Warcraft was the first video game story I felt the need to dive deeper into, i started in vanilla (like last 2 weeks before prepatch lawl) I played had fun then i saw black temple trailer. wha…whos that, that demon guy, that snake lady and elf? elves aren’t evil wtf. I talked to a friend in school about it. they tell me of WC3, there is WC before WoW? I install W3, fell in love instantly.
Years pass, MoP ends, hate where they took garrosh but you know at least he’s going to be brought to justice in a less barbaric way…what wait…time travel…wrathion…ooookaaaayyy…
oh cool orgrim, bladefist, kilrogg, they’re all gonna be back…oh he died first raid oh and he’s just fel evil green…surely gul’dan won’t matter he already had his story in…oh…okay that’s…fine
oh dang ILLIDAN…HE’S BACK…oh…he doesn’t meet his brother…or Tyrande…oh…but they’re his oldest ties and friends/family…oh he’ll just lead us into an abbys…okay…
Okay i’m done with this not going to detail this garbage through rest of legion and bfa what really peeves me is I’m NF during the play they make us put on they ignore everything good in wow and start us in fricking legion as if nothing we’ve done before then mattered, when imo that’s when story took nose dive. it has to be new team right that thinks everything they write is better?
what else could be the excuse of this quality dip and ignoring of old content

The writing quality tanked when Metzen left. But even if he was still here, an MMO is a much more difficult medium to tell a story that started in a RTS game through. Not to mention making the player character a main focus creates a lot of issues as well. I think making the player character a super hero is what hurt it the most.

I love Metzen, but I think he was the driving force behind WoD’s story, and that was dumb. Seems like MoP was Dave Kosak’s idea and that was pretty good, but then he got shipped off to Hearthstone and has now left the company.
Steve Danuser I don’t trust with the story at all, from what I’ve seen in BfA and SL. So yeah, rather worried about where it’s going. SL is a mess for the lore.

I just stopped caring when they decided to go all full cosmic scale. I really just genuinely don’t care about the story anymore. I think they’re trying to act like they want to be highbrow and ask philosophical questions (At least I think that’s what the arc with Sylvanas seems like they’re going with). But I just want to be a character going on an adventure.

Yeah the story/lore has turned to absolute **** after (or… even during) MoP. I mean… we now have shadowlands lmfao
The story had strong ties to the original RTS through Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King. After that, they had to bring in the writers and manufacturer conflict.

How can you tell?
Thrall’s wedding flashbacks intensify.
“We finally concluded Arthas’ story in a satisfying manner. What do we do now?”
“Uhhh, A big dragon! And it destroys Stormwind and then Thrall gets married and Ragnaros comes ba…”

While I did like Legion I was a tad annoyed at this.
Liam O Brian’s voice acting has me bawling like a baby when Illidan leaves a message for them and their reaction to it infuriated me so much. I was just “Okay I don’t usually want characters to die but HOLY CRAP”

At some point games are like movies. First one or so are great but by the time you get to …8, 9, 10… that shark that got jumped is in the retirement home…hic!
The writing’s always been bad, it’s just that it used to be a fun kind of bad instead of nonsensical tedium.

Somewhere a shark is on a boat jumping another shark

I found bfa to be worst of all and its not even mentioned. Thats how poorly done its been after lich king. You might even say the gameplay and story died with him.

If you killed Argus you are given a shard which you then deliver to Tyrande and Malfurion which contain Illidan’s final message to them. He thanks his brother for everything and says he has what it takes to lead, and does the same with Tyrande.
WHAT? You don’t like interdimensional or alternate timeline realities, space ships and hyperdrive travel in your medieval fantasy story?!?!?!

Cataclysm was the beginning of the end. After fighting the Lich King they floundered looking for ideas and they tore apart the entire game world to do it.

Yeah I feel like they added that because they saw how many people were complaining Illidan never actually talked to them. It was a bad cop out
This is exactly when I lost interest in the story.
I had wrongfully thought BFA was going to go back to the basics with a traditional Horde vs Alliance story, which they did to a degree, but them ruined it w/ old gods and corruptions and all that other nonsense.
