I do M+ exclusively Can someone explain to me why a lot of players say to take Fate Mirror? I ran it for several dungeons yesterday (im running 17-20s with a 2300+ io currently) and it NEVER accounts for more than 1% of someone’s damage–typically it will be consistently .6 - .7% on Details for a given character. I understand that its “free” passive damage but it’s hard to justify taking something that at best only accounts for 1.5% of the total damage done in a dungeon when I could be taking other juicier talents that will either allow me to do WAY more than 1.5% additional damage, OR jucier healing talents which is important because I mainly pug. What am I missing here?
such as?
Reactive Hide. Maybe even Overlord. But, again, that’s not the point. People have throbbing hard ons for Fate Mirror, and I don’t understand it.
Yeah I don’t think either of these amounts to the same increase as fate mirror
Take into account that it’s been nerfed to not work with breath of eons, and given a flat 25% nerf afterwards. It was a lot stronger
Reactive hide absolutely will. Overlord probably not? Inferno’s Blessing very likely would as well, especially post-August 8 nerfs.
Maybe an aoe specific thing.
it does, and you should’ve already been taking this
Overlord in a raid enviroment is absolute garbage. It uses 1 Eruption… its 1 to the first 3 targets or if 1 target… 1.
With saying that, its really fun to play with in M+, but this season we should be focusing more on up time for Prescience and that screams 2 mandatory talents.
Time skip and Interwoven Threads. This will lower your cd of Prescience to 11seconds instead of 12.
This season it is near impossible to ignore that talent due to the limited Mastery we can obtain. At 22% mastery (highest you can get outside of something insane like double Blue Lining) you will be unable to keep two ticks of your Prescience up at a time at all times. At 24% which double blue lining will get you, you can.
When we can get above 10k mastery we will start seeing numbers like 24-26% which is huge for our mastery. It will extend the duration of Prescience to 24seconds which means we can skip out on Interwoven threads 1 second reduction.
Also remember that Prescience guides your buffs in 5man and raid content. While you will rarely see 1 tank 4dps in 5mans, it is a thing, and those targets of Prescience will be the targets of your shifting sands.
Overlord and Plot of the Future in season 3 will probably be a thing, and it will probably be mandatory, but we need that 10k Mastery to even consider it. Hands down its not viable to grab both this season, and Plot out plays overlord a million times.
EDIT:
Also, while this is a skill issue remember that 22.9seconds is the rough goal of what you should be looking for in uptime for 5man content so as to make your buff something you dont need to manage… if you feel like managing it, going above it is perfectly fine. This will raise your damage but you will need to target with prescience otherwise you will have 2 dps with it and a healer or tank with it aswell, 1 of the dps will always time out which is bad for damage.

22.9 is still too long for not managing the debuff. You want 21.9 if you don’t want to manage at all.
Cast → 22.9 sec duration, second cast at 0:11,
11.9 seconds on buff.
third cast, need to delay 0.9 seconds else it goes on tank / healer.
