I’m sure there are plenty of us playing who don’t care about the faction divide and can still enjoy the game.
I do agree they did this to themselves though.

honestly there isn’t much of a reason to play the game without faction rivalry, outside of the bemoaning complaints of tourist andies who’ll cry about why this game isn’t like every other |LESS SUCCESSFUL| game

Of course he won’t. As long as he has fast queue times and dominate all PvP servers who cares about the other faction.
It’s an RPG. Many people care about faction pride. And… I would even say that’s a good thing.

And still, be the most successful subscription MMORPG? Yup, pretty horrible I guess. Especially considering that virtually all the WoW Killers are either dead or had to go F2P
