I think some people would appreciate faction/server transfers prior to tbc if servers are progressive. The fist issue that people might be scared of is faction imbalance. This can be alleviated by only allowing faction transfer to a diff server if doing so wouldn’t make the server worse than 60/40 or so. For instance I put a lot of effort into my horde preist but I really like the alliance community on a different server that I play on and want to stay with my guild over there but want to main my preist. Transferring from horde on Herod to alliance on Deviet delight would be a dream for me. As for complications with gear and mounts I think it can be rectified somewhat easily, such as trading out HW gear for GM gear, transferring org rep to sw rep etc. I don’t know if blizzard has the technology to accomplish this but it would help faction balancing if it was regulated based on current server pops and I would love to see it. Otherwise I may have to relevel a preist on my alliance server and I already have rank 14 and naxx gear on my horde priest
Blizzard has been doing faction transfers in retail for years. They can do it. Who knows if they will. I have a 60 troll priest i want to change to alliance.
It’s not the Faction Imbalance that’s the problem. It’s the way that Classic is played. What I mean by that is Paladins are exclusive to the Alliance, while the Shaman Class is exclusive to the Horde. Prior to BC, there’s no real way to make a Horde Pally nor Alliance Shaman. IK some (not all) people like to say “just swap Pallies to Shamans, and Shamans to Pallies”, when they’re two completely different Classes.
They use completely different Gear, Abilities, Faction Bound, etc. It’s much more complicated than a simple Faction Switch. Now, Server Transfers ARE a thing, in Classic. You just can’t go from a PvE Server to a PvP one.
I think turning a shaman into a pally is impossible, but transferring your horde shaman into an alliance server with a race change to match could be a possibility. And I can’t transfer because you can’t have horde and alliance on the same server unless blizzard set up a method of account transferring
Now, you’re asking for a Race Change. That’s completely different from a Faction Change. Faction Change refers to transferring from Alliance to Horde or Horde to Alliance. Race Change refers to swapping to a Race of the same Faction.
Oh, right, that’s a PvP Server thing. On PvP Servers, you cannot have Alliance nor Horde sharing the same Server List. However, this does NOT apply to PvE Servers. On PvE Servers, Alliance and Horde can be on the Server, on the same account. IK this because I play on PvE Servers and play both Factions ![]()
Yeah I mean I feel as though race change and faction change go hand in hand, cant have faction change w/o race change. My undead priest as alliance would definitely stick out like a thumb
Yeah, I would really like to bring my horde shaman to DD from Grob but I can’t because I was stupid and made it on the same account.
I haven’t utilize the Standard Game’s Race Change, in awhile. I think it doesn’t really matter, anymore because no Class is restricted to a Faction. The last time I used Race Change, I was only able to change the Race of my Character (who was Alliance) to any Race (still on Alliance) to be a Race capable of being that Class. Ironically, I’ve Race Changed my Priest TWICE. She was originally Nelf, then I made her Draenei and finally made her a Worgen. I couldn’t make her a Horde Priest through the Race Change service, though. Had to use the Faction Change Service.
Now that’s what I call an identity crisis ![]()
LOL right? ![]()
This next portion is not directed towards you, Vorena, BTW. I’m just utilizing this next post of mine to tell the OP something.
For the purpose of this Discussion, I think it’s important to distinguish the differences between a Faction Change and a Race Change, so we know what we’re talking about. While it is still “technically” a “Race Change” to be a Nelf Priest instead of an Undead Priest, it disguises the fact that the Priest swapped Factions. If the purpose is to swap from Horde to Alliance or Alliance to Horde, it is a Faction Change. To Race Change is to stay within the bounds of your Factioin (Alliance or Horde). Instead of being an Undead Priest, you may want to be a Troll Priest. It’s a Race Change because you didn’t swap Factions.
You absolutely can have race change without faction change lol.
Back to the OP’s point, I hope he gets what he wants because I would really like him to shadow priest for us in TBC!
My point still remains that Faction Change isn’t really possible due to the Pally and Shaman Faction restrictions. Race Change (without Faction Changing) is a possibility. I’m still not for it, though, for RP reasons ![]()
I mean they are they’d just have to restrict paladins and shaman from changing.
If it weren’t for the fact that the person asking is a friend of mine I probably would have voiced opposition to it too
That is true but to be fair to both Factions, it’s best not to swap Factions. Race Change (without Faction Swapping) is a bit more fair game. Two Races of Alliance can be Pallies, and three Races of Horde can be Shamans. That way it’s a bit more fair for everyone. I’m still against it, though ![]()
I wouldn’t say I “argue” with my own friends, but the Forums isn’t the only place I have intellectual discussions with ![]()
Faction Change HUGE NO! Race Change, soft no ![]()
They do it on retail so why not here.
