Blizzard stated in the Blizzcon Classic panel that part of the reason why they chose to work with the modern client and new engine was because the old client/engine had many bugs that could be exploited. That said, I wonder how Blizzard views some of the farming techniques used on some of the "private" realms. For instance, many classes are able to farm Dire Maul East solo with just the abilities provided in their kits. Gold farmers exploited this fact to the point that server admins nerfed drop rates of certain items off of those mobs to combat inflation and gold selling. Would Blizzard take a similar approach or leave Dire Maul East as is given that being able to farm it was a consequence of the kits provided in Vanilla? What about Hunters being able to farm DM North? Some would consider the way in which Hunters manipulate the King's pathing AI an abuse or exploit, but was something that was never fixed in the Vanilla era by the devs. Would Blizzard seek to fix it for Classic? And, if not, how would Blizzard plan to combat gold sellers that would no doubt use these and other tactics to generate excess gold in each server economy? What or where is the middle ground or compromise that would not affect normal players trying grind gold for their own personal needs?
I am sorry if there is already a similar thread in this forum. But, I have been very curious about this for a while now and would like to see this issue addressed.
activision's solution is simple:
WoW tokens.
WoW tokens.
Hunters farming tribute isn't a bug. That's just how pathing works. Classes should be able to use their kits to farm, that's one of the benefits of being a class that can farm.

Right. I never said it was a bug, I only said that some would consider it an abuse of the pathing AI/scripting at the time. Farming DM North was for the most part possible as a consequence of the hunter kit and pots available during that time period and was never addressed by the devs during that time period. It was only later in the "private" iterations that the issue was addressed by (only) some of the dev teams for those respective projects in an attempt to curtail gold farmers/sellers. So, the question remains, would Blizzard leave it the way it is and allow skilled hunters to farm DM North, or would they address it? Given that they are using the modern client and engine, I wonder if the question itself is actually irrelevant. It may well be that in the modern engine the method used to kite King Gordok would no longer be viable because the pathing AI/scripting is much more advanced. Still, it's something I'd like to know!
I personally believe it falls under the "creative use of game mechanics" category and should remain in.
I don't think anything they do is going to stop gold sellers unless the guys from nostralius teach Blizz a thing or two. People could still farm DM east, scorpions beginning of DM north, Maura, BRD if they don't buff nets and nerf clear cast from mages. Tribute runs are the best way but there are other options to gold farmers that don't use scripting abuse. I would be surprised if they changed it. I think it's fun that certain classes can do stuff like that and if they want it to be as close to vanilla as possible they cant really take it out.

I also intend to make a hunter :P

I agree, but I feel like they might argue that some of these things were a consequence of the limitations set upon them by the technology available at the time. Honestly, I hope to be able to farm for my own personal needs. But, depending on the nerfs that could be handed down, I have yet to choose the class for the job...
Well creative use of mechanics should always be in the game.
Blizzard may change stuff with out telling us, they are shady.
Middle ground would be them banning people who bot and buy gold or sell gold.
People who use cheats like that player who solo'd ulduar when it first came out in wrath.
In pvp you manipulate players your fighting in pve you solve solutions to a formula ai paths this direction I go this direction.
Though its understandable if they are glitching through walls to get to the end boss.

The same applies to both the 8 and 16 debuff limits but those are staying rather than being messed with. I expect we'll see the older script.
