Faerin calling Anduin "cousin" in their Hearthstone interaction

Weird misunderstanding by the Hearthstone team or meant to be interpreted as a less familial term?

Cousin in the US dub of Sailor Moon way?

Broke: hearthstone is wrong

Bespoke: the longstanding fan-wish that either the Wrynn or Ellerian families are cadet branches of the Lothar family is being made canon and the Hearthstone team accidentally leaked internal WoW documents on the matter

How wonderful.

Though, I can’t tell if this will discourage people from still pairing the two up as some blossoming romance now that they may be cousins.

I’m of the opinion there isn’t any romantic chemistry between them.

blizzard does like to chase trends that are out of date, and all i can think of is jon snow and danerys

that said it could just be since anduin said he’s named for lothar, and faerin is a lothar, it’s simply a kind of generic ‘hey we’re a little connected’ label

The downside is that means that the Tess/Anduin agenda that CERTAIN DEVS keep pushing because their best friend is the Tess/Anduin shipper (and is why Tess isn’t a worgen) can continue

In all likliehood it was meant as a term of endearment.

Same way that Thrall refers to Gromm as ‘brother’ yet they aren’t literal siblings, just two close friends of a shared heritage.

Since Faerin and Anduin have a more distant shared heritage (the Arathi and Stormwind coming from the same distant Empire) the term ‘cousin’ was probably more fitting. Likely a way of showing that they are close yet come from different backgrounds, people use it in real life all the time.

Wait really? are you able to shed some light on this?

At this point Anduin is basically becoming every major Alliance character’s family.

He has made Jaina his “Aunt”(so yeah this makes me think Faerin calling him cousin is a term of endearment rather then anything else considering their line to the Stromic families)
He has made himself the adopted son/mentor son of 3 of the Alliance faction leaders, Genn, Velen and Magni, and by extension that makes Moira almost like a sister to him.
Pretty sure Vereesa once thought of her boys when Anduin was around for the Warcrimes book.
And even Tyrande and Malfurion felt almost like adoptives parent when Varian died in wanting to help guide Anduin.

Really all he needs is to make Gelbin his fun uncle, He is the living proof the Alliance is as much a “family” as the Horde.

I don’t see how they could literally be cousins. They’re many, many generations removed from each other.

Who knows, maybe they will make Anduins grandmother (Taria Wrynn) Anduin Lothars sister in the game continuity like she is in the movie continuity. Although I suspect this is what you are referring to.

But I agree with other posters, it is probably an act of endearment and not because they are actually related (even distantly).

If I remember correctly Anduin Lothar’s sister in the movie was the wife of Varian Wrynn’s father. I remember Anduin mentioning that to his son. So Tiffin Lothar was her name in the Warcraft movie making Anduin Wrynn the nephew of Anduin Lothar and thus at least in the movies indirectly related to the Lothars of the Arathi Empire.

Yeah but that’s movie canon

I would rather the Ellerians be a Lothar cadet branch

God forbid someone is important by virtue of the matrilineal lineage :skull:

It would be awesome, but I feel like maybe they’ll simplify the story to cut the middleman history and cadet branches of family lines is normal historically etc, but I think with WoW half the people don’t listen or read the quest lines.

it’s really weird that it feels like they’re doing absolutely everything to make this ship happen except, like. having anduin and tess interact on screen.

it’s as though they’re trying to bring about this outcome not by making it happen, but by pruning away every possible bit of lore that could challenge it

though tbh i’m in general very uninterested in the ‘anduin’s girlfriend sweepstakes’ that has been running for a while and has been one of our main sources of ‘nothing female characters that are never mentioned again after their debut’, cough cough fordragon

Anduin is getting long in the tooth for being 25 years old and not married with kids. Varian was around his age and was 40s when he died. I think Anduin needs to propagate his family line, to maintain the monarchy. He needs to have a son of his own since as a man well into his 20s he should have already produced at least one heir. Same with Tess Greymane who’s pushing 30 and for her she’s becoming too old by classic human standards. Not modern, but ye olde ways.

I maintain Anduin should be gay, the Court of Nobles should be homophobic, and this should cause a crisis of succession and Alliance civil war

Yeah if Anduin turns out to be gay… yeah… I’m gay in real life and I don’t want that. More so, because of the :poop: storm that would arise. The Alliance should force him to marry Tess Greymane or Taelia Fordragon or Faerin Lothar. One of these three girls would be excellent wives to the king of Stormwind, and if he married Tess Greymane he would be king to both Gilneas and Stormwind formally merging the two nations in their progeny. Similarly to Thaurissan II being the heir to Dark Iron and Bronzebeard thrones.

Why aren’t such writers fired, or at least their plans stopped by other writers?
Instead, Blizzard often targets the wrong people. I’d love to see Tess as a Worgen!

Personally, I don’t care whether Anduin is attracted to women or men. As long as it’s well-written, it’s a win-win situation for all of us.

Perhaps it would be a better choice if Anduin were gay instead of straight. I think Blizzard could do more with that.
But if Blizzard really wants Tess to be Anduin’s wife, wouldn’t it be more interesting if Tess were a worgen?
