It might very well be a % of the people in the channel for all we know. If there are 30 people in a channel and 10 people report something that transpires in that channel, it may very well be enough of a threshold for blizzard.

I had a post flagged for review a couple weeks ago. I was still able to post. Posts are flagged, a CS employee reviews them. You don’t get squelched when being flagged on the forums. They’re not the same system, even the punishments are different.

I don’t believe that because the Post in Question that Missuspowpow (using as an example, this is not an invitation to talk to me) was spewing misinformation about, I was unable to post on the forums. I sent in my request for an appeal, and it was appealed. Are you telling me, a GM reviewed it, punished me, reviewed it, again and removed my punishment?

Again, either way, IDC what type of punishment it is, I don’t want it automated. Period.

There’s a very simple solution to this. Just don’t break the rules, don’t spam, don’t troll. Do exactly what thousands of us on these forums and millions in game are doing and not getting silenced.

At some point, when this keeps happening to you, you have to look at the common element in every situation.

A slew of reports from what I can tell triggers a temporary 24 hour hide of the post (which can be viewed if the viewer decides to), as is often seen in the OP of troll threads. NOT a removal of the post or a forum vacation. The latter appears to be GM controlled.

It’s just a message telling me I lost my Forum rights under the guise of “harassment”, showed the post in question and told me if I would like to contest it, to go to X link, which I did, like I always do, every time it happens. It was from “Blizzard Entertainment”. Doesn’t mean it’s not automated

Why do you act like it’s one person silencing you, you’re clearly annoying enough that a large chunk of your server doesn’t want to hear you.

Annoying does not warrant preventing another player being able to play the game; this is why we have the ability to IGNORE people in game.

Well actually no it’s like you getting informed that the community doesn’t want to hear whatever it was you had to say and used a built in and sanctioned system to let you know that.

We don’t know how many people it takes to trigger a squelch, let alone if it requires a “large chunk” of the server or “the community”.

If it only takes 10 people submitting reports to trigger a squelch, how does 10 people equate to a “large chunk” of the server or “the community”?

Note, I am not saying that I know it only takes 10 people to trigger a squelch. I am using that number as an example.

It takes however many people blizzard has deemed sufficient for someone to be considered squelch worthy.

That doesn’t even come close to indicating that a squelch means that “the community doesn’t want to hear” the squelched player.

YOU claim that a squelch is a player “getting informed that the community doesn’t want to hear” whatever it was that person had to say.

Well now that depends on how many people are listening. Should it be based on a percent of how many people actually saw whatever comment it was? Sure I wouldn’t mind that.

“The community” is not just limited to the people “listening”, though.

If there are 1000 people logged into the game, how does 10 people represent a “large chuck of the server” or “the community”, let alone the community as a whole?

IMO, if there absolutely must be a player imposed punishment system in place, that player imposed punishment should require no less than 100 reports from different accounts be being triggered. This will ensure that a significant number of players were negatively impacted and chose to submit reports and also make it more difficult to abuse the system.

I also believe that anyone submitting a report should be held accountable for their actions.

If the squelch is upheld, there was an actual violation.

If there was no violation and the squelch is overturned, however, EVERY player that submitted a report and contributed to that squelch should be punished, IMO.

I leveled a character 1-60 a week or two ago and I can count the number of times I saw someone say anything out in the world in chat on one hand. Is that what these people want in Classic?

Well, I screenshotted mine, and I’m not seeing a Screenshot, from you. We have no Blue Post confirmation. Until then, we can agree to disagree.
