Guild. Guild. Guild. Trying solo won’t work out.
This youtube video pretty much covers everything that you could do to gear your toon " quick " theres really no quick way just put in the time and effort to get that you need.
If you’re solo, just do every world quest/emissary that rewards gear, as your overall ilvl goes up so does the rewards, you can be like 410+ right after getting 120, then you start getting like 430/445 stuff from them. You basically don’t even need dungeons to get to about 430~440. See this character? Just geared just with wqs, emissaries and the occasional events like timewalking/4 mythic dungeons.
Benthic and Black Empire gear help a lot, otherwise slam those assaults and try your best on your first few visions to get upgrades from the loot chest.
Buy a boost. Run m+ with friends.
Not enough information. Are you talking solo or do you have a guild that can carry you thru some mythic+ and raids?

…I can’t get into a raid to save my life this expansion…My only hope is to get my hands on that dragon from N’Zoth before I can’t anymore.

Wait for a time walking week. You’ll get decent gear (425 or so), then get into norm mythics and work your way to m+.
Watch for gear emissaries. They scale with your ilvl.
Roll a tank, or healer, and make sure you’re familiar with the dungeons you’re running.
LFR is fairly decent gear too.
Doesn’t take too long running by yourself.
You’ll never be “top notch” as solo, but you can make due enough to have fun.
Oh, knock out the quest chain for the legendary cloak ASAP too. The world boss you get to do drops 440 stuff. Make sure you bring a reroll.
Funny. We’re the same ilvl (445) and I play solo.
Yeah, I have a rogue and DK alt that I basically just play solo and they are both in the 450 range. If you do horrific visions each week you can get some pretty decent loot. Weapons will be a bit trickier but we have had several 445 weapon emissary quests already.
First of all, make sure you’re completing your weekly conquest- it’s a guaranteed 440 each week, and a weapon the first week which is good.
Start out by finish all available world quests with gear rewards while queing up normal dungeons. Finish your emissaries ASAP since you’ll need the echo’s of Nyalotha for essences.
After you’re at normal dungeon ilevel, head to Najatar. the opening quest will net you a sweet 370 wep. When you get the quest for Benthic armor upgrading, just grab some 385’s instead of upgrading the piece and go start queing heroic dungeons until you’ve geared yourself out in HC dungeon gear.
Once you’re up to Heroic ilevel your best sources of gear for then on will be baseline mythics and LFR. if you can’t get into mythics, just do whatever LFR is available but you’re better of in dungeons in general. You’ll also want to head to do your cloak quest from here, since the cloak is a massive boost in ilevel and you’ll get 440 bracers and a chance at some decent ilevel corrupted gear from both the assaults and the visions.
From 430 on it’s mostly just finishing weekly conquest, low M+, and emissaries, until you’re geared enough to do Normal Nyalotha and so forth.
Be a member of the inner circle of a guild, you mean. They’re not going to carry some nobody’s alt to 450.
People who are in a position to do that are already going to do it. Somebody not in that position won’t be able to make it happen.
450 is normal Ny raid pieces basically. Depending on the guild, normal Ny could just be the weekly alt run, if it isn’t heroic.
If he belongs to a guild like that that is willing to carry some nobody’s fresh 120 with ungeared alt in a raid, he probably already knows it. To join a guild at this point for the purpose of getting free carries is dishonest.
Fastest way to gear a fresh 120 without paying for carries or having friends carry you would be to use the corrupted gear tokens from 8.3 assaults and benthic gear tokens from 8.2, do the cloak quest line (I know, bleh), and then just spam run m+
Go to Naz’jatar…get the things and go up the heart to 50. Then M0 with guildies of the same gear type so they can feed you drops.
You’ll be 420 less than 3 hours after you ding, and then you do keys until you hit 450.
If you mean solo (which I have also done for my hordelet), the first thing you do is get a full set of Benthic gear and raise the heart to 50 to lift the ilvl of WQ and Emissary rewards. Do all of them that offer gear. Go to Mechagon and get your personal computation device trinket. Then go get your cloak. Stop as soon as you have the cloak. Pug M0’s until you’re at 420-ish. Pug keys until you’re at 450.
Send black empire items. Send benthic items. Do world quests for gear. Then do the cloak quest. Get coins for rerolls. Kill the world boss and roll for loot. Maybe get lucky. Then do call to arms/against overwhelming odds if you are Alliance. Then do emissary quests if they are giving 430s. Then queue for mythic dungeons.
Or do timewalking next week.

I’ve geared this but it was super smooth because I’d been doing it from the start of the expansion. It’s a very new experience gearing a mage.
