Factions fighting for territory?

Will Blizzard ever try to create factions that physically fight for and capture territory?

Factions are a huge part of WoW, and everything has been rather static over the years.

No way. The game mechanics don’t allow for something like that to work.

And story wise the faction conflict is pointless neither side can survive the world ending threats alone.

And mechanically neither faction can ever destroy the other.

Wows faction bs is only good smsll off camera conflicts and a cold war.

There were territory changes in Cata. It took so much work, endgame suffered greatly.

That’s probably why they’re not in a hurry to make the game reflect what’s happened in books and such, because there have definitely been territories exchanged. We just don’t get to see them.

Waaaay back when, contested territories were supposed to change ownership like wintergrasp on pvp servers.

This never made it live.

Pretty sure the Horde is a world ending threat to the Alliance, but maybe I’m just ‘biased’ cause of Teldrassil, Theramore and every other atrocity the Horde has committed and gotten away with. The sooner the devs actually write a story like that the better it will be for everyone. I don’t want to hold hands with your faction, I want to wipe them off the face of Azeroth.

I would prefer factions not exist at all. I would also prefer player characters to have the choice to be nuetral.

Yes horde have constantly been the aggressors. And horde has more bodies on it’s hands.

But both sides are constantly forced to work together against some greater threat.

Thrall should never have made a faction resemmbling the orcish horde. It should have been a council to begin with.

But blizz didn’t write things well. Game mechanics don’t allow punishments to factions though.

The faction conflict is just a pointless story arc in an mmo.

There’s always going to be factions, can’t escape it.

Even with every player on the same team, there would be nothing to do if a ‘faction’ wasn’t present to cause trouble.

The Lich King and his followers.

The Burning Legion

The Scarlet Crusade

If the game ever becomes advanced enough, even computer controlled ‘factions’ could present more dynamic gameplay.

The only game that I can remember that had a successful run with territories switching between two factions due to fighting over what zone / section was City of Heroes / Villains; and even then, they discontinued it like a year or two before “Goin rogue” was released due to it being to much hassle.

That was the case until BfA.

well no kidding. BUt they’ve written themselves into a corner now. There is no going back. The horde has killed more Alliance members than the scourge, legion, and old gods combined. They need to be eliminated as a threat, just like the others.

Nah, you right. We’re bad *** and qualify as “world ending threat”.

Alliance on the other hand… particularly Tyrande… qualify as “nagging” or “obnoxious” but can be batted away like a fly.

no, just awful, irredeemable filth whom should be disinfected from Azeroth like the plaque of pathogenic parasites you are.

Hey, you called us a “world ending threat”

I’d say you’re selling us short though. We’ve already ended one world and now we’re on world #2 so I think we’re pushing the “intergalactic threat” level.

Interplanetary is the word you mean. And yes, you are. And yet you are written as ‘misunderstood savages’ which is adorable.

I’m with you on that. Doomhammer’s Horde > Thrall’s Horde all day every day. :muscle::muscle::muscle:

That’s why, to be fair, I suggested that both factions should be shattered into different sub-factions; no more Alliance or Horde. I agree that Thrall created a new Horde far too similar to the old, very Evil Horde: Should have been run by a council and Should have never been called ‘the Horde’ (the name itself screams aggressive Evilness) And the Alliance was created in response to the threat of the new Horde, just as the Old Alliance was created. Both organizations have outlived their usefulness. Something new is needed.

They tried this back in Vanilla and BC with world PVP objectives. Wrath and Cata saw specific zones - Wintergrasp and Tol Barad - that could change hands.

They stopped trying to make it a thing after Cata, since it was just a headache, especially on servers with severe faction imbalances.

With the current imbalance in PvP interest, the servers would be nothing but Horde lands and the Alliance would just mass transfer to the few Alliance dominated ones. I use to play a game called Aion where factions fought over control of lands, castles and instances. But due to NCSoft doing a horrible job with faction balance it got to the point were one faction had twice the population as the other and constantly dominated PvP engagements. They actually sent GMs on servers to help the under populated faction win some keeps and later had a add a scaling buff so they could compete when out numbered.

HMM
It’s ALMOST Like the factions aren’t a huge part of WoW.

They’re literally just an arbitrary gameplay barrier, considering all the Endgame content is cooperative PvE anyways.

Nzoth, azshara and azeroth dying.

Plus void lords all threats we have to deal with as a combined force. It being bfa is irrelavant.

I always wished we could do Something like that like take over arathi as horde or alliance. Would be cool though I don’t know how possible it is. They’d have to limit to certain territories month to month or whatever. Cool idea though!
