Fate of the Great Royal Sword

For those who do not know the Great Royal Sword of Stormwind is the blade of Anduin Lothar that was shattered when Orgrim Doomhammer defeated Lothar at Blackrock Spire, however we do not know what happened to the pieces of the blade.

What we know:

We know that Turalyon carried the broken sword into battle with him into Draenor and the blade he wields now kind of looks like a reforged version of the sword. However in the Blackwing Lair raid Nefarian drops a weapon called Ashkandi, Greatsword of the Brotherhood that is heavily implied to be a reforged version of Lothar’s blade, so one must ask, which blade is real?

My theroy:

My Theory is that Turalyon’s sword was forged using the hilt portion of the Great Royal Sword that he carried with him into Draenor. However sometime after the Second War, Nefairan recovered the blade portion of the sword that was broken off during the battle with Doomhammer and he used this to forge Ashkandi in order to help his own schemes, or even those of his sister Onyxia.

What are your thoughts on what happened to the blade?

We can gain the Gorehowl from Prince Malchezaar from Karazhan which Garrosh has also claimed. It’s likely not canon that we held Ashkandi.

Remember that the Burning Legion occupies all timelines though, so it’s easily possible that Malchezaar got Gorehowl from an AU.

That does explain the situation.

It has also been hinted that all AU’s are unstable and collapse within moments of creation if not stabilized with something like the hourglass. So, it would be kind of funny if the insinuation here is that Malchezaar was such a Grom fanboy that he just dipped into an AU for a moment just to pull Gorehowl out and have his collector’s toy, then left it to collapse.
