If I get the staff on a non-Druid toon, will I still be able to transmog the fire cat in SL?
I believe so.
I don’t know for sure, but I would bet that it’s only based on if you have it unlocked for transmog. I mean, if you want to be sure, keep trying for it on your Druid, but I don’t think you have to have the actual staff in your bags to use the form at the barbershop.
Pretty sure the staff doesnt give the flame cat anymore. Its why we got the Druid toy that lets you turn into it for an hour.
Edit: I miss read the topic since TC is talking about SL in the non SL part of the forums…
In Shadowlands if you collect the staff as an appearance you unlock the flame cat appearance in the barber shop.
Since in SL Druids can now customize their shapeshifts separately from their character and without artifacts.
Lots of confusion on this. I been wanting to get this look for my Druid but not sure is it staff or toy and do I need to get it on Druid. Anyone know for sure?
Really? Doesn’t that render the toy from FLs completely useless then?
Not likely. It’s an on-use effect. It’s not an actual appearance swap for Druids. It’s just a skin like a toy, but instead tied to the weapon.
Your best bet is to just get the seed pouch.
It’s the same thing for the legendary staff. My mage has it, and can use the on-use effect of turning into a dragon mount. When my Warlock goes to the transmog page, he can use the appearance, but he can’t use the on-use effect, because he doesn’t own the staff.
The mage has to equip the staff in order to transform. So I have to use a macro to equip and use the staff, then switch back to my primary weapon.
Transmogging appearances doesn’t unlock the on-use effect. They just unlock the appearance of the physical weapon.
If you want to be a flame kitty all the time, yea it does.
But I guess it still has use for anyone who only wants to be a flame cat sometimes and not all the time.
This is the correct answer.
The toy will still have its current effect, where if you use it it changes whatever your current cat form looks like. The staff just unlocks it permanently as a barber shop customization.
That makes sense. I didn’t think about it that way.
You must have the staff in the possession of every druid you want to use the barbershop flamekitty appearance change on. That means that for players like me who farmed the toy on many druids for years hundreds of times, and never saved the staff because there was no indication on the description that it still had the proc, we have to farm the raid again hundreds of times, on every druid we want to use the appearance on.
Basically they designed it this way knowing that next to no druids have kept the staff, and almost all would have to regrind multiple to many times in order to use the barbershop for that.

I have multiple druids on PTR, and only 1 has the staff in inventory and they are all able to use the flame cat option in the barbershop. /shrug
The gate-keeping on the SL forums whilst understandable is still entirely frustrating.
Well then, it’s good that they changed that. On the druid forum over and over again we were told what I related. That every druid needed to have the staff in their possession, despite the fact that information on that proc has not been on the item since I started farming for the toy in wod.
What I was told specifically was, “It sucks to be you.”
It’s very possible that the issues people were having were due to how the PTR/Beta handle transmogs on character copies. Transferring a character doesn’t always transfer tranmogrifications correctly, and you can even lose transmogs (and mounts and toys) between logins. (It’s especially annoying to me on Beta to have to recopy the account data several times to make sure I still have a hearthstone toy and my mounts). It’s a PTR/Beta server only thing, though, (has been ever since the introduced those things) and won’t be a problem on Live servers.
Considering that it only worked on night elves when it first became available in the beta, I suspect that implementation has taken place quietly in stages.
That’s fair, too. I haven’t really kept up with it, heh.
It’s WoW General Discussion, dude. LOL
In SL it is.
So… What if I have the toy? Do I get the appearance too? I looted an item that allows my character to change their appearance to the said appearance swap.
Or is it only for those who have the staff?
