people in Europe and I want to be able to raid at 7 in the morning if that’s what my schedule demands.

  8. Activate summoning stones. Just have it be like a closet. Once 2 people get there, they can summon the rest.

  9. Player Identity. If Classic Plus is an Alt-friendly version of WoW like SOD was, I want to be able to see who people are. Pick a Classic Plus name for yourself, and that’s your name on all your toons. If your name is “X” then that appears above every single one of your toons. Create a mail system so that you know which of “X’s” toons you are mailing the items to. But the massive amount of alts added distance between players in SOD, because I’ve literally been in dungeons with guildies of mine, and didn’t know it until after the run because neither of us were playing on a toon that we recognized each other’s names until after.

  10. Create reasons to play your main after you’re full BiS. At the end of SOD I realized that I had become just one giant raid logging monkey. SE on my main, then log over Naxx on this alt, then back to the main and do Naxx, then over the other alt SE and Naxx. By the end I realized I literally just wasn’t playing my main anymore. Only raiding. PVP events and achievements mentioned earlier would help a lot, but it would be cool to get something from raiding a Scarlet Enclave even after my main is full BiS.

Thanks for reading! Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad gamers out there!

  1. they started making certain add-ons base for retail but they would never ban the rest ever
  2. The WCL team does a pretty good job to stop most of the cheesing already the achievement part is interesting but dont think it would ever happen even if blizz took control of WCL
  3. Thats why i generally avoid guilds that do LC so many times its favors certain people the times its not though its a good loot system
  4. Not many people take gathering profs infact most people rely on bots for cheaper mats to level non gathering profs for cheaper
  5. Yeah even if they just do 2 PvP and 2 PvE servers id be happy sucks when they put 5+ in of each and you have to hope you picked the realm that doesnt die after the initial hype dies
  6. Dont pvp so cant comment there
  7. unsure if that could work be great if it did but again would it be PvP or PvE sadly EU and US are completly seperate and dont see that changing(could be wrong)
  8. Yes if summon stones dont work in classic+ it would be dumb
  9. im lazy with my names ill have my mains name so Ullite then just Ullitewarr as an example
  10. Make the real system better for Classic+ once a phase is done add more items to the real vendor from the previous raid but in a way that doesnt kill the raid

good post and yes happy fathers day

The idea to ban addons is bad for the player base and only serves to appease people who either haven’t thought it through or Blizzard themselves in their push to make the game fully available on mobile platforms. No thanks. Never.

No achievements, but having a Blizzard run tool to look over the data while banning WCL from the API would be great, as rankings should not be part of the concept. They only breed toxic competition.

Removing social skills from the game is bizarre, and again, rank chasing is toxic competition and has no place in the genre.

This would do nothing to alter bot behavior.

This is particularly nonsensical for a few reasons. “Griefing/camping” aren’t objectively definable terms and both are absolutely acceptable methods of PVPing. You aren’t entitled to have an ideal playing experience in a PVP game. It completely nullifies the purpose of the game mode.

Also, you can farm gold in any other means if that particular material is kept from you. There is a social structure in the game for just this reason. A soy bean farmer doesn’t keep pigs, but may still want bacon so he uses the money from selling some soy beans to buy what he wants. The solution already exists.

The only not completely terrible thing suggested in your post is the idea that battlegrounds shouldn’t be gamified passed the purpose of playing that battleground. While I personally think battlegrounds were a mistake to add, they should be played for the purpose of having fun, not rewards. Therefore, the best solution would be to entirely remove material rewards from them, not add more.

Except the fact that people want PVE and PVP servers separate, so no thanks. Smaller servers are better for overall health of the game. Stop catering to the Twitch stream masses that have to FOMO everything. Quality over quantity.

I mean, I guess whatever. I’m not for it because travel time is important. I think the warlock stones in SoD were a mistake, but it’s not the worst thing.

Uh, this is entirely unnecessary. No real point in explaining why, it serves no real purpose. The solution already exists. Communicate.

The reason to play is that you enjoy playing. If you only play video games to chase carrots, you should rethink what you’re doing. Manage your own expectations.

Your post honestly made me laugh. Your, “the way I see things is the only way and every other view point needs to not only be rejected, but ridiculed” is such a typical attitude that I see on SOD lately that I almost feel like I can guess which guild you are/were in.

Not worth engaging with your personality, though it’s fair to say I disagree with most of your views. Best wishes.

I could have been a lot more harsh, because almost your entire concept boils down to you not understanding that social skills are most important in a social game.

Yup, all the best to you.

I think to solve 5,6,3,10 can be concatenated into just making it so you can benefit from doing raids and pvp even when bis. In wrath you can buy items to sell with honor or badges. Maybe the legion artifcat things.

  1. Blizz is already working on this to an extent. Trying to make a number of addons baseline so no one feels like they need 500 WAs to complete a fight, but no reason to ban -all- addons.
  2. WCL already works towards removing cheese parses. No real need for this to be under Blizzard, as it’s a very much a community thing to decide what is and isn’t fair play. Achievement systems are nice, but making them solely for competitive stuff and -not- having more fun/collection based ones is what’s silly.
  3. There’s very little Blizzard could do to solve loot issues that they haven’t already tried, and that’s because it’s ultimate not an issue to be resolved on their end, but the players. If your loot council is corrupt, you should either speak up against it or find a different guild. If you think a GM/raid lead getting a legendary/big trinket before anyone else does is corruption, then you don’t understand the point of a loot council. Any proper LC should have a very clearly presented idea of what their basis for loot is, and in most cases it’s a combination of player skill, class/role prio, and effort put into the raid. If you just show up to raid every week, you shouldn’t expect to get big loot drops before people who organize the raid, top charts, or play tanks.
  4. Bot problem can only be solved by being tougher on bots. Push comes to shove they will simply farm raw gold/mats off of mobs. Bots will always be profitable.
  5. If you don’t want Wpvp, don’t play on a pvp server. Simple as that. Do think it’d be fun if they brought some of the warmode features such as player bounties over.
  6. Obviously PvP blew chunks in SoD. One of those growing pains where they obviously didn’t full understand certain things about classic at the start, and by the time they had a better grasp it was just too out of hand, and their team too small to put in the time to fix it. Definitely hope they do better in Classic+.
  7. Mega servers inherently work against the idea of a more social game that Classic is meant to be. And with the semi-mega server state of retail you can see that the game often can’t even handle that many people in one place anyway. Not opposed to region unlocks.
  8. Agreed. I understand those who say that traveling the world is an important part of classic, but even in classic 2019 we’ve seen that summon bots will come to be. Rather than stubbornly clinging to what hasn’t worked, we should be seeking solutions that pull people away from wanting to just get summoned. Something like doubling the speed of FPs would also help with this I think.
  9. For all kinds of reasons players should be abled to be identified by account rather than by character.
  10. World content pls

No, play a PvE server and leave PvP servers alone.

Thank you for your response. Would you change nothing about PVP server’s current format?

PvP servers are fine as they are. People can choose a PvE realm if they don’t want to be forced to PvP.

If you’re concern is that the PvE servers can become imbalanced then they can add forced balancing to those realms as well.
You can also merge the AHs of all servers and allow players to group cross server for raids/dungeons.

I see where you’re coming from. I too also do not want to go full War mode, because I do think that’s just a PVE pretending to be a PVP server. Having said that man, running up to an AQ40 entrance, and seeing like 70 alliance players who one shot you as you run up, isn’t “PVP”. Blackrock Mountain into MC and BWL was even worse. All that happens is that people try to layer hop. It slows everyone down because you can’t get warlock summons out. Again, there’s world PVP and then there’s just silliness. I really believe there’s some middle ground. Maybe my idea is a good starting point. Maybe it’s not. But I think if you’re saying that what happened on SOD’s PVP servers was “working” then you’re probably just not paying attention to what people are saying.

That literally is PvP… The hood changes in real time. Sometimes it’s the right hood and sometimes it’s the wrong hood. You fight you’re way into the raid. If you’re smart you group the raid before running in if not ya cry about layer hopping idk…

Alright. So, you like the old school, hold no punches PVP. I respect that. If it’s ok, I personally disagree. I do enjoy PVP and taking it to the alliance, especially in groups. But there were times when I was doing like 5-6 corpse runs in a row into AQ40 where it just felt like time wasting. Maybe putting neutral guards similar to Light’s Hope Chapel outside of AQ40 would have helped?

I do wonder if the problem partially is SOD’s alt-friendly nature. When you’re raiding SE/Naxx/AQ40 on like 6 toons per week, the PVP outside the instances get a lot more tiresome a lot more quickly. I do remember liking PVP a lot more in old school Classic in 2019 when I was mostly playing my main and maybe 1 more alt.

A lot of food for thought - thank you for your feedback. <3

Chatgpt vs gemini

  1. I’m neutral on that, because I only use a few basic addons like Questie and Healbot

  2. I don’t really look at logs or pay too much attention to parsing, so again, I’m neutral on that one.

  3. So basically you want GDKP back, is what I read and understood, and no.

  4. They did that in WoD with profs in the garrison, really drove the prices down and made mining/herbing almost obsolete in the AH game.

  5. War Mode? No need for that, Classic PvP should remain Classic PvP. If you want war mode, The War Within is right there waiting.

  6. Even if you bring in an alternate way to get a weekly chalice, PvP will never balanced and it’s still going to suck. Trying to win with either faction is harder than completing a raid, even SE at this point.

  7. If you make one massive server, you’re going to run into a language barrier. Not only that, but I wouldn’t want 20 layers because every time I enter a cave or go into a mob heavy zone, it’s going to keep phasing in and out and it’s going to be a nightmare. No thank you on that one.

  8. I agree with that one, summoning stones being activated would be nice and some groups won’t have a warlock.

  9. No thanks, I want to be able to name my toon something cool and unique to me, I don’t want to homogenize the process.

  10. Nothing wrong with finding something to do after you’re full BiS, raid logging can be boring, but if you want achievements and all that, MoP classic will be waiting and TWW is right there in the wings.

Happy Father’s Day to you too (belatedly)

  1. I have no idea how you got to GDKP from what I wrote? My preferred way to do loot would be that each boss in Scarlet Enclave drops, 5 Scarlet Enclave tokens. If you kill all 8 bosses you’d get 40. A piece of tier costs 10 tokens. An Ashbringer is 150 tokens. A Queensfall is 75 tokens, etc. Blizzard can mess around with the numbers to make it harder/easier to get loot, but the entire raid as a collective gets rewarded for raid completion as opposed to the biggest douchebag in the raid who assigns all the loot to himself. Gold would not even enter into the equation.

  2. You can still name your toon whatever you want. And it can be unique to you. But if you ninja something or you’re generally just a douchebag to play with, I don’t want to end up with you in another raid tomorrow because you made a new toon and named it something completely different.
